Everytime I hear of a sale in a department store or mall, I make it a point to pay these stores a visit. I check out what items they have on sale. I check out how much discounts are offered for certain items. If these are items that I really wanted and they are in fact sold at lower prices, I buy. However, there were instances in the past where some items sold which are marked discounted are not really discounted. Like there was this time when I went to a certain department store a week before a sale to look for a gift I could give to a friend who was getting married two weeks after. I saw this set of plates that really looked good. I noted the price so that I could prepare enough money to buy it before the wedding. When the sale was announced, I immediately went to the store and check out how much the plates were. I was hoping it would be cheaper with the discounts they offered. On the shelf where these plates were displayed was a mark which says: 20% discount. So I told myself that I will buy it now because that will save me 20%. When I went to the cashier to pay for the item, she punched the same amount that the plates cost a week before. I had to ask the cashier about my concern and she told me that the price is the discounted price. So I told her that a week before the sale, I already saw the item and that I took note of the price. I told her that with the 20% discount, it should be cheaper. She looked at me with surprise and we had to call the supervisor so that my concern will be addressed. Same thing was said by the supervisor. To cut the long story short, I asked them to cancel my purchase because I believe that I was being cheated. Well, at first, they did not allow my request but later on approved anyway.

i don't usually buy things just because they are on sale... my principle is, if i don't need the stuffs, then i won't buy it no matter how cheap it is... it is a waste of money and will become junk in my house... instead of saving money, i am wasting money by buying something that i don't need...

In my place there are three hypermarkets. Almost every month we receive some well designed pamphlets with colorful pictures of stuff and attractive discounts and lower prices from the three hypermarkets during the sale season. I will make comparison of the prices of the items I wish to buy before visiting them. In this way I could save much money and time.

Shame on that store!... this is really getting more frequent nowadays... one time i heard two ladies talking about a store have a sale... but what they did is increases the prices of the items and put the % discount... that is plain cheating... this sort of thing should be reported to the department of trade and industry...
I love going to sales... but i only but the items that i really need... since luxury items are a no no in my family for now...

Your experience is quite familiar.. Im not making a hasty conclusion about Philippines but i experienced the same thing. Bought a halter top dress to a certain shop and two weeks after they had a sale from 20% to 70%. Since i like that dress so much, i decided to buy the same dress with a different color. When i asked for an assistance and asked how much the current price with the 20% discount, i was astonished since the price was still the same with the one i bought. Actually some stores really make that as their marketing strategy, stating that their items are on sale yet prices are still the same with the prices before on sale. Discount marks attract shoppers and there are really people who are impulsive buyer who doesnt take note of the prices. Its deception i guess but thats the way some stores do to increase their sales.
To answer your question, i do check on shop or malls that are on sale and buy goods that are worthy for the discount. Just a week ago had bought an Elizabeth Arden 5th avenue perfume at 50% less. Isnt it good? =)

I am like that where I check out the sale and the discount to see if the dicounts are worth while and many times I see where there are false sales. Sto res do that in ordere to draw customers at times when things are slow. You just have to be aware of scams that they will lower themselves to do.

I do a lot of my shopping when they are good sales to hit up, I have email laerts from some of my favorite store to let me know when they are about to have a huge sale. I always work them into my shcedule and spend way more than I should, but i get a lot of great deals.

Yes, I do buy things on sale days. Days are gone when sale season comes not very often, maybe once a year or twice a year. Nowadays here in our place, almost every month is sale month. Maybe because there are lots of seller and few buyers. And one more thing, they usually have their sales on same dates so thy dont entice buyers at all. If I like an item on sale and I have money I buy things on sale, on dresses, shoes, bags and some home decorations.

I love sales! I try to only buy things i need but sometimes i get compulsive and buy a little too much. Which with somethings is okay becuase youc an just give the extras as gifts. I do think it is ridiculous when stores raise prices right before a sale in order to make more money.

When I leave my little town and go to the mall, I only buy quality things i need that will last, for a great price. I work in retail and get a 50% discount off everything. So if I see a jacket for 100 bucks at the mall I like, I compare it the ones at my store for the same price and way the wants with the needs. I am super cheap now that i know all about mark-up prices!

I really love shopping especially when in night market sale. I love to buy things that i really need or sometimes i just want to.
I make sure that even it is sale, i look on the quality first. There are sale that has a small damage that you won't notice or some are out of style. It doesn't matter if it is sale if you can get a low quality. I also make sure if it was really sale or just putting a high amount and putting a 50 percent discount. I look for other store before i buy so i won't feel regret that it is more cheaper and good quality on the other store rather that the one that i already pick.

In the Philippines, shopping centers will have this really big sale, only twice a year. So people would really go and shop since it's not everyday that they can buy things with really big mark-down on prices.
But you are right, dolce vita. I heard the same story that was happened to my friend. I think in the philippines, some of the products that are on sale, is not really discounted. They just put those tags as if they are discounted but they are still the actual prices. Its just that the actual prices are very low, so it seems like the product has already discounted.

That was exactly their mistake and customer always have the right to demand for the corresponding discount or else they could be reported to DTI. Wrong price tags, wrong display of discount tags to a certain item is not allowed, the owner will have to shoulder some penalties if proved to have made the mistake.
I used to shop also in stores who are offering big big discounts but I also see to it that they are not cheating, thats why in our country the store are required to display both the original price and the discounted price on the price tags of sale items.

If I need something I'll buy it regardless of the price. If I don't need it I won't buy it, even if they're offering 75% discount. That's because I believe I can save 100% if I don't buy it. LOL
I'm not that much into shopping anyway and I think that's typical of guys.

That was a jip. I do shop the sales and one of the best stores to do that is Kohl's. They pretty much always have a sale going on of some sort but, periodically their sales get ridiculously phenomenal. I once bought a $120 necklace for 70% off! That was crazy! And, in my experience, on the off chance that a price is under a sign that says it is a percentage off and rings up differently, more times than not, if I mention it to the clerk, he or she will give me the sales price. One in particular has a really great attitude about the customer always being right and tends to do it without question.
There have been places that I have been who toot the sales horn but, the price didn't budge. Very frustrating.

I've recently cut my clothing budget to the absolute minimum, it's been over 6 months since the last time I purchase an article of clothing. The only time and place I shop is Victoria's Secret when they're having their annual/semi-annual sales. I know I can get things super-cheap then.
