Depression Making Me Just Want To Sleep

It seems like lately, all I want to do is sleep. Out of my average day, I'm in bed and/or asleep at least 16 hours a day, usually much longer. It seems when I'm awake, I'm not actually mentally aware. Does anybody else get like this when their depression is acting up? What's the best way to help it?
I've been up for about six hours now, which is the first time in over a week that I was able to do this. I'm trying to occupy my mind, but since my concentration has all but dried up lately as well, it's a bit hard. I've noticed busy-work (chores and such) has helped. What kind of ways can you tell that your depression is getting worse?
My doctors think it's either Borderline Personality Disorder, or Bipolar. I'm seriously thinking Bipolar with these mood swings of mine. _

Do you get like this in the winter? I do and my depression like most people In the winter... Are you going to take meds? I know my meds helps me so much. Right now mine is mainly postpartum since I had a baby five months ago. I hope you find the right treatment and feel better asap!

You, that might explain why I've been sleeping so much lately. It's been snowing like crazy, and I haven't really been going much of anywhere.
I'm currently working with my psychiatrist to figure out the right medications for me. I'm on Abilify right now, and it's obviously not enough by itself.
I hope you start feeling better, as well. ^_^

I've never been on Abilify, but I'm on Lithium and an anti-depressant. It doesn't keep me in a fog like some people think it would. I can't believe I'm admitting I'm on Lithium, but I want so bad for something to work for you. I didn't know when I first responded that you were seeing a psychiatrist. I'm glad. : )

I am bipolar and until I was diagnosed, my life was pretty much hell. I recommend seeing someone, as much of a pain as it is. The difference between then and now is a lot for me. I still struggle, as all bipolars will, but it is worth it just knowing there is more to life than what I used to do. I used to take Tylenol PM before I went to school so I would be hazy and unaware all day. When I got home from school I'd take more Tylenol PM and sleep. At bedtime I'd take more Tylenol PM. It might not surprise you that Tylenol PM doesn't work on me anymore. I did that for a year. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 22, but that is when I think my life really began. If you need to talk, I'm here. I hope you can get some help. It's something you were born with, it is not your fault.

*hugs* Thanks, hun. I'm glad things are better for you now. I'm already seeing somebody (two, a psychiatrist and a therapist, in fact), and it's helping, but really slowly. I see the doctor next week, and I'm going to nag her for some mood elevators, or something of the sort. I also want something for the depression. I used to not be this bad, back when I was on Abilify, Prozac, and Wellbutrin, but she took me off the Prozac (I went off the Wellbutrin, because of the side effect I had of hearing voices). I'm going to ask for it back, and maybe some other stuff, too. Getting the right meds is just a pain in the rear sometimes. Lots of sleepless nights before I started doing nothing but sleep.

I wish I could sleep, I think I sleep less as a result, therefore I have insomnia so am on Imovane (which is Lunesta in the US) and it sucks having to be on that. I definitely have depression and just started taking paxil. I wouldn't be surprised if I also have borderline personality disorder but hasn't been dx'ed but I have most of the symptoms of it.

I don't know what to tell you Amber. You have made strides toward staying awake and thats excellent, but I don't know what else to recommend. Perhaps chores isn't the right way to go about it (yes they need to be done, but theres more to do than just that). Take up a hobby you like (or two or three). Spends some time with friends and family (yes I include mylotters in this). But if you aren't feeling right you should force yourself.

I'm mostly just being impatient. I don't get to see my psychiatrist again until next Thursday. That's bugging me, because this sleep thing is just making me want to scream. I stayed awake today, so I must've done something right. *hugs* Thanks hun, for caring about me. I appreciate it so much.

