My cat got hit

On Thursday evening, Nigel my 5 1/2 month old cat was hit by a car and died. Two ladies who were walking past saw him in the gutter and laid him down on the footpath and came and got me. They said they knew he was mine becuase they'd seen him in my front yard before.
I was a mess but I kind of wasn't suprised that it happened. Nigel was definitely a free spirit! He was such a cool cat. I couldn't keep him in the house although I thought I should because I knew he was the type to run around the neighbourhood without being cautious of cars. This is why I feel guilty but everyone I have spoken to, including the vets at my work told me that you just can't keep them inside if they don't want to be.
He's been gone for four days now and it's just starting to sink in now that he'll never be running through the door again screaming for his dinner, or running through the door with a lizard in his mouth, screaming like the mad cat he was. RIP Nigel.
Here is a photo I took of him playing amongst the flowers.

All my sympathies, my friend. Its a hard thing to lose our friends, human or animal, because they're part of us. Be glad Nigel never had to be sick... he probably never knew what happened. You did your best for him, so no guilt... from now on, just remember him and smile every day.

Im so sorry (((((((((hugs))))))))) its hard to lose a loved one weather it be human or furry or both lol. But they are right when an animal wants out you are not gonna be able to stop them. I let my cats out all the time and lucky for me they know that cars are bad so I dont worry to much but I know there is that chance of course.

I am so so sorry coffee!! I know how heartbroken you must be for I've had a few in my lifetime that I loved dearly but got hit by a car. Just the other day hubby and I were coming home and there was this beautiful white kitten in the middle of the road, we knew it was gone but I asked hubby to stop and check because if it were still alive, I'd have taken it in to the vet but it was gone. It was just hit too because it was still kind of warm. It put a heck of a damper on my night. I didn't know the kitten nor the owner but it still put a big damper on my night. Please know that he's in Heaven now. While on this earth he came to know love because of you. He was happy that you let him roam free. He was secure because of you. So please hon, don't beat yourself up over something you did or didn't do because it was all done out of love. Bless you hon.

but do not blame yourself he was just a free spirit and could not be hemmed in. some cats are home bodies and some are not. later when its not so painful you may get another kitty or maybe not. just wait and see god bless

I certainly hope the kid next door didn't kill your cat. I would look into it if I were you because that's not cool.
You have my sympathy, losing both your dog and cat at the same time. They're in heaven now and they're not suffering any more.

I'm sorry that happened. I worry about my pets all the time. When I was little, I was playing in the front yard and my dog ran into the street and a truck going way over the speed limit hit her. I saw the whole thing and never forgot it. Now I'm the overprotective pet owner and my baby pets hate that, but they'll have to deal because they just don't know.

Being a cat lover myself, i can only imagine what you are going throught. When we as people have pets, especially those that we are close to. We form an attachment to that particular animal and it becomes a part of our everyday lives. I am pretty sure that Nigel will be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear about Nigel coffeeshot, and I know how you must be feeling at this very moment. Don't feel guilty - you allowed him to be the free spirit that he was by letting him go out. In time, you will be able to draw on the memories you have of him - and you will smile again.

I am so sorry about your kitty getting hit by a car. I have lost many animals and it never gets any easier. At least those nice ladies told you about you didn't spend days wondering where he was. And it does sound like he didn't suffer any, and of course is now in heaven running around having a wonderful time.
Again, I am very sorry. Always makes me sad to hear about an animal leaving us.
