What type of clothes do you iron?

I only iron clothes that are use when I go out, mostly school uniforms and formal dresses, but those clothes intended to wear at home only, I don't iron them, I just fold it neatly and arrange in the cabinet. But the daughter of my father's employee iron all types of clothes including those which are already worn out, I do think it is just a waste of electricity. In my tutee's house too, they also iron all sort of clothes and even those bed sheet and blanket. That is why, I wonder if many people do it. How about you, do you iron all sort of clothes, including bed sheet, blankets and worn out clothes?

I try to buy non iron materials where I can and only iron what really needs ironing. I fold towels and put in airing cupboard. It is usually my work trousers and blouses that need the most and I will put an iron over anything tha looks a bit crummpled, but like you I think it uses a lot of electricity and it is not necessary to iron a lots of items. Wastes time too. I could be here chatting instead eh! I do know someone that even irons socks cos they go into drawer more neatly! Ellie :D

That would be a lot of work and time consuming and consume much electricity, but I guess you like it that way and seems you have a good reason for doing so. Me, I think I will never survive ironing lots of clothes I am lazy to iron clothes. Thanks for the response.

Hi Honeylore, I do the same as you. I iron only 'important' clothes; formals and so on. I hardly iron old clothes and wear at homes. I don't even dream of ironing pillow cases and bed sheets. To be frank, many times I am so lazy that I don't even iron the formals. I just go out in crumpled clothes; so far no one has noticed; if they have, they have maintained discreet silence. Cheers. :)

Hello positive mind, am lazy too to iron clothes, but I have to, once a week, or else my younger sisters would wear crumpled uniforms. I seldom iron my own clothes, I only iron those type of clothes that crumpled after washing.

Yeah, I don't think of it as practical but others do it. Maybe they like to iron clothes or maybe they have other reasons. One who respond here said she do iron all, even bed sheets and blankets and as well as clothes used only at home because she is worried her children might get infections.

No, I am like you, iron only the things needed while going out or the things which gets wrinkled while washing. If I can fold them correctly and nicely, I do not iron them. It is better to put them under the pillow or Bed for it to get ironed. I save on electricity bills like that. I have also seen many people who do as you have seen, but I just do not follow them. I just follow my own rules..

Mine use to put in the cabinet, I just fold it nicely by pressing my hands over the clothes to remove some of the wrinkles then have it place inside the cabinet. Sometimes, If I really dn't want to iron clothes, I don't twist the clothes after washing, I just hang it wet and let so there will be no wrinkles.

Sometimes I make the mistake of purchasing clothing items that would require ironing after washing. They get thrown onto the ironing board until there is quite the pile and then I force myself to iron... or when I find I am in need of a particular item on that board. Usually it is cotton blouses and men's dress shirts. I certainly do not iron bedsheets and jeans. I am terrible at ironing. It is frustrating for me as I can't seem to get the wrinkles out, or I leave a dark mark on the material. I also get a blister on the palm of my hand from ironing. I have to learn to check labels more carefully when I am shopping for clothes.

I iron clothes that wrinkle, that is pure cotton or wool. If the clothes have polyester in them, I do not need to iron them. I do have a couple of shirts that wrinkle very easy, and a black skirt that I have to iron, but about the daughter of your employee ironing, she does that because she is the daughter of an employee, in other words, a servant and they are usually expected to have things perfect and looking nice. Even in Canada, when I was younger the habits die hard, that those who worked in domestic service or were housekeepers, well they taught their daughters to iron everything including the rags because that is what they were supposed to do.

sorry, was not able to check well my message, that would be daughter of my father's employer, so she is in fact ironing their own clothes, she is not a servant. Maybe she just love ironing clothes, but I am more bothered of the electric consumption.

I rarely iron any clothes anymore. I use to iron a lot of my husband's cotton shirts, but he has stopped wearing them. My new dryer has a wrinkle rid and it works great. I remember when my grandmother use to iron the sheets, etc. I can remember my mom teaching me how to iron. I use to iron all my dad's hankerchief's as a child.

I too iron only the clothes that I wear outside. I do not iron other clothes like bedsheets, blankets etc. I don't feel that should be ironed as long as you get them fully dried. In some places they cannot sun dry their bedsheets due to non availability of space, they should iron the bed sheets or blankets so that they are fully dried and comfortable to use. I never iron worn out clothes.

That would be a reason to some, to make sure blankets are fully dried. Using wet blankets as well as bedsheets is not good to us, it can cause pneumonia.

Never in my life would I iron bed sheets or anything having to do with my bed! (LOL) I see this as a waste of time because the bed garments will just get wrinkled again when a person sleeps on them! I don't iron many things nowadays for lack of time. When I was in college, I mostly just ironed my skirts. I never buy any garments that are made out of linen because that material gets wrinkled too easily! Like I said, I don't iron anything now because I keep most of my clothes hung up in the closet or folded in my drawers in such a way that they don't wrinkle easily. If something is wrinkled, I have a spray solution made by Downy brand that I spray on them. I pat them dry and stretch them out when they're wet with the spray solution, which helps to pull out the wrinkles. I don't even have to waste time ironing anything that way! If something is very wrinkled and this solution doesn't work, I'll get the piece of clothing slightly damp with water and put it in the the clothes dryer to cycle for a few minutes until dry and then I'll wear it. It'll be niec and warm too! (LOL) I avoid ironing at all costs because I don't like it. I've gotten better at it over the years and with practice, though!

I iron the least I can because I hate it but that is a good point about it wasting electricity, must remember that. I'm like you I only iron what I have to, stuff like work clothes and even then I'll cheat and only iron what is seen, hehe. I can't see the point as most clothes get wrinkles in them as soon as you put them on.

Yeah, it is very devastating, you put extra effort to remove the wrinkles but just after you have it wear, the wrinkles appear again. Anyway, I also cheat when doing iron, I will try to check the clothes first, if it appears very wrinkled I will iron it neatly, but if it does not appear like that, I just look for the wrinkled section and iron. That is to lessen my time in ironing, cause I really hate doing iron.

yeah they are used every day and they gets wrinkled soon as we used them, so not practical to have it iron, it just make me think I am exerting extra effort to something not needed to do.

Yeah, I do agree, I always feel bored when I iron clothes, even though it is only once a week. But I am much concern of saving electricity, and that is my main reason why I want it be done once a week.

Anything and everything really. As long as it is something worn outside and for more than super-casual reasons, I iron them. It's always good to be neatly groomed.:P

I usually dont iron my clothes unless if it is polo, or my uniform. The rest i just let my nanny to either fold it neatly or if she feels too generous she will iron and fold it neatly. I do agree with you that it is a waste of electricity.

Honestly, I don't iron anything at all. I own a couple of things that need the wrinkles ironed out every now and then, but if that happens I hand them over to my husband. He is in charge of the ironing in our house. I am terrible at it. The stuff just ends up looking worse when I try it. Typically I try and get the stuff that needs to be wrinkle-free out of the dryer when they are still hot, then they don't get all wrinkly.
