I don't think there is any description that will fit all Chinese people. I've heard people say the things you listed, but I think it's too general. I'm sure that intelligence levels and beauty vary just as they would anywhere else.
I'll let you know if I have a different idea after I visit China.

Thank you! I will be visiting Beijing and Xi'An sometime this spring. I won't have as long as I would like in either city, but hopefully I can do some sight seeing.

I don't think.
Really, I think there is good and bad and neutrals in every group of people.
So one should not really generalize and say that the Chinese is this or that.

I don't think Chinese is ugly.But it is not very easy for the foreigners to learn.

I agree! I am trying to learn a little bit of Mandarin right now and it's more difficult than other languages I've studied. There is no way that I'll be able to read anytime soon. Maybe someday though.

I am Chinese,I don't think it ugly.But it is really not very easy for the foreigners to learn Chinese.I have ever help some foreign friends to learn Chinese.Most of them say it is very difficult to memorize the Chinese characters
