If you buy one of those Weight Loss Entrees at the store

be it Weight Watchers or another kind, is that all you have to eat, that is, is it the complete meal, or can you combine it with a salad, that is, the lettuce, green onions broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, etc. plus the salad dressing, that is the oil and vinegar type? We were at Superstore a couple of weeks ago, and we were thinking of getting some. Now my husband said, seeing the points, that you just buy the entree and it is your complete meal, no soup, no salad, just that alone and you have a multivitamin.
Now said it does not sound right (and besides there are multivitamins and THERE are MULTIVITAMINS) that you are expected to have a salad or a soup or both alone with the entree.
So if you buy one of those entrees, Weight Watchers or Stouffers Light, or whatever, do you have it alone or include a salad along with it?

I think you can have a salad with your entree. I buy the cheaper ones, and I will usually have one of those with a fruit and that pretty much fills me up for lunch. If you do weightwatchers, you can eat anything you want, just watch the points.. if you're not doing weight watchers and you are trying to actively lose weight I would suggest pairing the entree with a small salad until your stomach shrinks and you can eat the meal alone without being hungry. Thats what I had to do!

That sounds like a good idea. I have not bought any yet but I have used those weight control bars and they always suggested I eat fruit or some raw vegetables with them, but they were designed for lunch not dinner.

I have tried almost every meal. The only one I didnt like was the roasted potatoes one and the mac and cheese. Blech!! All other ones are GREAT!! Love the fettucine and brocolli and the ziti marinara.. the rice and beans, angel hair pasta, bowtie pasta.. yum yum yum! Much better than any other frozen meal I have tasted, and the sodium content is within reasonable limits.

Oh and.. most entrees are between 3-6 points, sometimes 7 but that is pretty reasonable.

I happen to be a great salad lover. I cannot see not adding any salad, or some fruit. As long as it is not those creamy dressings. If you are following weight watches, salads usually give zero points and if you do not take a multi-vitamin supplement, you may need it and even if you do.

I beleive it would be up to the person if the so called meal fills ya up why add more to make youto full.
and any processed food isnt good for ya anyhow dont care if they say diet on it.
and ya take vits any how but if I wanteded a salad to go with it I would make a salad.

I doubt an entree like that would fill me up, but adding a salad that does not add points, and little calories and being healthy would, and it would not add inches to my waistline. I also love salads and I cannot having a meal without one. But I was interested in if one bought one of those Weight Watcher entrees, whether they were supposed to be eating alone or with a salad, that is if one wanted to lose weight.

Fruits and Vegetables like salad are good weight watchers. There are different components that a multivitamins have and those of foods that we buy which are both important to our health. Try eating at Subway their foods are nutritious and are weight watchers.

The meals are meant to be entire meals. I personally like the Weight watchers "smart ones" Peppersteak. It is really, really good.
Even though it is a complete meal, it's okay to add veggies and even salad... just watch the salad dressing as that is a huge source of calories from fat. That is what will get you, not the veggies.
When losing weight, or being on a diet, don't deprive yourself. Have some things that you like, just in moderation.
Also keep in mind that eating foods high in protein and fiber will make you feel fuller, longer. Eat slowly, it takes 20 minutes or so to get the signal from your brain that you are full.

I believe in the six small meals a day, so I could eat a salad or some veggies and fruit as a snack. I was wondering about the vitamins and minerals.

I believe it's always good to take a multivitamin lifestyle change or not. It makes sure you get the required vitamins and minerals your body needs, right?

Thanks for the best response. I also am a firm believer in 4-6 small meals a day; that is the way that the body is meant to function.
As far as vitamins and minerals, it's never a bad idea to take a multi-vitamen, or other supplements. The only caveat here to make sure you don't overdo it with things that could be dangerous such as iron. But that is not very likely to happen.
So yes, by all means take vitamins as well.

I don't think there's any law that says you can't eat what you want.
If you're following points or something, you should be able to tell by what's on the box how many points something is, and can have something else with it (or not!) based on that.

Well actually in Weigh WAtchers you have to follow the point system and if the entree contains the points for the day, you have to eat something that does not have points. If I eat what I want, I will be indulging in cheesecake all the time and there will go my weight up again.

I buy a meal called Michelina. It is very low calorie and low fat, and I always will eat a good soup, or a salad or a piece of fruit with it.It is just an entree, sometimes with rice or pasta. I try to have calorie free beverages, or lowfat milk as well. It is just healthy.

