So I am downstairs in the office, working. My hubby arrived home so down I went. Daughter is in the kitchen with daddy. He is reading the paper or on the laptop, I dk. My child gets it in her head to "cook" for daddy like mommy and her aunt do. My daughter is tall for her age, she goes to the counter, gets a piece of bread. Goes in the fridge gets out a ketchup packet(we keep the left overs from ff restaurants)opens it up, smear it on the bread. Goes into the fridge, retrieves a slice of cheese. Puts it on the bread. Fold it, and proceeds to put it in the microwave. Now she has never used the microwave before. But she has seen us all use it. She must have hit the 30 second button. Anyway I was down stairs. I hear "mommy, mommy, I am coming down to tell you about my recipe!." She tells me this^ And then says "daddy ate the entire thing, my recipe." I would have had a nibble. Hubby says it was interesting, gooey. It's called the ketchup sandwich, lol what have your kids"created"?

I think one should always try the creations of their child .. if you can possibly stomach it. I would suppose that a ketchup and cheese sandwitch might pull off a taste similar to a sweet vinegary pizza. The gooeyness of it might have been a downfall, however.

I hope she at least took the plastic off of the cheese before nuking it. It was very creative of her and very brave of her daddy to eat the whole thing. As much as I love my kids I don't think I would be able to eat a ketchup and cheese sandwich if they made it. My son is not much of the creative type when it comes to food. The most he has created is a sandwich with butter, butter spray, and mayo. He sometimes adds parmesan cheese.

ohh, that is too cute! I bet she was so proud of herself! My girls decided to bake me a cake one day... from scratch! Now I had a box of cake mix right in the cupboard, but they didn't see it... They realized they didn't have a few things, so they either didn't put it in, or substituted other things for it... Like they put baking soda in place of baking powder! lol! Needless to say, the cake did not taste very good at all! But they were so proud of themselves!

Emily used to make the most interesting breakfasts. It has been so long ago that I cannot remember what they were except interesting. We used to eat 'ketchup' sandwiches as children. Ketchup and bread, fold and eat. We didn't have alot of money and mom was still trying to keep our interest. LOL

I came downstairs one morning to find my then 3 yr old son taking eggs out of the fridge to make me some breakfast. Yes, the eggs ended up on the floor - what a mess! I remember another story that my brother told. His wife was either in the hospital having his baby sister or had just had her and was still laid up at home for a bit, I can't remember. Anyway, young Al thought he would help and took couple of potatoes out of the bag and put them on the burner, yes, directly ON the burner and turned it on. He was cooking potatoes for supper!

Yes! This was way back in oh, 1983 or 84, but I do believe that's what I used.

Well nothing edible has been produced as yet but my nephew enjoys cooking his own food (onion trash, bits and pieces of this and that which is salvaged from the scraps of whatever it is Im cooking). He takes out plates and uses them as his pot and he claims a section of the counter as his stove. He proceeds to tell me how much he is going to finish cooking before me or to tell me just what I wasnt doing right with my pot, I ought to stir it or season this way or that. And all this after he watches and uses back my techniques. He has only turned six on March 20 but he is one busy body. He wants to mix his own drink and remove the shell from his boiled egg so I let him and boy does he love it. I look forward to tasting his first edible cooked meal. I know he'll just glow with pride. Nothing beats watching kids accomplish something for the first time and enjoying their glee at doing so.

I am glad that he ate it and made her feel as if she did something special. I am sure she was glowing!! Hopefully she won't make it for him every day, thinking he really liked her cooking.

lol how cute sounds yummy lol. At least she tried to help you out with the cooking. My daughter is only 2 right now but I'm sure when she can reach the microwave she will try and put some stuff in there. She always wants to help cook now. She will say I try I try.

What a sweet story! Her Daddy was really sweet to actually eat it. My Dad was like that. I made cornbread once when I was little. I had no idea how to make it, but that didn't stop me. I made it in a muffin tin. They were hard as brick-bats! My Dad, who was picky, ate one and told me I did a good job. My Mom, on the other hand, wouldn't eat one. lol My daughter made a ketchup and peanut butter sandwich. Fortunately, we didn't have a microwave at the time. lol She was so proud of her creation, though. They are so cute when they think they've done something "grown up."

I used to live on that! It is so nice, and I like to do it under the grill too, but best not give your daughter any ideas!! My son created his own sandwich once, it consisted of cheese spread and jam, he insisted it was delicious, but I could tell by the look on his face that it was precisely the opposite. I know he is my son and I love him dearly but there was no way I was trying it!

My children have not created anything yet, being as though they are both still young it will come. I think that it is so sweet that she did this and it is sweet that he ate it too.

That's so cute, I think I would have ate the whole thing to, it's so important to kids when they do things like this. Sounds like she has a great dad. By the way how old is your daughter?

I love your story. Your husband is a very nice daddy. I don't think I would have eaten it. It does not sound very yummy, but you say he like it, huh? It's too cute. I can't wait to hear what see "cooks" for him next.

Like one of the other posters, my three year old son tried to make eggs once. He got out the frying pan; had it sitting on the floor and was dropping whole eggs into it. Some of them made it to the pan and others didn't. I remember making something from a recipe. It said, "1 tbsp soda". I had no idea what they were talking about, so I put 1 tbsp of baking soda and 1 tbsp of Pepsi. I wanted to make sure all my bases were covered! My little brother had a "special recipe" for french toast. He would put 2 slices of bread in the toaster. Then he would soak them in syrup. As for the ketchup sandwich. Your husband must have an iron stomach! There is no way I could have choked it down!

The first time my children decided they were going to make lunch for me, I hesitated, but finally decided to give in and let them give it a try. They made tuna fish sandwiches, but for some reason, they enjoy adding mustard to theirs as well. Now, I don't mean mustard on the bread for the sandwich. I'm talking about mustard added to the mix so the tuna fish is yellow. It was a little rough, but I ate it. At least they made me a small sandwich. Luckily they have learned how to cook much better now.

THAT is just too cute!! I don't recall my kids making any creations, so I can't add to the discussion in that respect- but I got a chuckle out of your story. Thanks for sharing!
