Hi. I work on and offline about 15 hours a day. I do alot of typing at Mylot and work alot of other sites as well each day. I am wandering if all of this typing actually burns alot of calories? Does anyone know?
I cannot find time to exercise but if this will work just the same in a sense as far as bruning some calries, please let me know.
How can we figure out how many calories we burn while typing? Can we use one of those clickers they use for walking? Would that work?

hi i don't think typing burns any calories ... even if it does its negligible amount so do be bothered about that.
But i know a trick .... see when u sit if u sit straightly you will lose calories ... of course you will not sit straight all the day ... and when you try to you will automatically start to bend.
Here is the solution ...
Tie a belt tight enough to your abs so that whenever you bend its will be uncomfortable so you will straighten up.
Do it for an hour or two as u like.(even more you can do if you have patience)

Yeah. Typing does burn some calories. Darkwing gave us a link on the first page of my discussion so we can figure up just how many for ourselves. I try to stay mvong while sitting here by moving my legs around and up and down. I never just sit here. I always have alot to do around the home too.

I doubt it, they tell you not be seated all day but to get up and move around for exercise, typing is a seated behaviour so it really doesn't burn that many calories

yes I said we burn some we burn calories just breathing but to lose weight,
I checked several websites for you and they all say the same, it takes 3500 calories to burn off one pound,
and remember if you eating all day you can't say well in a month I burned off that much to lose a pound, you have to count all your food calories that go into your body

Yes. We do burn calories while typing. I never sit here for two hours at a time though because I always have alot of work to get done around the house also. Check out page one and see the link that Darkwing provided for us to calculate how many calories we do burn by typing.

That is what I always thought too but was wandering just how many for typing. Darkwing posted a link for us on page one of this discussions and you can calculate it for yourself. It asks about each individual person with their age, weight, etcetera.

It will make little difference to me how many calories I use when typing at my keyboard because I always eat more when I'm indoors.
I worked in offices for many years and when I changed career I lost weight because I was no longer sitting at a desk all day. When I ended that career I had to find other ways to keep fit and now I try to burn calories, away from my computer, as much as I can during the day.

I try to work at the computer and get other things done around the house too but alot of times i am sitting her working and always thinking about food, it seems. I need to find something to do to stop thinking about food while working at home online. Maybe I will try to chew more gum again.

Why?!!! only 29 calories per hour?! so if we sit around all day max we could burn is about 300-400 calories depending on how much you sit around and move your fingers! he he
maybe in these 15 hours that you sit in front of the computer, you need to get up once in a while... get some water and then go back do some more typing. he he

LOL. I don't sit for 15 hours and type. I am a wife and a mother and have lots of other things to do while I am working online. Typing does burn a few calories and that is nice to know because I need all of the exercise I can get and earn all at the same time with all of my websites.

God, I hope so! lol
Wouldn't that be the thing?
I wouldn't imagine that it burns that many calories as we are usually sitting down while doing it.
Have you ever tried moving your legs up and down while at the computer or squeezing your buns together to get a little workout back there?
You could even put weights on your ankles while lifting your legs.
I have done both if I am on too long.
I know it sounds crazy, but it does get the blood circulating.

Darkwing gave us a calculator to use above. Try it out with your very own information. We do burn calories while typing. I don't have any ankle weights but i do try to move my legs while sitting here before I run out of energy after working on and offline for 15 hours a day LOL. Whewww. It doesn't sound crazy to me. I do it myself too.

Haha! I don't have any idea. My own experience would say, maybe. Last month, I started working just in front of my laptop for more hours than I used to. After and before work, I'm just in front of my computer. Guess what? I slimmed down. Usually, I put my laptop on the higher table and when I work on it for hours, I seldom stand up and walk in place. My goal everyday is at least a thousand step. Maybe that worked. You can try it!

Visit the first page of my discussion. Darkwing gave us all a site to go to calclulate what we burn for each person and job we do. I have a desktop computer so it is hard for me to stand and work with it.

Never thought of that before, burning calories typing. If so, probably very few. But there are exercise you can do while sitting at your pc. One would be leg lifts alternating lifting your legs up while sitting in front of your pc.

Yeah. I have done those exercises too while sitting here. Darkwing posted a link for all of us to use on the first page. It is a calculator for each person and each job you do. check it out if you want to.

The figure I have seen is that we only burn a 102 calories per hour of typing. It is not a big number at all. I don't dare drink a can of pop; it would undermine all my progress. It is just too bad I have yet to figure out how to type while riding the exercise bike.

That would be hard to accomplish at least for me anyhow but I have used a thighmaster which is great for toning those thighs and arms and easy to do and to do while pages or loading or searching. Also is you have a office chair that swivels then you can hold onto desk and swish back and forth it is supposed to help the waistline, and while pages are loading you can sit in chair and do stretch and toe touches.. it all adds up though and does burn calories. The thighmaster is a good investment. also to tone arms wear weight bands for wrist that burns calories..

Yeah. Darkwing posted a link that takes us to a site that tells us how many calories we burn while typing. I guess it all dpends on how fast we type also. I always try to get up and move around throughout the night while working online. there is always other things to be done around the home also.

Breathing alone burns calories but not much! And typing, yes.. but its all part of the normal activities one does. Unfortunately in order to burn extra calories is to find time to do some rigorous exercise, even if its for 10 minutes, better than nothing! I totally understand how hard it is to find time.

Of course you'll burn calories for typing. You burn calories will doing nothing but breathing!
Will you burn a LOT of them? I don't think so ...

That is a very good question. I wander also how fast we have to type and does it have to be steady or can there be breaks in between while moving on to the next page or task. Darwing gave us a calculator above. Choose the activity and put in your own information and calculate it for yourself. It is different for each of us with age etc.

I am sure that typing cannot burn too many calories but there are other things you can do while sitting at your computer to AVOID gaining extra weight from just sittting around. Drinking tons of water as someone else suggested is one thing, as well as working your muscles, squeeze and release them over and over again will help with your muscle tone and burn a few calories also
