I Hate Video Game Systems: But...

United States

I haven't liked playing video games since the old Nintendo...the very first one they put out. I'd play mainly with my kids. Since then I have felt that video games have become too violent and too difficult for an old fart like me, lol. I just am not that coordinated. However, after seeing my sister in-laws Wii over the weekend and watching the tennis and bowling; I have to say that I really want one. They are so interactive. It would actually make a decent workout too. How many of you have Wii systems or have played on the system? Do you think it is worth the investment? How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking? How much do you use your Wii? What are your favorite Wii games? I look forward to hearing what all you have to share.

Thanks Lakota. I love pogo too, although it has been quite a while since I played. I want the Wii mainly for the games where you move around and get the experience of actually doing the "sport", like bowling or tennis. With pogo you can't be active, but with the Wii you can.

I love the Wii system! Unfortunately we don't have one yet but I play it @ relatives! My fave games are the action games that simulate you really playing.... Tennis is my absolute fave.

The action games are really the only reason I want one. I think it would really add to my workouts...which I try to do, but sometimes get lazy. I hate exercising!!! :-) Thanks for the input.

I have Wii and compared to PS3 and XBOX2 the cost is lower. Wii sports comes with Wii and its the interactive game you were seeing. Included are: Wii Baseball, Wii Bowling, Wii Golf, Wii Tennis, and Wii Boxing. To play two players on Wii Tennis, Wii Baseball and Wii Boxing you need to buy (or obtain through other methods) another Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Otherwise, the games are quite interactive. You could also look into Wii Play. That game has the following: Tabletop Tennis, Hockey, Fishing, Find Mii, Pose Mii, Target Practice, Tanks, Charge, and Billiards. "I haven't liked playing video games since the old Nintendo...the very first one they put out" Ah yes. It should be of interest to you that there is Wii Virtual Console. You use Wii Points to buy games from the original Nintendo System. You purchase them, download them, and then they'll be playable right then and there. Some entries include Nintendo: Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros 2 (International) Super Mario Bros 2 (Japan)/Lost Levels Super Mario Bros 3 Donkey Kong The Legend of Zelda Gradius Ice Climbers Tecmo Bowl Excitebike Castlevania Ninja Gaiden and plenty more. Not the whole library but enough to choose from. There is also Super Nintendo, Sega, Turbografx, NeoGeo and N64 games you can get this way in the same method. I play my Wii enough times a week, but not that much. I'll just play from time to time. Can't get enough of Wii Sports, on occasion Smash Bros Brawl. I also use virtual console to play Wave Race 64, Streets of Rage and Balloon Fight.

Thank you for such a great response. I loved Super Mario Brothers. I would really be buying it for the sports games. My hubby would really like the racing games though. He has several on the computer, but they aren't nearly as interactive. I really appreciate your reply and wonderful review.

I haven't had a video game system since I was a kid and it was super nintendo. I too have had no interest in getting any kind of new system or playing games ... that was until I played on my cousins wii. I love that thing and am thinking stronlgy about getting one. They even have wii fit now so that you really are working out, and I am sure it is fun too :P