We carry Michelina up here and we did have one, but my husband does not buy any entrees unless they is a sale on them. I have to make them myself. When I make a pasta or rice dish, I will make a salad as well. And I will drink either green tea or herb tea, and sometimes water or coffee. I usually drink the milk in the morning with breakfast. Sometimes we will make a soup, but I make Minestrone and they are very filling you just need a salad with it.

the correct meaning of entree is before the meal or entrance which is the direct translation, when you order an entree in the restaurant it is an appetizer,
however for meals it is just part of a meal, you can still have a salad, now I havent bought weight watchers in years but it used to say serve with a salad.

The restaurants I go to, it is the second meaning. And usually when I order something it says a choice of salad or soup, so I guess the same thing would apply if you pick up one of those entrees at Safeway,Superstore, or Loblaws, or wherever. I tried Weight Watchers point system for a while, but it did not work for me as I got very hungry and I would cheat. Now I am using an appetite supresent and so far, I am still not hungry and for the first time, I was full for supper.

I think salads are usually "freebies" as long as you have lo-cal dressing or fat-free dressing. I don't know how the whole points thing works, I usually do calories so that wouldn't be much of a problem for me. But, I also think home-made stuff is better for you (less added preservatives and chemicals) so I try not to do the prepared stuff too often...

Yeah, you really have to read the ingredients on the stuff to see what you're getting. Sugars aren't too bad if you're exercising because your body will burn that off before it's stored fat. I just try not to go overboard most of the time.

I make my own entrees, but sometimes we do get a pizza or a lasagna once in a while. There are just the two of us, so we have to be careful. We buy lasagna and my husband thinks a family sized meal is for a family of two, not a family of four or more. I usually put some of mine away for the next day or the day after. Cannot eat all of that at one time. I usually use the low carb dressing but I heard that they add sugar to the low-cal dressings and that does not help.

I've never attempted a Weightwatchers' Diet, but are the contents and serving suggestions not included on the packaging. That is, the number of points the entree contains, and then, can you not calculate what you can add vegetable or salad wise to your meal in order to keep within your daily allowance?
That's how I would do it anyway. An entree is not a complete meal... it's just a starter, really, so you must be able to bulk it out to make it a proper, main course meal.
Brightest Blessings.

There are included, but I wanted to find out if the entree was supposed to be eaten alone without salad or with salad. It did not matter how many points, because according to Weight WAtchers, leafy green lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onions, celery and carrots do not have any points. So I could have some entree with ten points, and I could have a couple of dinner plates of salad and unless I put on creamy dressing or high calorie dressing, the salad points will be zero.

Oh we are not speaking of following the directions. I checked them and it said nothing about "you are allowed a salad" or "this is the only thing, you cannot add anything else' it said it was an entree and did give a list of the points and the ingredients. I was asking, whether they allow a salad or not. I said, they did, my husband said, they don't. They might have to open the package and see a paper inside with 'SALAD recommended," but that would mean we would have had to buy and open the package and I am not going to buy something just for curiosity's sake.

I eat them alone. But, usually am still hungry. Eating a salad with them is a very good idea. Plus you would have the extra benefit of more natural vitamins. I'm going to try that. Maybe with the salad I will be full and not be snacking so much.

I was thinking of the snacking part myself. I do get a bit too hungry just to not eat just the Weight Watchers Entree. I know that I snack a lot and part of it is because I am not full enough so having a salad with one of those entrees would make sure that I do not eat too much.

I usually buy the WW meals to eat for lunch. This is the only thing I would eat on my lunch hour, but I did take some other snacks to eat on my other breaks. The only exception was the WW pizzas, I would usually take a small salad to eat with that.

I have not bought the Weight Watch meals, but it would be good for a change since I cannot find a way to make something similar and estimate the points. Math including calculation was not my strong point. I love salads and so they would go with anything. It makes the meal more complete.

Yes one of those meals has all the vitamins you need for that meal, but it is not enough in quantity to fill a person so adding a salad or some veggies is a good way to fill you. I was on weight watchers many years ago, about 20, and I lost over 60 lbs. but since then I have slowly put back about 40 lbs. of it. I am moving next week to another province and one of my goals to start my life over again, is to go back on weight watchers and lose those 40 lbs. I have gained back. I will not be going to the meetings because I don't need to spend money on going to them when I know how to follow the diet. I know things have changed since then, but I will do it the way it used to be since it worked for me then. So I will be buying the weight watcher meals again, for my supper, and the weight watchers desserts, for the chocolate I love and will miss otherwise. But for my morning meal I am going to do the slim fast shake thing and for my lunch I am going to do the slim fast bar thing, with some veggies and fruit and diet soft drink. I have it all planned out and I hope to lose those 40 lbs. in about 6 months and I really think I can do it this way. Give me your luck and prayers on this one, please.

