Get rid of roaches the green way

I found a site on environmental friendly products and in looking around, I found a couple of interesting ways to control roaches. One is to plant catnip in your garden. Roaches hate catnip and stay away! I think catnip would make a great addition all around the edge of the house! LOL We had problems for the 1st time last year with those big outside water bug roaches coming in! Grossed me out! Also, using a spray mixture of 1 ounce each of tea-tree oil, rosemary oil and citronella oil. Check it out. http://www.greenhome.com/info/articles/pest_control/79/

interesting, we also get those water bugs here. *shiver* I wonder what effect the cat nip would have on the bobcats, if any. I am not sure I would be willing to find out, hehe. the other I might give a try and it sounds like it would be affective. I've heard of using borax because it creates a gas in the bugs and they can not relieve the pressure so they explode... I could never get past the idea of exploded roaches here and there. yick.

Thankfully I've never had a roach problem in my home. But good information to pass on to others and also to remember. Anything that we can use that is natural is the best way to go!

Wow, that is great, it is just up my alley. I love the smell of those oils, and my kitties would really enjoy the catnip. It makes me think of spring.

well, I don't think catnip has a chance with me - and not because of the cats - because I've got a black thumb how about a green way to get rid of them IN the house? I use boric acid, but still have roachs

this is an awsome tip! thank you! I have a baby at home and am always hesitant to use anything that can be harmful to him. He likes to put everything in his mouth and i'm afraid to use poisions that he might get a hold of. I think most tips like this should be posted. Thank you so much!

We do not have cockroaches up here, it is too cold in winter, but that catnip would come in handy to attract cats. Then they can get rid of the mice. There is a feral cat that is always getting in our yard, and we would like her around more often. I am not exactly a cat person, but I HATE mice. If I lived in the States, I would like to kill cockroaches, preferably by slow torture. Cannot stand creepy things.

this is good to know. I have a cat and never see roaches here, just a tiny mouse, very small I thought it was my cat's hair ball. in my homeland we use mothballs to get rid of roaches, they hate the strong smell, but I don't mind planting a small plant in the house

Thanks so much for the tip esterlou! Hubby and I had roaches for the first time while living in Arkansas and in a subdivision for the first time. I'm a very clean person and like my house to be clean as well but we had a couple of neighbors, one on each side of us who weren't all that clean and that's how we got roaches. Luckily we had a contract that came with the house when we bought it with the exterminator and it didn't cost us that much to have one come out and kill those nasty creapy sob's!! LOL I liked to come apart when I saw one. My house is clean so what the heck are they doing here???? lol It took some thinking to figure it out and asking around only to hear, "yeah we have them too." ARGGGGG!!
