So Far So Good...

Well, the long awaited day has finally arrived. I’ve been worried about this since January and it turns out that so far I’ve had nothing to worry about. My Dad, Stepmom, sister and her two girls have all come down for a visit for the week. I was a nervous wreck b/c I haven’t seen my sister since she was 11 (it’s been like over 20 years). We don’t really know each other and there have been some problems between us in the past but it seems things are all right now.
They showed up this morning at my oldest Brother’s house and he brought them over to my place. They brought me a scrapbook full of pictures of when I was a kid and my grandparents, my Dad and everybody. It is really nice! Some of the pictures I don’t even remember but I love it. I hope this week goes all right…it really is nice having them visit.
I’ve never been one for scrapbooking but I think I might give it a try after seeing the one they made for me. I’d like to make one from when I lived with my Mom with my Brothers all in it.
Do you ever worry about something for a long time and then it turns out that you didn’t need to b/c everything turned out all right? Have you ever tried scrapbooking?
Wish Me Luck!!

I'm a lot like you twoey and yes, i would have been worrying myself sick over this situation.
My darling father in law always used to tell me that I worried too much. And he was right. I 've always found that I needn't have worried anything like that I do. But I also think that by worrying so much I prepare myself for the worst possible outcome. When it doesn't happen the feeling of relief or happiness (like you feel now because the visit is going so well) is simply wonderful. When something goes wrong that I'm not prepared for it is the most awful sick feeling of fear for me. I hate that.
Brightest blessings to you.
I don't know much about scrapbooking but I think it is very time consuming.....you won't have time to make my quilt....lol.

I forgot to make a comment about the scrapbooking. I have made photo albums for family members, not quite a scrapbook. My sister is into scrapbooking and likes it alot.
I have worrried about things before and then have them turn out ok. Thats human nature to do that. I am so happy for you.

I am glad everything worked out well with you meeting your family. You haven't seen your sister for 20 years? Oh my how did that happen..I would never not see my sisters and brothers. I would die missing them..lol..well you should make time for lost time so you can bond. Even a phone call or letters would do. I communicate with some of my sisters and brothers through ym and email. And every sunday they are mostly at my parents house so whoever wants to drop by we can see a brother or a sister or two there... I have 3 brothers and 5 sisters. And every now and then we try to see each other.

It isn't over yet, lol, so I'll hold the thought that things will continue to go well. You know what happens with fish and house guests after 3 days? But if everyone has activities to keep busy and space to keep apart you will survive this. Have fun!

Well, thankfully they are not my houseguests but rather my Brother's...I learned my lesson with that. Hopefully I'll get to see them again and they want to come by and meet my Hubby so that will be fun. I can honestly say that Hubby is the only man that my Dad has ever met since I first started dating. He never met my first husband. :)

Hey that's great! Yes often I have worried about stuff that was silly and things turned out okay. My husband says I'm a worry wart. I have never tried scrapbooking. My mom burnt most of our family pics when she was sick. She has bipolar and wasn't on her meds. It is very popular around here though. I also don't like seeing pics of myself. One of my cousin brings her scrapbook to the family reunion and we love looking at it. She's so good at that sort of thing.

I also worry about EVERYTHING and the slightest thing will upset me to no end. It's too bad about your pics although I kind of know how you feel. My Mom doesn't have hardly any pics of us when we were kids either b/c she moved so much that they were lost along the way. I've never had a pic of my Dad's Mom and now I do along with one of my Dad's Grandparents (my great-grandparents). I can't get over what a precious little girl I was LOL...Big brown eyes and tons of blonde hair!

I think that is great. Just enjoy! I think it is human nature to over think things and worry. I do it all the time when our kids come to visit. Bring you the pictures was a great idea and took a lot of thought to put it together. Hope it goes well and just stay cool no matter what happens.

It probably is something that is just a part of us...more in some than in others. It seems that my Stepmom and her daughter are both big on scrapbooking so maybe they can guide me along a little.

Yes, sometimes we worry about so many things and at the end everything is okay. Our mind travels faster than us. Well, I'm happy that everything is turning out okay for you. I started a scrapbook for my son who plays varsity baseball. He has been playing baseball since he was 6 years old and he has become an excellent player.

I know last summer when I saw my Dad for the first time in 23 years that I was so nervous I was vomiting and when I got to Branson where I was meeting him...It was fabulous!! I only got about 4 hours to visit with him (much too short) but it was great. This time they are here for a whole week so hopefully I'll get to see more of all of them!!

That's a very good sign that it has started off being good. Very nice of them to make a scrapbook for you as well. A very good icebreaker idea! I haven't done much with scrapbooking. I like to do things on the computer more so than anything else.

Yes, it is a great start and hopefully is a sign of how things will be this week. I love the scrapbook and am going to have it scanned and put on disc so it can go into my safe for safekeeping.

Oh yeah..My niece is getting married this month and I will be seeing people I have not seen in many years..I am very nervous..
Also an Uncle that I heard was a good Uncle until he married his wife and then we no longer saw them, they were always put down as not liking the rest of the family..Well about 3 years ago, I got in touch with a cousin I have only heard about that lived in another state. goes and visits this Uncle every year. So I set it up, to where I would meet this cousin at the Uncles house..Talk about nervous..I felt like I may have been going into a lions den..But they were very nice, not at all like what my sisters told me. I would like to get everyone together again, along with my sister and get to know each other for once..

It is funny how one person's perspective of someone can influence you. My oldest Brother made the comment the other day that my Dad's family all thought I was a psychopath when I was a kid b/c I went to counceling and it really upset me. Turns out that was just his views...not everyone.

I am glad it went so well. Yes, there are things that i have worried about, and find that sometimes worry sort of "makes" things turn out badly because people end up reacting to your nervousness and you tend to get upset at the smallest things

that's good to hear everything is going well! I don't usually worry about much because usually even if isn't good it will still turn out all right in the end.
I should love scrapbooking because i love collaging and gluing stuff together but I'm not too big on the "cutesy" kind of things...If I had more time I would probably make all kinds of neat collage books...but since I don't really have the time I guess it will have to wait until the kids are older :)

I've had a few times that I've worried and it was well founded but not always. For the most part either it never happens or it turns out great.
I'm going to give scapebooking a try and see how it goes. I figure I'll make one of the times I've lived with my Mom and that way I'll have one of each.

oh yes I am the queen of worry or I used to be, but I am much better now at not worrying, I have to go to the doctor in a few minutes, to renew my disability and I am worried about that, but that is stupid, I don't see why he wouldn't renew it, but then you never know.
