This morning I had the http://www.poverty.com/ site open when the phone rang.
I had made a note of the time. We spoke for an hour, 15 minutes.
In the length of time we spoke 556 people died of hunger.
556 human being are no longer alive!
I wanted to cry(and did)!
Good God what am I doing here in this world that as a human being I am not doing more?
I need your help..
everyone here that calls me friend I am asking..
no begging you to get on www.freerice.com once a day for 5 minutes..
that's 35 minutes a week to help save some of these people.
PLEASEEEEEEE help me do this!
I know that some of you already do and I am so thankful that you do.
Again Please commit to 5 minutes a day.
This is a matter of LIFE AND DEATH
I earn at least 1000 a day everyday.
This is a challenge...
Will you accept?
Please respond with what you can do.
Will you take up this cause too?
My love to all

What a wonderful idea! I went to the site, donated 1,020 grains of rice, and I will go back several times during the day, and each subsequent day, to keep this going. Thank you for making us all aware of this novel way to donate rice to the starving, my dear friend.
Brightest Blessings.

Yes, it's time we embraced the world's children and helped where we can. The only trouble here is the military rule in some of these countries... when we send aid, they won't let it through and the children suffer.
It breaks my heart too, and now, it's time for today's first visit to the Free Rice site. :)

I can understand why you felt so sad Mom - it is a difficult thing to know that some have so much and others die through a lack of food - I just wish there was more I could do!
I do visit the free rice site every day and try to always make at least 2000 grains! Niall has been visiting often too! xxx

It is very sad, all the poverty in this world, the homeless, the ones with so many health issues and no insurance. I see it almost everyday. And am aware of it everyday.
Thank you for the website, it's something else I'll be able to do to help even if in a small way.
Every little bit helps and adds up.

I totally agree. I try to do something good for someone or an animal everyday. My good deed, so to speak.
I think you reap what you sow...and if you put out good it does come back. The same is true with bad.
I went immediately to the site you gave. I'm also going to issue a challenge "as it is". I got 2900 for these good people. In a short amount of time. Maybe 30 minutes or so.
It's a word challenge. There's nothing you can do wrong. But for every one you get right they get rice. It's an easy way to help others. I will return!

Thanks for reminding me about this site. I saw a news segment about this site on either 20/20 or 60 Minutes. I tried to remember the sitename, but I forgot. I am on there now and have donated 480 grains of rice. I'll keep it up.
This site is pretty good for me because I can learn as I help others. I am good at guessing what a word means, so that helps me get the correct answers as well.
I'll e-mail people and give them the website to look through. I'll also put it on my blogs and MySpace to get the word out.

Hi Raydene. It is disheartening to see people dying everyday because of hunger and poverty. It humbled me to think that I'm blessed to have all the basic necessity in life.
You are noble to spread your plea to all of us and I salute you for that. I am already starting to paste all the banners on my blog and working on promoting it in the hope to generate and encourage more viewers to join us in fighting poverty and hunger. :)
