My advice is similar to one of your other comments. There is free software out there to help you do this. Just start out by using that and get your fingers used to being where they should be on a keyboard. If you always start out with your fingers on the right keys, you're half way there. Then practice. Mylot is a good place to practice on, and it's not too bad if you make a few typos. I started out doing this method about 5 years ago, I practised at work though and gradually you learn, yes it's slow but persevere! I'm up to 68 WPM with an accuracy rate of 96% So it does work with practice!

even few months back, I had same problem. Its more sort of habbit, There are many tuping tutors are available go and download one. And try to go lesson by lesson, and while going lesson by lesson try not to look at keyboard. Once u will be habituated to this then u will never have problem of looking at keyboard.

i always look at the keyboard when i type because i dont know how to type using
my ten fingers. i can type fast though like 35 to 40 per minute with 98 percent
accuracy. Although this only applies when the things that i need to type is
being dictated to me or when im chatting or answering discussion on mylot.
If I need to look at any paper to type it in on the computer then my typing
speed s*cks...it'll be 20 to 25 word per minute hehehe.

ew its weird, i mean seeing on the keyboard, i was like you once, but after a lot of practices i become perfect, may be because i spend my time on my computer, i used mavis to practice typing, its really amazing, try it, i hope you will like it, mavis beacon (if am correct the spelling), anyways try it, and try to type a lot of pages per day, you will be fast within a week, but you can't feel that you are changing, happy mylotting!!

I would suggest that you try out opening two screens on your computer and try seeing from one and tying on the other. This could be one way to help you out in solving your problem. Continous efforts on this front can help you overcome your habit of seeing the keyboard.

Hello atifshahzad1!:-)
There's nothing wrong if you look at the key board. I do it all the time even though I am typing for many years. But, I don't have it as profession, so probably that's the reason that I never seriously tried it. It's very nice though if one can type without looking at the key board.
And, even though I remember all the keys and their positions, and sometimes, unconsciously, I am actually looking at the screen while typing but it's not something I can do all the time. I can't bring myself to it.
If you really want to write that way, others have given enough suggestions. I just wanted to say that it's ok and since you can write, as you yourself told here, so I don't think there is any need to worry. Just practice some everyday and you'll be perfect someday.

Well, practice does makes perfect as the saying goes. Sooner of later you will be able to type without looking at the keyboard. The most important thing to do is to place your fingers on the homekeys. In other words, the basics of typing. If you don't do this and simply type without the basics, you will have difficulty typing without looking. So, if you have been practicing and not starting with the homekeys it would be very difficult.

Keep on practicing you will get it eventually. There is a software called Mavis Beacon typing tudor. It is really good. It helped me go from 50 words a minute 95 words a minute. It picks up on each individuals strengths and weeknesses, and works with you accordingly.

try any typing lesson and you can typing fast without even looking at keyboard. make sure you know where the button is. if you quite good and can move all your fingers, try asdf (left fingers) jkl; ( right fingers) and both thumb fingers at space. try to figure out where and please put in your mind where the word placed.

Practice makes perfect. You should try to take a lesson and I do believe that with practice and with time you would be able to do it have faith on yourself. because I also tried a lot but was not being able to do it and finally I can do it now because I am more in front of the computer nowadays so have more time to practise.

I dont think you its a habit actually its a lack of practice. Try out doing it at a low pace covering limited letters initially and then add more letters to the system for practice. Try to find some typing games on the net which are free to download and practise them consistently and you would soon find that you are typing without seeing the keyboard at a good pace.

Well, I don't know when I stopped looking at my keyboard, I think I was about 13-14 years old when I stopped looking at the keyboard when I'm typing. I think it was contributed to ICQ-ing with my pals back then that led to this. :D Hope you can succeed soon! Good luck!

I dont think there is anything wrong in that. It is perfectly normal to do so. Many people do it even after years of being on a pc. Maybe you should practise more and concentrate more. You will get better eventually.

I happen to be one of those people who can't type at all if I look at the keyboard. It slows me down way too much and I start getting confused about where letters are and where I think they should be.
I think it just takes practice. There are some fun online games that you can play to learn to type by touch. It makes it much less of a daunting task when you are playing a game as you practice.
