yesterday we had egg in a hole for brunch, haven't had it in a long time, but it is an old standby favorite since I was a kid. This is where you cut a hole in the center of a piece of bread and place it on the griddle - then you crack an egg into that hole and cook it - flip and do the other side. basicly you end up with egg and toast in one. it is really flavorful though.... we all really like the "holes" that we cut out toasted as well. sometimes I will put some pieces of bacon or sausage with the egg. my daughter likes hers with a piece of cheese on top and then another piece of bread over that (no hole cut) which then gets toasted as well. hers is like a grilled cheese/egg n a hole. do you eat egg in a holes what do you call it?

We used to make that when we were kids but we called it "egg in a frame". I just saw a commercial yesterday with a guy making one for his girlfriend.

it is interesting to see all the different names for it. I have never heard of this one. Do you say it as one word eggINAframe? we always called it eggINAhole.

It is fun to see all the different names...I guess we said it as separate words, not all one.

My parents used to call it Moon over Miami. I make it on occasion, but not too much. I like to put a bit of butter in the pan and fry up both sides of the bread before I had the egg

I have heard of egg in a hole before but never made it - reading your directions I just may try it as I'm looking for new ways to fix eggs. We have live chickens and are getting 5-10 fresh eggs each day - only 2 in the house that eat eggs regularly I'm running out of ways to use them and we may start selling them soon.

we keep chickens too, only we had a massacre last autumn and lost all 30. We hatched out a few and now only have 4 pullets and a cockeral - can't wait till spring when they will start laying for us.

you gave me an idea for another food to try on Modestah, Actually, I have not eaten anything like that yet, though I eat bread and egg all the time but not that way! Thanks!

I make this often. There are so many different ways to prepare it that I never tire. Sometimes I dice an already zapped potato and let it warm up in the other side of the skillet and serve them together. I love eggs. Don't eat 'em for breakfast though.

I love egg in a hole. I have always called it toad in a hole though. I'm not sure why. I've never done it with the grilled cheese thing. It sounds great. I think that I may have to have a toad in the hole later and try the grilled cheese thing. Thanks for the idea.

I too have ate this but I call it eggs in a basket. It's a very good easy thing to make for breakfast or brunch. I make mine like normal but then have a side of hash browns.

My husband introduced these to me, but his family calls them Lone Rangers. Something to do about his father and listening to the Lone Ranger as to why they call them that. I'm not much for fried eggs, but the kids love them. I like the idea of adding cheese or bacon.

Yup, my family eats them all the time. I was raised calling them gypsym eggs. (I'm not sure how to spell that). I never thought of making the grilled cheese sandwich out of them. My kids love grilled french toast and cheese sandwiches, probably pretty similar in flavor.
