What do you think of keyboard covers?

Ever use a keyboard cover? - keyboard covers

I used a keyboard cover for a couple of months and hated it. I'm a good typist but the cover made it very hard to type. Granted, it was great for keeping crumps and ashes from my cigarettes from getting between the keys but for me it was a pain in the neck and kept bunching up on me even though I made sure I bought a good one. Have you ever used a keyboard cover? If you have what were your experiences with it....If not would you try one?

I don't smoke anymore and i have never eaten anything at my computer so I don't need to worry. I can't see how anyone could type with those covers on the keyboard.

I'll tell you it wasn't easy...or fun for that matter. I got it free so I tried it out but I never did buy one.

I do not like keyboard covers, and cannot imagine ever using one..I have seen people that do use them but i really do not see any need for them..It sorta reminds me of taking a bath with your socks on..Lol...I can keep my keyboard clean by just blowing on it if anything like ashes get on it..I also buy those cans of air made to clean your computors at the store, and give it a good blowing ever so often....

lol....taking a bath with your socks on...that sounds about right! I also use the cans of air but I also use my vacuum cleaner hose when I'm vacuuming around my desk and that does a heck of a job!

Maybe, I am missing something here; but, all the "keyboard covers" I have seen were for placing over the keyboard when it was NOT in use. They keep out dust, etc. while the keyboard is just "sitting there" and you take them off when you want to use them. Same as a monitor cover, printer cover, or PC cover. They also keep out pet hair when your pet decides to use the keyboard as a "bed" since you aren't there using it. I have never seen one that was designed to be placed over the keyboard while you were typing and that may be why you are having so much trouble.

I tried a keyboard cover once and could not manage to type correctly with it over the keys! I made so many mistakes that it was impossible to read my work and I also typed much slower with it on the keys. I guess I'll live with the crumbs! I have literally worn the white letters off a few of my keys! Thank goodness I took typing as a class many years ago (on a typewriter!) and can 'type in my sleep'...don't need the white letters!

I never thought of them. I would probably not go out and buy one though I think if I got one free I would try it out. I don't have an expensive keyboard though and if something was to happen to it I would just pick up another $10 one at Walmart. But if I had a nice system I would be more careful. Jessica has a nice laptop (Bought new September)and she doesn't have drinks or eat while on it. It would annoy me if I had to frig with it bunching up on me too.

I think I actually got the one I used free and never did buy another one because of the bunching up. Maybe if I had a new one it would have been a better fit.

I have never used one at home, but I have used them at work. It was kind of expected of us. I didn't like using it because it was just a pin to take off and put on. Back then we also logged off our computers and shut them right down. Since then, I have been told to not turn it right off. It just takes more energy to start it up again. So now I just leave my computer on and my screensavor just runs. But I don't put a keyboard or monitor cover on the ones I have at home.

I don't like keyboard covers. That only hastens the speed of typing. I have removed the cover from my keyboard on the very first day. Even I hate covers on calculators.

Don't like them at all since I already have fairly long nails and that just makes the keys sink deeper and further from my fingertips. About the crumbs or ashes from cigs, I just flip her over and the keyboard drops all the stuff from in-between ! sharing the light and happy new year, Miss Erica Hidvegi, the Enlightenment_Advisor, B.A. Psych/M.A. Transpersonal Studies- Cnslng/Author, Artist, Photographer, Entrepreneur & Freelance extraordinaire

Nope never used or owned one. I know someone who had one but took it off when they used the computer. Guess it saved them cleaning the keyboard out all the time. They had one for the monitor as well.

I don't like keyboard cover as I don't think it's necessary. My computer is used so frequently and it is no need to have a keyboard cover.

I hate covered keyboards I have used them but you alway end up pressing two keys at once on them and what you type does not come out right. I have spilled pop on my keyboard and that is a real sticky mess the keys will stick down.

I have never used such thing or even seen it. It isnt worth i can say though. If it isnt convenient in typing then for sure its a nuisance. If dirt is going inside you can always clean it with pressurized air or something.

I haven't seen the need for one until now, since my keyboard is full of grease (cause I eat near it). Too bad theres none that are the correct size for my keyboard (Microsoft Digital Media Pro).

When we got our very first computer, my husband the perfectionist ordered a custom fitted keyboard cover.Since it was the only thing I knew at a time, I was fine with it I might have trouble with it now. It was custom made and fit extremely well.

When my computer was new i used to cover both the computer and the keyboard but not anymore now. Keyboard covered usually makes one uncomfortable to type normally and sometimes if the cover is not soft than it becomes a big problem to type very fast as sometime double letters are also typed unknowingly. Even if we cover the computer we should not cover the keyboard as if not covered it gives us space to type with comfort.

I've been wanting to get one one day but haven't as of yet. So they're a pain in the rear, huh? Hmmm, I just might rethink that idea then. After all, keyboards aren't all that expensive to buy if and when we ever need to replace one.

I have used a keyboard cover for more than 1 year and i loved it. The cover fit my keyboard very well, so i didn't feel any inconvenience for my typing.i'm used to eat and drink before my laptop, so the cover can make my keyboard very clean. I hate the dirty keyboard, especially the keyboard in white.

I am not a good typer and a keyboard cover makes it worse. I did not like using it and would avoid it in the future. They need to find a better solution to protect the keys on the computer.
