I got a request to be a friend to this person. Hasn't even made the first post and has over 600 friends. Something is wrong with this picture.
This goes to show that lots of people accept friends just to be accepting them because look at this

(I do have to say there is a bit of a glitch here, it says last logged on 7 days ago, but requested friends 5 hours ago)
Half of the people that accepted his friendship, didn't even look at the profile before accepting being his friend.

I have to admit, I look at a profile page before accepting a friend. I want someone who is going to be active for one thing. I guess that is why I still have about 30 request that I've never responded to waiting. And the reason is, they have requested my friendship and then never log on again!
So have you had a friend request from him? Did you accept? Did you decline? If you accepted his friendship did you look at the profile first. If you haven't gotten a friend request from him what is your standard procedure in accepting a friend? Do you first look at the profile page or do you just hit the accept button? Please share, looking forward to reading your responses to this discussion.

He requested your friendship too, huh? I got the same request and I am just like you. I check out everyone first and if they haven't responded to one of my discussions then I deny the request. It does seem fishy!

I guess that's why I have about 30 sitting in pending. I don't accept them but I haven't deleted them either.

Wow ! I just went in to check and this guy has 3009 friends just over 3 weeks. I believe that this guy is basically in here for getting friends in way that he can blast out messages to promote his stuff or spam them. He only had 1 post and if you notice he has a website that invites people to join and make money.
So, from the way i look at it .... it's basically trying to get free databases by making friends with these people here and spam them.

I just checked once again, the two discussions that he has started was deleted. He has over 5500 friends and over 60 comments on his profile.
I have to agree with you the reason that he is here.

I do not check profiles as I like to give everyone a fair chance. Just cause they havent made a post yet does not mean I cant be there friend. I do go thru my friends ever so often and delete inactives.

Out of eight pages of friends probably only a page worth is active, but I haven't ever deleted any friends. I wish we could arrange our friends by order of activity or something like that would be nice.

I accept everyone b/c honestly I don't care how active they are. I figure everyone that wants to be my friend is fine with me b/c that means they are more likely to find my discussions and more likely to respond and earn me some money. If they aren't active, it doesn't bother me b/c I just never see discussions from them.

I got a friend request too. I always look at the profiles before adding. I'm not very critical of any of the folks here as far as adding them, but I'm not interested in someone who comes here only for trawling for sign ups on their programs. He must have been one active little bugger when he was on here seven days ago.

So you got a request too! Yes he had to be one very busy person requesting and already have that many people accept being his friend.

Yeah, I think that's all he was trying to do is promote his website, especially since all his website is a place to enter your name and email addy.

Well, I know when someone requests to Add me as a friend, I am never one to accept them right away unless I know they are really active in here. I will usally also check out a New discussion or two that they have started to make sure I can relate back with them as well. It is always better to accept someone you can relate with and you know will respond back to you as well instead of adding them to only have to delete them in 2 months or so as well.

I have kept my eye on this person since I started this discussion. And it has been awhile since I checked. But this time when I checked, his entire account has been deleted. Though I don't think he meant any harm, he shouldn't have done what he did.

I just hit the accept button and go from there. I have dialup and it takes to long to load their profile page, especially if they have alot on it. I just accept them and hope for the best from them. I have only met one bad apple so far by doing that. I have been spammed by a few though.

Since I have made this post, he has stated in his profile that he set a program up that anyone that signed up automatically was sent a friend invite. It makes me wonder why mylot don't have it set up that an administrator don't have a program set up that they aren't automatically added. And why they don't deprogram his.

Hello terri0824,
I did get a friend request from this yet-to-start member a couple of days ago. I went to see the profile and I made same observations as yourself. I kept it waiting for a day to see if he starts a discussion or respond to another discussion. From the looks of it, it appears that he is adding people so as they may follow the link to earn money. I declined his request finally, but if really 'starts' here and resend me request, I'll consider it.
I never requested someone for friendship just because I thought that someone may accept me just out of courtesy rather than with real interest. On the other hand, I used to accept each and everyone who requested friendship with me just because one never knows what great personality one may miss by denying friendship. I did use to go to their profiles just to know them a little better!
I changed my policy very recently because of some reasons. I am not accepting new friends now, as such, unless someone is already known very well to me. I denied first ever friends requests yesterday, one of this said member and another of a malicious user. I have been receiving friends request but I am very careful now in accepting them.
Similarly, I have never deleted anyone from my friend's list ever, except for a couple or so users because of their continuous spamming and flaming to other users. But, I am changing this policy too and am deleting very few people from my friend's list.

I'll admit I just hit the accept button without looking at the profile. I don't generally even bother looking save for instances where it's someone I've seen kicking around the chunks of the site I frequent. I generally just hit accept, makes me look more popular after all. ;p

I guess I have never been one to check profiles when someone requests me as a friend. I am usually nice and just accept them. I figure it can't hurt anything. I don't understand why someone would go throught the trouble of getting 600 friends and not making any posts though unless they are spamming the friends with private messages with refeal links.

Yeah, something sure doesn't make since why someone would want so many friends. Though his website listed just goes to a page to retrieve your name and e-mail address.

terri0824, I want to know, if we have never added someone into our friend list, can the person suddenly become our friend? I never add this user as my friend back then, but how come he suddenly became my friend?

That is really strange that he became your friend without accepting him being your friend.
I just checked again and he is approaching 7000 friends and has had almost 100 comments on his profile page. He has had several discussions deleted and has posted another one 11 hours ago, so we will have to wait and see if that one will be deleted as well.

well this just goes to show people dont know the mylot way. when We make friends here we should sift them. I have rules, 1 No one without 100 responses
2 no one who doesnt respond to my discussions
3 no one who doesnt launch discussions i would reply to. Finally, no one who's profile says they are 18 male from India
this should sort out the problem
blessed be

This looks familiar hun. Yes I did receive a request from this particular user and the first thing I did was to check out the profile. No discussions but how many friends????? I hit the decline button, after all if the user hasn't bothered to post any discussions or respond to any topics, then I can't see the point.
I always look at the profile before I make a decision whether to accept or decline a request

Oh I get people like him all the time, generally I won't accept anyone with more friends than their postings unless their discussions are very good. With newbies I tend to wait awhile as you're right they log on, see that it's not easy money and you never see them again. To me a friend on here is one that will be seen on your discussions quite a lot, not someone who want kudos because of all the friends they have - it shouldn't work like that!

Hi terri0824 ! I responded to a discussion he had on thurs last week and I asked flat out if he was using a bot to get on every friends list (new users) , and hey presto now I'm back it seems like all his discussions have been removed ! i'm not bothered about earning money but it did look like he was cheating (I think) I'm certain he's hacked/modified something .

Yes, he has set up a program to get friends added to his friends list as soon as they sign up. I think mylot should remove him completely or at least remove the program he set up. I think they have prevented him from posting but that is all they have done.

Yep, I just got a friend request from him, too.
I am guessing that since he is only here to make money for college, that he intends to PM people with the offer, so as not to infringe on mylot guidelines.
I'm only interested in 'friends' for talking to, not for money making, really. I am here to participate in discussions, not solicit people's info for money.
So, yes, I check the profile of someone before accepting a friend request.
He now has almost 3,000 friends and has responded to nothing, and only the 1 post. So it is obvious he is not here to socialize or do any discussions. So I don't know why Mylot hasn't deleted him yet. But I guess someone would have to report him for something. They'll likely catch it at the 3 month mark I guess.

He has a program set up so that anyone that signs up is automatically added as a friend request is how it works. He isn't administration of Mylot.
