Me again, and don't worry I'm facepalmed and temple rubbing over this one, so you won't get a long discussion (sigh... -_-). http://www.wgal.com/news/15967489/detail.html Anyways, a man lost an engagement ring over the weekend. He gets a call from a woman saying she found it. The guy offered $500 for the reward of getting it (this isn't even the worst part). The woman counters and raises it to $1000 so he can get the ring back... And remember I said its facepalm over here. I'm speechless. Facepalm is typically used for when words don't do justice to how dumb/crappy/stupid/annoying a situation is. And if its used with words, that just amplifies the negative feelings.

Just further proof that women are the smarter species. Now if I were the guy in this news story I would have agreed to give the woman the $1000 and arranged a place to meet her. I then would have called the local police department and explained to them that this woman was trying to extort money out of me and was in fact "stealing" the ring she found by not being willing to return it to me without any monetary compensation at all (then of course I would explain my generosity to the officer and the nerve of the woman with her counteroffer) I would arrange to have an officer go with me to pick up my ring and when she refused to hand it over use police intervention to get it back. That will learn her

Its been like this for a couple of weeks. Still a slow, slow, slow, slow climb though. I guess being beat up by the system multiple times over will do that.

That is a gorgeous ring! That is hideous! So, if he hadn't given her the money, then what? Interesting that the ring had been worn in the short time that the thief/extortionist had it in her possession.

Good questions and observations. You also have to note the thief/extortionist did something illegal here as its not her property. Not for wearing and not for using in extortion.

Stories like this always seem to just "fizzle"...we will probably never know if the thief/extotionist suffered any repuercussions for her actions.

What a greedy woman. She should be ashamed of herself. I wonder what would have happened if he reported this to the police and said that the woman was holding the ring for ransom?

Hi Pro - Wow, that woman has a lot of nerve to raise the amount of the reward. It sounds more like she was holding the ring for ransom. I wouldn't doubt if she actually stole it and was pretending she found it. She is definitely one pathetic excuse for a woman.

I agree with Oreo. My first thought when reading this story was "Karma". Other than that I am also at a loss for words. I can't even imagine being that selfish! The guy already offered $500 to get back what was rightfully his to begin with! Karma Karma Karma!

Some people make you wonder don't they? I mean what type of person decides to demand an increase on a reward? It is sad to think that this is the type of world we live in where people are only to happy to profit from the misfortune of others. I would have liked the guy to have been in a position to say to the finder screw you I'll just go buy another one! Fingers crossed this lady gets what is coming to her

While it would have been great if the guy could say "I'll just buy another one" its very likely that reality (budget/cost) would have prevented this. I don't know what kind of person asks for a reward increase, especially for something like this. I could understand if there were concrete and probable expenses involved on the side of the finding party but this situation had neither.

If I was this guy, I would have gotten smart. I'm already offering a reward for the ring, how dare you up the ransom? (Yes, its a ransom at this point) I wouldn't have told the woman this, of course, but since I have all the information about the woman, I now go to the police, and file a report of theft. The woman gets a free night in jail, and I get the ring and keep my $500 to boot!!! Just that simple.

that woman is a crook if someone offered me five hundred dollars for returning his ring I would have been so happy I would not know what to do with myself She sure had a lot of nerve, more nerve than common sense or a sense of morality. Some people are never satisfied are they?

Mmm hmm. I'm thinking of giving that person a present. A T-shirt with the phrase in bright lettering: NO SHAME!!
