So when was the last time someone gave you a compliment? It might depend on the level of activity you have. For instance, I stay a home mom might not see very many people during the week, and her husband might be the only one available to say anything positive. Of course if she is on mylot, hopefully she has been complimented here. Or you may work in an environment that is really negative, and the only compliments you get are at home.
When you get a compliment do you sometimes shrug it off? For instance I tell you, you look pretty/handsome. Are you one of those who automatically says, "No, I'm not." Or maybe your mom taught you manners and you say, "Thank you, but no I'm not."

My mom a week ago when she bought me a blouse for losing weight and said she was proud of me losing the 63 pounds I lost this year and to keep up the good work. Otherwise I don't really get compliments but then again I don't get out much a few times a month. I don't take beauty compliments well never have because I feel that I am not really pretty so it feels false somehow. Now if they said I looked nice that da or something hten that is easier to take and I say thank you very much I appreciate it. It makes me feel better. But being told I look beautiful, just doesn't float with me much. Maybe if I can lose alot more weight I would then feel more comfortable in m own skin and be able to take compliments like that and feel it might be true.

well, beginning weight was 426 so no not much pretty in that. I was always told you'd be pretty if you just lose the weight. So I am on my weight loss journey and have far to still go.

You lost 63 pounds, that is awesome! I'm currently trying to lose 30, and I weigh myself tomorrow to see if I've lost anything. I bet you were attractive to begin with, but losing weight will bring your features out and make them even more attractive.

Other than some comments on a few dishes I made for a gathering I can not recall my last compliment.
I try to not say "no I am not" as it seems rude to me...
I am put off by flattery and as far as genuine compliments I hope to one day live up to others' impressions of me

I do not remember the last time I received a compliment, or felt valued. That is my end of the equation. I am valued, and I am aware of it, and I am made aware of it by some other things, but I am not feeling it, for various reasons. When people say nice things to me, I usually just say "Thank you."

It's quite perplexing how we can know something, but not feel it. It's in our head, but not in our heart. I kind of feel that way when I think about why I'm on earth. I know there is a reason, but I sure don't feel like one exists. I have to say GardenGerty I owe you for giving me that tip on magnesium for migraines. I have only had two this month, and at this point I have usually had around six. I can't tell you how much that has made a difference. It's not a compliment, but believe me, you have made a difference to me.

Actually, it was today, I had my haircut on Monday and went in to work and people keep telling me how nice it looks.
My hair has been relatively short and I'll bet a good percentage of males in the world have longer hair then mine is now, actually my husbands hair is nearly as long and I don't even need to comb it..I just run my fingers through it.
Plus I colored it...and got rid of that nasty gray.
I said thanks..and explained it was the first time I had my hair cut with an electric razor and went on.

Apart from my hubby, I have been complimented more on here than I ever have by any of my real life friends from where I live, and that is the truth, people who I am getting to know on here are more of a friend to me than any that have been in my real life. Oh and sorry I forgot, my eldest son also compliments me too, in fact for a 16 year old, he can be a little sweetheart especially when he knows I am down. Do you know he offered me £20 today, to go shopping and treat myself, I cannot tell you how that made me feel, but I said no, but thank you anyway. I cannot take money off him, he only works on a saturday and so he should have his money to spend on himself while he is not earning much. Now if he says it again when he is a millionairre then maybe I would accept his generous offer.

I recieve compliments every day from my husband and kids. I normally say thank you and then say something possitive to them in return. It's nice to get compliments, even if they come from family and friends and no one else.

