Well, I had my Niece and Nephew over about a week or so ago to bake Christmas cookies and my Niece was so nice to bring me a lovely case of the flu which has turned into a great case of pneumonia. I have been choking, coughing and wheezing ever since. Finally Christmas night I went to the ER where I was told that I have sleep apnea and acid reflux (!) The doctor on staff gave me scripts for meds I didn't even need, the diagnosis was wrong and he was hateful to me but I did get one good thing...Cephelexin...a great antibiotic. This stuff is finally breaking up and trying to come out...though it's slow. My Christmas sucked b/c I was sick the whole time and now my voice is mostly gone. This, by far, has been the worst Christmas in a long time.
I know I'm grouchy...but please tell me I'm not the only one to have had a bad Christmas? Or the only one to have gotten such horrible care at the ER?
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Oh goodness it sounds like I have the same thing as you but I didn't come down with it until after Christmas dinner at my parents house. Driving home, about 30 miles, my throat started hurting, my chest and head all congested, and I down right feel like 'yuk' all over. I haven't been to the doctor as I don't have medical insurance so am self medicating with chicken noodle soup, vapor rub, and rest.
LOL advantage to being sick is I'm spending a lot of time in bed with laptop and getting some time in at myLot.

I have no idea where they get thier degree for the one that packed nose without sauve was from another country! teh packing is a hard looking stick and hard as a nail! and she put in 2 that way when I got home my nose started bleeding down my throat and I had big clobs of clots spitting them out.
I wish I knew at the time how to sue her eI would have.

Awwww, sorry you were sick this holiday season. Be careful with the pneumonia. Hope you feel better soon.
I was also sick this holiday season. Had bronchitis 5 weeks now and am still coughing. Although I feel better and am functionable I still this barking cough.
I haven't had a really bad experience at any ER that I can recall.
Happy New Year,
carolbee

I am staying inside, away from everyone, and trying to get rid of this stuff. I feel allright except for the coughing and my voice and the sore throat. My chest is loosening up and I'm not exhausted all the time.
I hope you get over yours soon too. One cougher to another cougher...bark, bark. :)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Aww--I'm so sorry you had a lousy Christmas time...I can't think of a worse time to get sick than around a major holiday, ESPECIALLY Christmas. I've never had pneumonia at Christmas time but as a kid once had the flu real bad...very high fever. Thought I was literally dying. I can't remember taking anything for it except my grandmother and mother relied on my great-grandmother's old remedies...one was to take as hot of a bath possible, dash into bed with a zillion blankets and comforters also drink piping hot tea with lemon and a shot of brandy, then try to "sweat" out the fever...ugh..not pleasant but worked
What kind of a-holes at the hospital? Did you get an x-ray while at the ER. Over at my hospital that's pretty standard procedure to give anyone and everyone an x-ray to check for any respiratory problem--if they had (and I'm guessing they didn't) then they could have found out it was pneumonia

Oh I am sorry you haven't been feeling well, I hope your doing better now..
As for bad Christmas, yep.. I have for the last 2 years, probably because I also started including Hanukkah and seeing how Christmas is a very selfish holiday, (well at least in my family it is). So I am thinking of no longer celebrating Christmas since it was never a command, my family can do what they want, but leave their crying and whining for each other, leave me out of it..

Thankfully my family tends to keep Christmas rather simple and so we don't have alot of present whining going on. Our only problem is that when we all get together there is almost always a fight started which ruins everything.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

You poor thing, what a horrible way to be treated, some doctor's bedside manner really does suck.
My poor mate has spent the whole of xmas in hospital with her partner who has just had surgery to remove a cyst from his spine...lovely. It seems that this time of year always bring some diaster.
I hope you are feeling better now!!!

I'm sorry you were sick. I was too along with several other members of my family. I had my dad with pneumonia and son in law. My grandson had bronchitis and I have a bad cough but have been putting off going to the doctor. I'm very hard headed. So far it seems to be on its way out now and breaking up. Hope so! Happy new year to you and your family!

Ah, I am so sorry to hear that you are sick. I hope that you get better soon.
Christmas day I started feeling kinda yukky, and REALLY tired. I pretty much slept it away. I went to work the next day, and came home after and pretty much went straight to bed. I woke up the next morning dizzy and weak, and called off. I called off again yesterday and broke down and went to the doctor's office. Apparently there is a virus going around, I was the 3rd person he'd just seen with the same symptoms. I got an anti-inflamatory, a new inhaler (It kicked in my asthma) and told not to go back to work until the 2nd. So much for the New Year's party we were gonna have. Yep, I get grumpy too! Told my hubby I could just drink Captain Morgan and Coke instead of the pills, and if nothing else, they'd make me pass out and I'd feel better for a bit! He said no go.
Oh well! I just feel incredibly guilty for not going to work right now.... we have a girl on vacation so we are already short handed. At least my supervisor was sympathetic and said we can't choose when to be sick. And they don't want to get sick, too!
Feel better soon!

I hope you a better now. Maybe the ER doc was having a bad day. He really missed the diagnosis. Did you even get a chest x-ray? I had pneumonia when I was in college which turned into pneumonia and pleurisy. I really wanted to die then I felt so bad. Last year we did not even have a tree. It is a little better this year but we still didnt have any money. One of my daughters and her family will be here over New Years. I will probably be climbing the walls with all the extra people in ths tiny place. Get better.

