what would be the first thing that you'll gonna save? i know that most of us will answer that we're gonna save our family first but aside from your family and pets, what would that be? and why?
for me, the first thing that i would save would definitely be my/our clothes then the next one would be my laptop and cellphone and the reason for that is because they have a sentimental value for me so i can't just leave them burning inside the house

I think the only thing in the house I would save if a fire broke out, besides family and pets would have to be my computer if nothing else at least the tower itself. It is something I can't really afford to replace and I use it everyday.

yeah but maybe he isn't talking only about the computer itself. He may have some files that insurance wouldn't cover. OK, there is possibility of backup but what if he keeps it at (burning) home?

Well thats why you should allways get buildings/contents insurance. whats $20 each month compared to possibly paying out $20,000 in the event of a fire.

Hello rhane. I think that the first things that I would take with me are my ID card, bank books and cards, laptop and some necessary, but good-quality clothes that I wear every day if I could carry that many things at one time.

After my family and pets I'd be grabbing my purse and as much of my son's and ex's memories that I could...they've both passed on so I'd want to save as much of what we have left as i could

If my family and I were save I would not risk my life trying to save any possesions as they are all insured and can be replaced, unlike my/families life.
I kind of agree with the other post regarding sentimental items, but im sure if you could talk to the people who had passed away they would not want you to risk harming yourself so that you could get some photo's/prized possesions. After all the best memories of some one are in your heart/head and will never be forgotten.

Family and pets first, but after that, my music. Guitars, digital piano, and my stupidly large cd collection. :-) Yes i realize that there probably would not be time to get it all, but it wouldn't stop me from trying. I would rather burn in the fire by trying to get it all, than survive without at least a good part of it.
Music is the reason why I was put on this earth I think.

I would try to save my computer. Even if I live on 4th floor I would throw some stuff out of window hoping they'll survive the fall to pick them up later. I wouldn't throw a TV but stuff like books and clothes:)

of course the first thing i save will be my personal stuff including my computer but i will see to it that my family is also saving their ow belongings. if the situation worst and you only make a choice between your stuff and family, i would prefer to save my family.

Well, already assuming my family & pets are already outside and away from the fire...
I would grab my purse, Bible, and all of Tiny Tim's estate that I've aquired (for sentimental reasons). The things I have from his estate are already tucked away conveniently in a box. I would also grab any important papers/documents, which I already keep stored in a handy-dandy fire proof lock box under my bed. ...I would remember to grab all of this suff... In a perfect world.
However, in the "real" world that we actually live in, I'd probably run around screaming, "FIRE!" at the top of my lungs like a sweaty, mad woman, banging on every door in the house, shouting and waking family up to get a move on, as the flames lick my feet. THEN... I'd HURRY and grab my bird cage and cat and get the heck out of dodge!
Geez, you've got me thinking... Perhaps I should just start preparing everything right by my bedside at night - every night - before bed from now on, just in case...lol

My family and relatives lost all our property late December last year, and the first instinct they had was to save their family. Sadly, they forgot Twinkle, the yorkie *sad*
Anyway, I recently had a dream about this, and I will share with you what I did in my dream. In my dream, I saw our house starting to burn, and what I did was went upstairs to my dresser drawer and took all my money, because in my mind, we would need it if none of our stuff will be saved. I also remember putting our cellphones, cameras and family pictures inside my bag. That's all I remember, and I would probably save all that besides my family and pet.

We have a very old luggage where we keep all important documents: Birth Certificates, Land titles, etc. If our house caught fire (I do pray this WON'T happen), it'll be the very first thing I will save. It still has some room, so I can put in some clothes and my mom's jewelry (so we can sell them to start anew). The reason why I would save that luggage is because replacing all documents would be one tough job, and I am sure everyone don't want to go through the hassles of reproducing all your important documetns.
Now, if I can still go back and save more, I'd take my scrapbooking bag and my cell phone.

yeah i agree with you. those kind of documents are really hard to reproduce all of our important documents. i also do pray and hope that it won't happen to anyone of us even if i started this discussion

If my house was on fire then id try to save my wallet, phone and any other valuable thing that isnt too bulky like my computer. If i am inside the house while it is burning down then id probably try to put it out before i consider saving myself and any other items, unless the smoke was too suffocating.
