What Do You Do When You Cannot Fall Asleep?

Hello, my dear friends. It is now 4:21 in the morning, but I am still unable to fall asleep. I think that it is because of my long afternoon nap from two till six. I went to bed at around one in the morning, but I could not fall asleep and then I got up to mylot for a little while. I am afraid that I will be exhausted tomorrow morning because of not having enough time to sleep during the night. I think that I will have to lie in bed again to try my luck. What do you usually do when you cannot fall asleep at night? Or have you ever had the same experience as I have had? Thanks for your response in advance. Love from williamjisir

you are better off than me. At least you had the nap. When I get on mylot at that time I have had no nap. So it'll be extra coffee for me.

I dont usually take a nap in the afternoons and for the past three weeks I didt have a really good night sleep. I have been disturbed with many things lately and keep thinking of this person, well I just try to close my eyes and try to sleep and then without my knowing I was able to fight and and got my needed sleep. I have lost a few pounds because of this sleeples and Im not enjoying it, hoping it will come to an end and stop thinking. Have a nice day and take care!

Hello dear zelmarq. If we are active in thinking about someone or something, it will be really hard for us to fall asleep unless we do not think anything once we lie on bed. Yeah, sleepless nights make us unable to enjoy our sleep and make us lose weight in a negative way, which is not what we expect. I hope that you are now having a good night sleep without being bothered by active thinking. Take care.

hello wiliamjisir , what you talk about is really a problem that disturbs almost everyone. i usually go to bed and get up in a regular time , that is around 11:30 at night and 7:30 inthe morning , most time i sleep well , but there is some exceptions , like recently , i always can't fall asleep in the afternoon or at night ,that makes me feel tired in the whole day , it is really an unhapy experience.

dear wiliamjisir , thank you for your response ! i went out for shopping with my friends yesterday . from 3:00pm to 9:00pm , i almost exhausted , and before sleep , i have a glass of milk , it makes me sleep well last night .

I usualy get up around 8 am and I have no problem getting to sleep at nights because I usally go to bed by midnight.I did take a nap yesterday but that is only because my grandsons whom spent the night with me got up about 6 yesterday morning and by 10:00 we all laid down and went back to sleep

whenever i can't sleep i usually listen to music preferably jazz... sometimes i do pushups in my room and then take a nice hot shower then lay in bed.. that works for me :D

That certainly was some afternoon nap you had, 4 hours, no wonder you could not sleep at night!! Your body would not have needed much sleep after a nap that long. To be honest with you I would not nap in the day and then you will probably sleep at night.Take care!

Hello dear gemini_rose. You are quite right. It is the four-hour afternoon nap that spoiled my night's sleep. So I will never take such a long afternoon nap any more. hehehehe. So do you keep awake till daybreak, dear balasri? I find that it is hard to suffer from being awake when it is time to fall asleep. It is painful to me if I can not fall asleep. So I hope that you will have a good sleep during the day if you keep awake at night. Take care.

If I couldn't fall asleep, I will just switch on the light and start to surf the net (Mylot of course) or read the books. If there is any boring movie, I will watch it. After some time, I will start to get tired and fall asleep again. But most of the time, I don't have the problem of insomnia. But before the age of 25, I used to have this problem. It could be due to my body metabolisme activity is high. Besides, consumption of a little coffee will keep me awake for the whole night. But after the age of 25, I gained weight and could fall asleep easily. How funny!

It's true. If you take a long nap in the afternoon, it will more likely cause the insomnia symptom during bed time. I think the policy in your country allow for a nap at noon right? But our country doesn't allow it at all. But luckily I am working in an US company and our time is more flexible, and therefore, when I feel too sleepy during working day (due to insomnia of the previous night), I will make use of the lunch time to take a 1 hour nap at home LoL. It's so refreshing after a quick nap and I really hope that our country will adopt such policy.

Hello dear cheongyc. Yeah, how funny it is when something changes with our age. I did not have to take a nap at all before I lost my first girlfriend. But since then I have got used to taking a nap almost every day unless when I am out travelling. A short nap will make me feel better, but on my days off, when I surf online, I would not need to take a nap unless I really feel too tired and sleepy. So this long nap of mine had already let me suffer too much. I will remember this lesson not to sleep that late when it is already two in the afternoon. Thanks.

Hello dear cheongyc. It is because I am working in the school that we have time enough to take a nap, but for those who work in a company, their situation might be different based on how busy their business is. So I think that it is the same with your case probably.

