I love to read any book especially non-fiction books. Wherever i go, i always bring at least one book with pocket size so i can read if i have time. Usually i read book inside the car or bus when i back home. I heard its a bad habit for my eyes, but i dont care. I dont have any negative effects on it. It just come to my mind, is it really that terrible to read book inside the car?

I read almost the whole last Harry Potter book on my way to North Carolina. It is okay to read when in the car as long as you aren't the driver :)
It makes some people get motion sickness so they can't do it but luckily I can.

As has been mentioned, as long as you are not the driver it should not be any harm to read while you are traveling. It is exercise for the eyes and the brain instead of just staring at nothing (unless there is plenty of sight seeing that you like).I drive most places that I go so I do not often get a chance to read while traveling but I will take something to read whine I am not driving.
Of course there are times that it is not great to read and that is when there is not enough light, then you should not strain your eyes to read, because you might not get the meaning of what you are reading. Maybe you could get some portable light that will light up the pages that you are reading without affecting the driver?

Yes, while i am reading, i am not driving... ahah. Its crazy, one hand with book and another one for driving. I am just joke. The light also the most important factor, because if the light is not enough or too much into eyes, our eyes easily "tired" and its not good for muscle eyes. Thanks for reply.

It's okay if you prefer like it. I love reading fiction books as well and I carry one sometimes if i'm traveling, i'm making sure of it. The thing is I'm easily distracted with noises or any objects moving around me when i'm reading so i usually read in my room only.

It definitely depends on the person's susceptibility to motion sickness.
For example, I read in the car all the time, maybe even more so than I do outside of the car. I get really into it, and hardly notice that we're in the car at all.
On the other hand, my older brother gets sick when he reads in the car (or when he glances over at the book I'm reading too.)
(It makes for good taunting material)

I would love to be able to read in the car but I get car sick if I do read. It gives me the worst headache. We drive 10 hours to visit my husband's mom and I would LOVE to be able to take a book to read.

For me, it is quite ok to do some reading when traveling. I find it is easy to past time by reading favorite books in the tedious and bored journey. If the vehicle is moving on a bumpy road I definitely will stop reading. I also don’t read if the light coming into the car is too strong. Both of these will bring bad effect to our eyes if we keep on reading during such situation.

as long as you enough enough light to read by, ive never heard of any negative effects of reading in the car..unless of course you get motion sick.
i would love to be able to read a book on long road trips when im not the driver, but im rather prone to getting car sick when i cant see the road ahead..so reading is out of the question for me.

I also love to read, but like others of your respondents, I get motion sick. I can't even sit quietly in the back without getting motion sick. I did discover I could cross stitch and not get motion sickness, so when I was driving cross country with my mother back in the late 80's and early 90's, I'd take a project.
But I always had a book to read once I was not in the car....

According to my opinion, as long as we enjoy it and get no motion sickness, it's okay to read during a car trip. However I never do it as my head will get dizzy when I read in the car and I cannot concentrate either. my kids love to do that and usually I forbid them as it will give bad effect to their eyes.

You may read a book if car drive slow or medium speed and drive by a driver. If in speedy car then you must keep eyes open on the road because some time passenger can help driver to avoid any unwanted accident by advising run slow, move slow and take care etc. alert.

It's not advisable reading in a moving vehicle period...You may not experience the effect early but you'll gradually suffer the consequences of losing the clearness of your sight. I was so stubborn then coz I really read a lot while i am in a moving vehicle and now at 25, I am wearing glasses and I'm not really comfortable with it.
