Water Aerobics and swimming would be the best. The water would take the weight of your body off your knee while you still got some exercise in and it is good for your whole body. I know that I hate to swim but I was thinking of joining the water aerobics class at my local YMCA.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to know how to swim. I was watching the ladies this past week and they only went to about mid chest level and you do it in the shallow end of the pool.

Thanks, I will try that out, but I wonder if they will take me since I can not swim. But since I will be in the water, maybe I don't have to know how to swim...but I do want to learn.

I was also going to recommend water aerobics. You don't have to know how to swim. Most likely it's in water that's shallow enough to stand in but if not I'm sure you can hold onto a floatie or wear a vest. Even kicking while holding onto the side of the pool is good exercise.
You can also do sit ups for abs, lying leg raises, flutter kick while on your stomach for your back, push ups, yoga...you can do lots of non-impact exercises...keeping it going for longer than 20 minutes will work your muscles and burn calories and fat.

Hey, thanks a lot brimia...those sound like some good ideas and I am about to try each and everyone of them, that is except the water aerobics, until I can find a place to do it.

You could try arm aerobics, or sit ups, or even get a mini trampoline, if you are able to jump. :]

Have you tried pilates? You are on the floor the whole time. They are pretty low impact. However, they do have some moves where you stand on your knees. If they hurt you could just do a different workout. I have teh winsor pilate set. I love it.

This is a hard one if you have a bad knee..the only thing that i know that you could do to "firm up" is to get some little hand weights and use those to help firm your arms up...and you could try nad do a few sit ups every now and then that would help with your chest and your stomach...and for your legs you could try and do a few squats every now and then..as long as it doesn't hurt too much!

Thanks so much, I am doing the hand weight thing and on my good days, I think I sabotage myself because I do too much. But thanks for the info.

I can't walk for the 30 minutes continuously, but I have been trying to walk for a full 10-15 minutes at a time to add up to the 30-45 minutes. Thanks.
