Do you prefer hard floors or carpet?

In our new home, my husband wanted hard floors (we went with laminate) in the living room. The family room is carpeted. I prefer carpet- the laminate floors are uncomfortable, hard to keep clean and slippery. They sure are pretty to look at but I think I would prefer carpet in all living areas (except the kitchen, dining and baths of course). What's your preference? Why?

First of all congratulation for your new sweet home. There is no place on the earth like your own home. Carpet and lamination both are good. I prefer your choice as it is your home. Carpeting and lamination both are for decoration. But we should also consider the comfort for the people living in their home. I could only say that God may bless your home.

I do think hardwood floors are pretty but everytime I go and visit someone who has them they say they just cleaned them and my kids end up with black marks all over them from the dirt so I don't like them and I would rather carpet in the livingroom, and bedrooms. My carpet is not in that great of shape since my kids like putting everything on them when I'm not looking and before that we had a dog so it was pretty bad.

I like both, and if i had a choice i really dont know which one i would choose. I guess now that i've thought about it i would choose hardwood, and maybe have a rug in the center of the room. Hard wood is easier to clean, but carpet is nicer on the feet in the winter and easier for kids to walk around on without slipping. On the other hand, carpet holds the dirt and dust and allergens. I'd go with hardwood ;)

My home has all hard wood flooring and I prefer it that way. Both me and hubby hate carpeting. Hard wood floors are easy to keep clean, no vacuuming every day and no bad smells. We have a very hairy dog and I think our carpeting would be full of dog hairs by now that would be impossible to get out of carpeting, so yeah, definately uncarpeted floors for us!

I prefer carpet because I like the way it feels and looks. Although having hardwood floors is easier to clean.

I like hard floors. Too much dirt and allergy with carpet. The only benefit to carpet is that it is warmer (for winter times) and softer than hard floor. I wish there was a way to combine the two. I would love soft hard (oximoron I know) warm floors.

If I lived where it was warm most of the time, I would prefer hardwood floors in the living room and maybe some scatter rugs, but since I live in Manitoba and it is cold half the year, I prefer carpets. Here only the rich people who can afford to polish their wood floors all the time, have hardwood floors, although it is becoming a trend. Carpet is warmer on your foot, easier to keep clean, you just need to vacuum it. The only time you do not want carpet is in the bathroom and kitchen since there things happen to get spilled on.

I prefer carpets. It is softer to walk on. You can go barefoot and not slip. And it is easier to clean.I have carpet in all rooms except the kitchen and I love it.

I like carpet for the warmth and quiet, but after paying $160 recently to have my house cleaned (carpets only) hard wood floors sound better.

Hi above31rubies, I believe that hardwood floors are much better, as carpet holds too much dust, even when you vacuum every day. I find that it is easier to clean hardwood floors too. Blessings.

I am totally a carpet girl. I don't like hardwood or laminate floors. They are so hard to keep clean and also when cleaning them you need to be so careful not to wear off the finish. You can't use a lot of water on the laminate floors or the floor will lift up and you can't use soap on them either, or it will leave streaks on them. You can't use soap on hardwood floors either or it will eventually wear off the finish. I used to won my own cleaning company and I have learned a lot of flooring since I was the one cleaning them and had to make sure that i wasn't wearing off the finish or I wouldn't be in business very long and could get sued for damages. So I went to the flooring store nearest me, and found out about these things.

Well, I prefer hard floors, cause I enjoy cleaning up, scrubbing and mopping the floor. I dont know why but I like it when I am able to see stains and spots on the floor and get it cleaned up immediately. Furthermore, I have little children who often mess up the house. Having carpet would make stains and spills hard to clean. Got to watch out for the wet floors though, dangerous for little kids.

I agree with you. I have little kids also and they are constantly making a mess. I have carpet though and I am shampooing it once a month. Sometimes twice if its heavy dirt. I cant stand a dirty carpet or floor. I am constantly scrubing stains off the carpet in between shampooings. I would prefer hard floors for the living and dining areas.

I've never had hard wood floors but since I have 2 very young children I would have to say I would pick hardwood floors over carpet anyday. Not that I'm speaking from experience with hardwood flooring but every place I've ever lived, whether it be brand new carpet or not, I've always had to get it replaced. Getting it proffessionally cleaned never got all of the stains out so I would have to lose my deposit! Maybe when my kids are older and don't track spaghetti through the house I wouldn't mind keeping carpet, but it sure is hard keeping up with!

I prefer carpeted floors because i like it when there's no sound. I don't like it when my heels are making sounds all over the house hehehe.. I love walking on a carpeted floors. I can walk just right. ;)

hi above31rubies. I prefer hard floors to carpets. It is easier for me to keep clean and to remove all dust from hard floors. Carpets look good, but they are less practiocal in my opinion. have a nice day, jazgottt.

We have hard wood floors (Pergot) throughout the entire house. We installed it because we have 6 boys, and keeping the carpet clean was nearly impossible. Keeping the pergot clean is so easy - all the spills wipe right up. I love it!

i prefer hard floors rather than carpet. my dorm and my house are all hard floor.i think it's easy to clean and it's reported that bacteria are easily to hide in the carpet.so i guess it's wise to prefer hardfloors.do you argee?
