I go through socks like crazy. I don't know where half of them even are, to tell you the truth. I'm thinking that the washing machine and dryer REALLY do eat them! The socks that I do have, always manage to get holes in them, right around the pinky toe and the big toe. It's really annoying, and I'm constantly throwing socks away and buying new ones. I keep my toenails clipped, so that's not the problem, I really don't know what it is. Do you find yourself buying new socks all the time, because of holes?

Not because of holes now, but I do have to buy new socks all the time because they go missing all the time! It is the most annoying thing that happens to me, I put them in the washing machine as a pair, take them out of the washing machine as a pair, put them in the tumble dryer as a pair, and when I go to get them out there is always only one and I have hundreds of single socks and never a pair!! How on earth does it happen?

lol My husband has the same problem. He goes through socks like crazy because they're always full of holes. I tease him that his feet must have teeth. It seems like every time I do laundry I have to throw more socks away. If I let him do laundry, they'll inevitably end up back in his drawer.

Start monitoring how much bleach you are putting into your whites. That will eat them up as well. I have the same problem, not only with mine but the kids too. After you bleach your socks so many times, especially when you are heavy handed with the bleach, it will eat away at the fabric. Then we stick our feet in the sock, and the weakest threads are always where we stick our toes so, voile!!! A new hole.

Thanks for the BR!!! Have you noticed any difference now that you are monitoring your bleach usage?

I don't go through socks for myself but my daughter loses them as fast as we buy them! I swear I can find 1 sock in every color of the rainbow but I can never find two that match!! She takes her socks off as soon as we take off her shoes. Then she goes and pulls everyone elses socks off. Nobody is allowed to wear socks because she doesn't like to wear them.

I always wondered where the missing socks went and now I know the washing machine and dryer ate them up.lol I am a woman but I also have that problem of my toes poking holes in mysocks. I have big feet for a woman so maybe thats why. I am due to buy more socks again very soon.

I dont tend to lose socks apart from when one sock gets washed before the other as I forgot to check that they made it in together!! I do find that I have to buy socks regularly as they wear down on the bottom of the heel and where my toes are. My boyfriend does manage to get a few holes in his socks but since he only wears white socks, I throw the holey sock away and keep the other as it comes in handy to make another pair!! It would be nice to know wear the missing socks do go!!!

i seldom wear sock so i don't really experience this problem... my hubby wear socks everyday and i have to wash his socks once every week... yes, most of his socks got holes on them already and he is still wearing them... but i never lose his socks while washing them because i didn't use the dryer... i don't know... a lot of people say that they lose the socks in the dryer... i am fortunate then that i didn't use a dryer... :-)

There is definately a SOCK MONSTER in the Dryer,LOL!!! I put 5 pairs in the washer and the 5 pair make it to the Dryer and I'll be short a sock or two when they come out of the Dryer.....I can't figure it myself, so I blame the DEMON in the Dryer!!LOL!!!

I am always getting holes in the big toe area of my socks. I also seem to rip the back of them fairly often. I hate socks in general, so when they are slipping in my shoes a little I pull them up. After doing that to a pair repeatedly they give up and rip.

no am not doings this more often. my socks can stay long even two years. i don't want my clothes be washed in a washing machine because i am aware what the machine could destroy to my clothes. i pay for a washer to do washing my clothes every now and then.

I think it's universal, and a plot to overthrow us someday. I tend to get the hole in the big toe too, and I absolutely cannot stand when my toe sticks out - it feels so icky. When I match them up after doing laundry, I try to make sure that I don't have two with the little hole that will match up to both big toes. I don't mind if it's near the little toe, because that won't stick out as the big toe is, well, bigger! My sock drawer is getting bare since I've gone through several pair in the last month or so. When they start wearing through on the bottom, off they go to the rag bin!

Ah, I had this problem with the big toes just this morning! I put on a pair of my favorite socks (I've had them forever, and have sewed them a couple of times just to keep them in commission), and I got home from work and pulled off my shoes. There, both of my big toes were poking through EACH SOCK! It drove me nuts, so I ripped them off my feet and tossed them right into the trash, lol. R.I.P. my cute shamrock socks, you will be missed! lmao.