That sounds like a good idea. I think that if you just have the Weight Watcher entrees, you will still feel hungry, so having a salad would help. Oh and quit the diet soft drink, I heard they contain fruitcose that is not that good. Maybe regular juice, water, green tea, or herb tea would be better. I did try some of those diet bar meal substitutes and they were a help. I am trying to lose weight, I find it easier when there are no events to go to. But I decided to not count pounds lost, but inches lost. I figure if my waist gets down then I would have lost the pounds and my clothes will be looser. Good luck and I am praying for you to succeed.

I'm sure that each person's answer to this question will be different based on the type of diet or weight-loss program that they are using. I am doing the WEight-Watchers points program (actually an older point program of theirs, not the newest one). I lost 50 pounds doing this a few years ago and then fell off the wagon and gained it back. I am in the process of losing again and have lost 30 pounds. When I use one of the pre-made frozen meals, I always add a salad. By adding a salad, I am getting some of my 5 servings of veggies in and not spending any points! I do have to count points for my salad dressing but I have one that is only 1 point for 2 tablespoons. Those doing a low carb diet might answer your question differently as they forego some salad ingredients due to their carb content.

I tried the Weight Watchers point system and got very very hungry. What I need was something that made me feel so full I could not eat another drop. Anyway I figure that a salad is what you need, and I love salads more than just having vegetables and up here in Manitoba, the only cheap fruit are oranges, bananas, and apples. So we have to wait for the other fruit to come in on season.

No No,your hubby is wrong..I have been a weight watcher for years,it started out for me to lose a few pounds and now it is just a way of eating healthly...At weight watchers you have a certain amount of points you can have each day..I can only have 20 points during the week, but on Friday,Saturday & Sunday you have an extra 11 points for each of those days..I have eaten the weight watchers dinners, and yes you can have salad,& fruit along with the dinner...The whole idea is to stay within your points..Salad has zero points, you will have to add for the dressing, fruit usually has i point each, like an orange 1 pt, small apple 1pt... a banana is 2 pts..I get lots of food to eat on weight watchers...

Hello Suspensful, actually your husband is wrong (sorry to say). My mom is on weightwatchers and she gets like 32 points I think. I believe most of those meals are around 5-10 points each depending on the meal. So obviously if we divide 32 by three meals that is a little more than 10 points each meal. I know she likes the Healthy Choice Fish meal and I think that's around 6 points or so. Therefore she can eat 4 more points with her meal. I believe she eats a cheese stick (2 points), light bread (1 point), banana (2 points), and/or small bag of light Baked Lays chips (3points). She doesn't like salad, but if you eat one without the cheese and courtons and a light dressing I belive it would be around 2 points or so. If you get some light soups they are around 0 to 2 points per cup.

I like salad and I cannot see going without. I did try Weight Watchers, but I still felt hungry and I figure that if I ate a low cal or low point entry, then well my husband felt that you could not eat salads with the entrees, and since I love salads, that makes me feel much better. So I was right, not him.

Entrees are usually starters. That is, they get your stomach working before your main meal. I say it is upto you what you do with your meals. If you want to have a salad or bread with it, then go for it. Dressing and all, gotta have some indulgences!
I have a reasonably big appetite, and when buying the frozen meal types, I always make sure there is bread or extra veggies to go with it as the meals alone never seem to be big enough and are more sauce than food.

In Canada, we call starters, appetizers. Here entrees are the main course, like roast beef and potatoes, spaghetti with meatballs, Chicken Divan. When you buy the frozen entrees that is the Weight Watcher or low calorie kind, eating bread with it is defeating the purpose. So we have salads with them as long as you do not put on creamy salad dressings.

You can eat all of the leafy green veggies you want in any given day. And, the same pretty much goes for other fresh veggies. Just watch the dressing- a little goes a long way...and adds on the fat and calories very quickly. Same goes for cheese- a very small amount adds alot of fat.

That is what I thought. I do not like creamy dressings but I do love cheese the older the better. I find that with the strong cheese like very old cheese, I do not need that much, but if the cheese is mild or medium, I will take more of it. So if I take the light cheese, and their old cheese tastes like regular medium, i will have to take more to acquire the same taste.
