Best Responses and Newbies

I am aware that this subject has been discussed before. I think it should be posted again as I have noticed how many newbies are giving the best reponse out within a matter of a few hours after posting discussions. One user even says I quote" as you are this first to respond I am giving you best response"!!! Do these new myLotters
not realize how unfair it is to the many people who are not able to be on myLot all day just waiting with baited breath for the next discussion to be posted. How it can cut down on the number of responses they receive as many people will not bother to respond when the best has already been chosen. How can the discussion's originator really say that the chosen response for best is really best when they have not given enough time to read all the responses that may be posted in the next day or so???
I personally think that a discussion should be posted for a minimum of a week before the best response is awarded.
Anyone agree with me?

Oh yes my friend, I must agree with you.
I have come across examples like the one you mentioned too. Most of us just don't respond to a discussion right away - and by "right away", I don't even mean within 24 hours or 48 hours.
Personally, I think resolving discussions once a month is a pretty decent frequency. Not to mention, it is possibly more efficient too.:P

So glad to see you back. Missed you! I often leave mine a month so that I can really award the "best"

I don't think about the best response and sort of forget about it. I have a bunch of mune to do.
I am here to be of help to anyone that needs me.
I am here to connect to the mylot friends I hold dear.
I am here to make new friends.
I am here to talk about environmental issues, ways to heal our planet before it's too late.
I do appreciate when someone gives me a BR so I should get better at giving them.

i support you in this case dear. i know this kind thing is simple but sometimes people forget to do that (i think i belong to those forget people, so appologize me if i still giving best response in some my topic discussion :( ). giving best response and also giving comment back to the people who already drop comment to your topic discussion is kind of our reward and appreciate of their time and idea. thank you for giving this topic discussion again, whiteheather39

I think there have always been a percentage of the mylot users who give best response to prefered friends irrespective of quality. I have seen it said, and i quote, we have an arringment, i give her best response and she does the same for me, where is that breaking the rules. Im sorry but i long since stopped caring
blessed be

There are times when a response will jump out at you and cry for best response rating, but usually it is best to give it some time. Personally if I am interested in the topic I respond even if best response is chosen already.

I respond to the discussion I am interested in from my email notifications so I cannot see if the best response has been chosen. However I still think that some time should be given even if I get a great response right away.

hi there,
i agree with you that's so true..
i am a newbie myself i just joined last night and i do feel the same why..
how can you award when you don't have any point for comparison right?
you should be able to read a couple of comments before hastily awarding a best response.. i did so myself once and i regret it afterwards..

When I was a newbie, someone said "Your first response should ALWAYS be the first response, because it is the response that validates your discussion." A different point of view. I did not buy it. Of course there are people like me who wait way too long to give out the "best response". I respond whether a best response has been given or not, if I like the discussion. I am fortunate, the last day or two some of my older discussions are getting more play. I always welcome new responses. I know some people refuse to give best responses at all as they are afraid of offending.

I think you are absolutely right.I have nowadays noticed taht most of the users are picking best responses very very quickly. I do not know how users can do so without reading atleast few responses to be obtained.I think after BR is awarded, there can be many responses which are to be ideally BR.

I personally think we can do away with this feature. It's of no benefit other than to give someone a pat on the back. I find it time consuming to resolve those discussions (it can be very hard to choose and also if you have lots of responses, whew...what a time waste!) and I rarely check to see if I've achieved BR then I have to go in and say "thanks".
Also, as you point out, it's open to misuse.

I agree with you. How can one response to a discussion be determined as the best response when their are other people who haven't been given a chance to respond. The best response isn't supposed to be who answered the discussion first but who gave the best response to the discussion. I wait at least a week before I pick a best response.

I do agree with you. I usually ...ok always...wait quite a while before making that decision. It is usually because until recently I have had very little time to spend on here. I am glad that I waited. On some of my articles, the best response was a long time in coming. That being said, what is the purpose of this rating. does anyone know?

I agree. It should be in the terms by myLot, but there ya go... there are many more things they need to do. It is a work in progress.

I do leave my discussions for at least a week but I did do a br after one response, almost instantly because the discussion had been left with 0 responses for at least a week.
I would have liked to leave it longer but due to the fact that the interest is not a popular one, I felt that it would be better to br it now, rather than leave it for possibly years. Especially as we are getting near payout and every cent counts.
I have in fact left some that are doing well for longer without giving a br just because as you say it is not fair until a lot of people have responded.

i agree with u much more .i have in fact left some that are doing well for longer without giving a star just because as u say it is not fair until a lot of people have responded .how can i to a discussion be determined as the best response when their are other people who have not been given a chance to respond .the best response is not supposed to be who answered the discussion first but who gave the best response to the discussion .i wait at least a week before i pick a best response .u must find if many responses have already been solicited or in the case of a small number of responses .one particular post is so overwhlmingly good that it will like responses might come in the futrue .i saw that thd person had already selected the best response ,but it is not best respose .i think some newbies has started and mark some response feature should be grayed out .but if u take discussion much more staidness when u response ,u will find ur star rating will be much more .

Well, I am new, but I saw the comment you mentioned and thought the same thing. I did give BR on a few of my discussions that have only been up for a few days as I just learned what "resolve a discussion" meant so I had to try it. I also would not have thought, at this point, to leave it for a week though. So, I appreciate the guideline as it looks like most agree with it.