Actually, I was given a compliment 2 days ago, by my occupational therapist that I was meeting for the first time (another story). On the questionnaire, it asked about medical conditions for the past 5 years, and one of the questions was about weight loss, more than 10 lbs, and I checked yes. She asked me what had caused the weight loss or had I tried to lose weight. I told her 4 years ago I was very very close to 300lbs, and she told me I really looked good, I lost 150 lbs (equal to another person!) and as I do with any compliment, I simply said 'thank you'. I have always replied to any compliment with a simple thank you, as I was taught to do. Although, when I was little, people always told me I had pretty hair, well one time someone told me I had pretty eyes, and I told them 'and pretty hair'! LOL I was about 4 at the time. lol

I am one of those stay at home moms, so not use to compliments outside my own home much..But last weekend I got 2 of them..One is the hair dresser who was cutting my husbands hair, she mentioned how it looks like I had lost weight and the other one was my sister, who asked if I had permed my hair, I said no, and she was like, all that body and no perm?
I didn't know what to say, because I am much harder on myself and didn't see either of those qualities..

I got his device up and running, he is happy customer now. My response: "Thank you, Sir" "Much appreciated".
Sometimes when someone really give me compliments, I just usually smile and . lolz.

I always get compliments in the comment section of my blog. Regarding its sincerity, well, I'm not sure. I mean, they're probably doing it because of four things: they don't know what to comment, they are afraid to be negative, they are just dropping by to get reciprocal comment, or they really like what I wrote.

Yesterday....my husband. Does that count? He is the romantic type so I can usually count on compliments from him. Even after ten years together he still thinks I am pretty hot. I laugh and say thank you and usually give him a squeeze.
Yesterday .... a work peer and friend told me a was a-retentive with a overly defined attention to detail. Also told me I was brilliant. I simply laughed at that one.

The last time someone complimented me was actually this morning when my mum said that she liked my top - not sure if that counts. I do get compliments from friends, my fiance and family, but usually as you say, i kinda shrug it off in a "oh i know" joking kinda fashion because i'm not always very comfortable with accepting compliments...mostly because i'm not really sure how lol
I work with a lot of people and i only say things when i actually mean them so i only actually compliment people when there is something i genuinely like for example i told a girl who was new to our work place that i really liked her shoes yesterday, and it turns out i was one of the first people she'd spoken to, and we carried on talking throughout the shift. Compliments are a great way to start a conversation with someone you don't know very well and would like to get to know and they really do make somebody's day.

I really don't get any compliments and that's ok with me. I don't need them, they're not important, but sometimes it's nice to feel wanted and appreciated. I'm a college student so I'm out and about quite a bit and I still do not get many of them. And, sometimes, depending on the compliment I just shrug it off or so no I'm not or whatever. It's nice if someone tells me certain things, but I don't have to believe it.

I am blessed by many caring support people and friends who are lavish with their compliments. I almost get embarrasssed sometimes. Of course, one can never get--or give--too many compliments. We all need those strokes, don't we?

I often get compliments, particularly from the parenting site I am on. Some of the time I get embarrassed because I don't think I am what the person is saying I am. Other times, I know I am what they are saying I am (like a wise owl, I know I have lots of wisdom to offer). I take the compliments but make sure it doesn't seem as though I've been fishing for them.
I also like giving compliments, especially when I can see that someone is having a rough time and in need of some positive feedback.
Some people expect to be complimented and through tantrums when they don't get what they want, but then again, they are like that with all aspects of their lives.
Other people get embarrassed and try and wriggle out of the compliments, when they shouldn't.
By the way, great discussion. Really makes you stop and think about the less significant things that happen in your day.

just a few minutes ago, one of my clients has began eating healthy and exercising, no fad diets, just a good slow and helathy weight loss. She comes in once a month and the loss was quiet noticable, I told her how good she looked and keep up the good work, she left beaming with smiles, that was so cool :)
If I get complimented I am one of those that say thank you, then if i'm not feeling like its really true, I keep the other comments in my head, a simle thank you and if I believe a big smile.

I try to say thank you and leave it at that too. It never occurred to me it bothered people when I brushed off a compliment. One person told me it was like I was saying they weren't being truthful. I thought that was an extreme point of view, but he had a point. So I try to not negate any compliment.