Yes, I had x-rays and according to the Dr. my lungs were clear and fine...which makes me wonder where all this crap is coming from that I'm coughing up :) I managed to get the tree up before I got sick but it came down (literly) on Christmas Day as our darling cat, Morgana, pushed it over and then pulled the ornaments off to play with. I found it was easier to put it away then try to put it back up especially since I was sick.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

awwwwwww sorry to hear your Christmas turned out like it did. Being sick on Christmas is the end of the world, I think. Can't enjoy yourself then. I used to get strep throat really bad few days b4 Christmas every friggin' year up to a few years ago. It would get so bad that I couldn't even swallow and would have to pretty much isolate myself from e1. I guess maybe I finally outgrew it or something cause I no longer get sick during the Christmas season.

I get sick every winter...it's a tradition now along with putting up the tree and buying gifts.
The year Hubby and I met, I had moved up with him till he could get transfered and I went almost all winter without getting sick and I thought the tradition was over and then right before spring I went to the Dr's for a PG test and there was a little kid in the waiting room coughing and everything and by the time we got home I was sicker than a dog.

I am sorry that you didn't have a good holiday. I was sick last year, so I know how you feel.
This year my mom had pulled something in her back, so on Christmas she was in pain. We ended up taking her to the ER on the day after Christmas, but everyone there was wonderful. We ended up being there for over 4 hours, but they did all sorts of testing on her and found nothing:(
Well, hope that you get better soon and start taking your vitamin c:)

That's horrible that you not only got so sick, but the ER doctor misdiagnosed you. At least the antibiotic seems to be working. What a crummy Christmas! In my family, someone is usually sick every year with some kind of flu around the holidays. This year, no one was sick, but Grandma and Grandpa weren't feeling good, and Grandma was especially cranky. It wasn't what I would call a bad Christmas, but it wasn't very pleasant either.

I'm sorry that you have been feeling so bad, especially around Christmas. I have been sick too. I have had the cold/flu for the past 3 weeks. I lost my voice from coughing. I do feel better now, even though I am still coughing. I hope you feel good by New Years so at least you can celebrate without feeling sick and start the New Year out right.

Oh, I'm so sorry you were sick for Christmas. I know that's horrible! I used to always be sick on Christmas when I was a kid and have spent many years on New Years in bed. I am very fortunate that I haven't been sick in the last couple years at all, let alone on the holidays! I hope you are feeling better before the new year.
I also remember one horrible experience that led me to the ER. My son was 3 months old - it was right after Christmas that year and he had an ear infection. I took him to the doctor and got some meds. A couple days later it was worse and he was having trouble breathing. Back the the doctor and he said the ear infection was getting better, it just takes time. After severe vomiting that night I took my son to the ER to find that he not only had 2 ear infections, but he also had bronchitis! We never went back to that doctor again.

I only really get sick in the winter and usually it's the same thing everytime...it starts as a cold, goes to the flu and then graduates to pnemonia. I know the exact meds to fix it since the Dr. gives me the same thing every time Cephelexin antibiotics and Promethazine cough syrup. Within 3-4 days it's all gone and I'm doing fine. Right now I have the antibiotics but am taking NyQuil for the cough.

You are not the only one who had a shittttty christmas. My friend hurt her knee and has to have surgery. She is waiting for the paperwork to see when she is scheduled. She is on a medical assistance program and there is 75 surgeries for the month of January ahead of here. She is in a lot of pain and cannot get out of her home to drive.
Now on top of that she got the stomache flu with diarrhea and vomiting. I do not know how she even prayed to the porcelain god with her knee so bad.
She had a very bad christmas also.
Now I worked in a sleep lab infract I was the supervisor of the lab. I do not know how an ER doctor can look at you and say you have sleep apnea without a sleep test.
He can presume you have sleep apnea but not diagnosis you with it. Unless he has a magic ball. We all know that ALL ER physicians have magic balls. LOL What we do not know is where they keep them there balls.

I am hoping you are feeling better by now! One year my parents had just redone their whole house. All new carpet and furniture. There where 13 grandchildren there and all of them got the flu. Not one of my mom's new carpets excaped being chrisoned by a sick child! We had them laying in beds three across with bucket on both sides! My mom never complainted....she just took care of them with us. Hope your new year starts out with you having your voice back!

I hope I get my voice back soon too LOL

Oooh poor you! Don't you just hate those caring sharing people ho just have to spread their germs around? I didn't end up visiting the hospital over Christmas but we have all been ill. Both daughters have been vomiting I had a sudden nasty cold that felt like flu only to miraculously disappear over night to be replaced by a nasty tummy bug.
Everyone had a nasty tummy bug last year too so I'm hoping it is not going to be a new family tradition. Glad you are feeling better though and hope you have a happy (and healthy) New Year.

Oh yes, I love those little gift givers...she tried going over to my Mom's the next day to give it to everyone there including my 77 year old Grandma and my Mom stopped her at the door and sent her right back home thankfully.
Mine is like a tradition. I just have to get to the point where I go to the Dr. at the first sign instead of waiting till the last second.

I'm starting to feel better and I still sound like a frog but it's trying to come back. My Mom says I sound like a raspy old man on the phone and she doesn't like to talk to me when I'm like this LOL
As soon as I get rid of the cough and get my voice back, I'm good as new and until then, I'm staying in the house, drinking hot cocoa and taking meds. LOL