Wow I am so sorry :( I know how that is, I totally sympathize. Fortunately its been quite some time since I have been up that late because of not being able to sleep but I am on sleep meds with melatonin. I would take some melatonin to sleep, and if you did earlier, take more if you must. Its natural. My homeopathic dr said its safe if you have to take extra in cases like that. It USUALLY helps.

Hello dear mbs. Oh, yes, years ago, I bought and ate melatonin when it first came to the market in China. It is said to be a very helpful medicine. Hi dear jisir, If I find I couldn’t fall asleep, I will get up from the bed straight away, and do some light physical exercises like swinging hands for about twenty 15 minutes. I usually do this in the sitting so as not to disturb my hubby. This could let me relaxed gradually. I then will make myself a cup of hot milk and do some reading at the same time. Normally I would feel tired and sleepy after reading several pages of book. I know this is best moment for me to lie in bed again. Very fast I will fall asleep and have a sound sleep. Hi dear, a too long siesta normally will affect your normal night sleep, so please don’t indulge too much in an afternoon nap. Happy posting and bye.

Hi dear jisir, it is not bad to experience such a long siesta once in a while. I did enjoy the satisfaction of having long undisturbed nap in the afternoon. It is really indescribable how nice the feeling is. You are lucky to have such a caring partner to wake you up so that you won’t indulge too much in your afternoon nap though sometimes you might feel reluctant to wake up.

Hello dear lkbooi. Thank you so much for your helpful response. I will quit too long a siestar later on. It is really bad to sleep too long after lunch. I do not usually sleep this way during my days on, but it could be so during my days off, especially during the summer vacation when I am relaxing at home with my family. If I were at home with my wife, I would not have to worry about this because she will ask me to get up if I sleep too long in the afternoon. Thank you so much for your response.

I just keep thinking and thinking about the day's events or else I start counting from zero to infinite till I feel I am sleepy. Otherwise, I just go for my mobile phone and listen to some light music.

hi william! wow. you napped from two til six?? four long hours for a nap?? that's already a good night sleep for some people! ^__^;; i also experience sleepless nights like that. some people say that someone might be thinking of you that is making you restless and couldn't sleep. i don't know if its true but if it is, then please stop thinking about me! i want to go to sleep! LOL usually when i can't sleep, i just stay in bed and wait till i get tired of thinking and finally go to sleep. i seldom open the tv or opent the computer again because it will only make me sleepless more. so i just stay in bed, daydream until i fall asleep and the daydream finally becomes a real dream.

It is not bad to have such an experience because I spent the all the evening and early morning hours mylotting and got $1.58 the next day when the earnings were updated. hehehe. why don't you read my discussions? what a pile of balony! if that does not send you to the land of ZZZzzzz then it will have you turning to the bottle!!! just kidding, hope you get to sleep soon. try thinking of tranquil things. that is what i do. i picture my self on the beaches of st lucia, azure seas lapping on my feet as the sun rests on my body lulling me into a calm sleep..........i need to go lie down now!

Hello ,I also have this problem . I have just looked over the responses above and have learned a lot But I still want to tell you my own method to get rid of that problem. That is to listen to foreign language English is not my mother tongue yetI have to learn it so every night when I cannot fall asleep I'll listen to English.It does work well. By the way,according to the ancient Chinese medicine book the best period of time for sleep is the 11a.m. - 1p.m. and 11p.m.-1a.m. Wish it would can help you

I slept from one thirty to five in the afternoon and when I went to bed at almost twelve, I could not fall asleep until after two in the morning. I have often done the same thing. Sometimes I'll nap for awhile in the late afternoon and then have trouble sleeping. I've often found that a glass of warm milk or bread slice helps me sleep. Putting a little bit of food on the stomach causes the blood to rush away from the brain and to the stomach for digestion. Then you won't feel like thinking cause you will be digesting!

Hi Williamjisir. I watch TV or a movie the minute I lie down to bed and set the timer of the TV to sleep. That way I tend to sleep and dont forget to turn of the tv. So i guess it helps me in getting a sleep.

yeah ,i sometimes have the same problem like yours,these two days i always sleep early at night but just a few minutes later i 'll wake up ,then it will take me a hours to fall a sleep,maybe listening to some music or read sth on your bed will help,but the most important thing you should do is that have a good habit of sleeping.

I try to make myself lay as still as possible, and do long deep breaths, most of the times that works for me, unless I am having a serious bout with insomnia in which case there is really nothing I can do, so I usually look around the internet.

hello,my dear friend,i also have this experience before.one day,because i have done lof of works.so i am so tired that moment. and later that time i have been asleep on that afternoon for several hours.as a result, i can't sleep till 1:00 at night when i feel very tired.i think it is a bad experience. good luck to you.