Depression affects alot of people especially in the winter months, when it is cold and dark longer. I think we tend to want to sleep more in the winter almost like a Hybernation. I have struggled with Depression since I was young. I tried councelling and Paxil and it didn't work for me. So I went off and let my life fall apart for many years. Getting pregnant with my son was the only thing that made me change my life. I am now on an anxiety/depression medication. I don't know why I never did it sooner. I have never been so happy. I just needed the right medication. Not all of them are the same so just keep trying until you find the right one for you. Good luck and let me know how things work out.

My depression keeps me up I stay awake tossing and turning until early morning then I fall asleep and have to get up 2 or 3 hours later. Depreesion is not a joke and for some people it takes live including their own. Some of those people who have kiled at the schools who were asking for help that me I was always thinking if I kill someone then they will help me,my mind was always over crowded you know thoughts racing in and out of my head. The only thing that stopped me or I will say the only people that stopped me were my children I would always see their face when my depression got that low I was finally able to get help an am still getting it,its hard but worth it.

For years I slept alot more than the average person. If I wasn't at work or carrying my mom to the store I was usually asleep. I take Lexapro now and I don't sleep near as much. I also found that exercise and meditation helped. Low carb dieting also kept me from sleeping as much. In fact one of the reasons I went off of it was the insomnia.

it seems like you have a problem that is bothering you in your mind and you can't find a solution. whatsover is in our conscious mind, is recorded in our subconscious mind and it is the one that reacts back, and give you the answer. what's ever you recorded in you subconscious the answer will be according to what you planted, your subscouncious does not reason with you nor argue with you. it seems like you can't find a solution to your problem and you are giving your subscious different directions and it is confused and in this state it can't rest for it is busy searching for the answers which might came somehow according to what you dwell on mostly in this problem you have. Man, just relax.if if can't find an answer to your problem, just take a walk, relax, calm down your nerves, spend a quality time with someone that makes you happy, if you like music go for it and just keep on affirming this, 'right now my infinite intelligence is processing a good answer to my problem soon or later i will get an answer. Just expect a good answer to your problem. this world is not a world of the coward if you want to survive deny your feelings and just believe that behind every darknees there is a brighter day. ignore your negative feelings, find and anchor something that makes you happy and dwell your mind on it.

excercise is suppose to help a lot! but something else you might want to try is the tanning bed because it gives off natural sun rays which makes the brain feel better, in lamen terms

I am the same way! Where do you live? I live in Ohio and it has been snowing a lot so Ive been sleeping a lot. I think thats the main thing that triggers mine is cold weather! I am just starting to feel better though, and I think it may be because I went to kentucky to see my boyfriend this past week. A) it is a tad warmer in Kentucky, and B)seeing the boyfriend definitely improved my mood. So maybe try doing something that you know will make you happy. Or just get away from everything. But Dont let yourself be alone! Everyone says that exercise helps, but when you cant get out of bed, you cant exactly exercise, so I would just stretch instead of full-blown workouts. oh or yoga might help??? Good luck girl! I feel ya!

It's really not unusual to hear complaints of excessive fatigue in regards to depression. I think one of the common things doctors have a propensity for doing is diagnosing someone with depression if they complain of chronic fatigue. My question to you would be; have you seen a doctor lately? The reason is because fatigue is such a general symptom that can be an underlying cause for many illnesses such as hypothyroidism, fibromyalgia, Klein-Levinson Syndrome (which is very rare), diabetes, and the list goes on. If it truly is depression you're suffering from, there are a lot of remedies out there. For instance medications such as SSRI's like Paxil, Prozac, or Lexapro can be affective in treating depression...but, some of those medications can cause a worsening of bipolar symptoms if indeed you might have that...in which case you might want to talk to your doctor about Geodon, Zyprex, or Lithium...counseling can also be a good tool as well.
Depression can be very debilitating and unfortunately the daily activities that help the average person deal w/stress aren't helpful. Usually there is a chemical deficiency in people w/depression like low seratonin levels.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Well, sometimes its unavoidable that we feel depressed for the day..but for the health its not a good side, i believe in Meditation which will balance our mind and helps to be normal at situations. and even i sleep at times.
