I need to clean my microwave. I really, really don't want to. I know how to loosen stuck on stuff, but I still don't want to. When was the last time you cleaned yours? That is, if you have one.

Not in forever and it's really gross and definitely needs to be cleaned. When I get the chance and I'm not worried about school stuff, I definitely plan on scrubbing it out really well and making sure I get every last bit. The last time it was cleaned was probably months and months ago.

I clean mine about every two weeks. I like to use the "steam method" as I call it. I take a coffee cup and I fill it 3/4 with water. I then slice a fresh lime and put half in the water (or I guess you can use a piece of lemon since they are considerably bigger) I place the cup in the microwave and let it get heated up and when it beeps I just leave it sitting in there for a few minutes. This is long enough for it to get the microwave all steamed up and it loosens anything so easy! The lime also leaves a nice scent as well. I tend to take the lime and squeeze it onto a cloth though and wipe the microwave with it after I have wiped off the initial "grime" with a sponge or cloth. So this might be why it leaves such a wonderful scent too.

rofl! It really doesn't take that long, but hey...if I'm getting a free vacation to clean a microwave then why not

Thanks for the tip, roxane271! I found some overly priced pre-packaged "wipes" that basically do the same thing you have outlined above...stick it in the micro for a prescribed amount of time, package bursts and the steam loosens the crud, then wipe it down with the moistened wipe. I thought they worked pretty good as long as the crud wasn't too baked on. I like your next-to-free idea MUCH better.

I spent the whole weekend cleaning my entire house as a very good friend was coming from German to visit me and we had not seen each other for 30 years. So the microwave was last as I used it up until the last minute so it was on Sunday night. (She arrived on Monday)!

I did a thorough cleaning about a month ago..As for cleaning my glass tray, about once or twice a week, depending on how messy it got..

I pop the tray in the dishwasher occasionally, as it is never as dirty as the rest of the microwave. If only I could just shove the whole microwave in there to be washed.

I know it is a dirty job..Though now I do have it easier, my oldest son hasn't lived here in over a year now,but when he used the microwave he never covered his food, I had to clean it almost every day..

Well it has been four days have you cleaned it yet? I am answering from email so I don't know if you have or haven't I clean my microwave once a month or as needed cause sometimes a mess can be made and that means a thorough cleaning job. I just heat up water with a dollop of dish soap for about 6 minutes and then let set for about 15-20 minutes and then all I have to do is really wipe it down and rinse off. It doesn't take long but I don't like doing it all the time. My mother is one who hates cleaning her microwave and I am usually stuck doing it every few months for her the longer it is left the harder it is to clean.

Mine usually doesn't get cleaned til I notice it needs it! ..then I put a cup or bowl of water in it, heat it up til it steams or boils, then I wipe it clean with paper towels or a damp cloth.. it's the easiest way I know of.. and I'm going to try it on my regular stove oven too, only with more water..

I clean mine just about every day mainly if there are things that have been reheated like chili or something like that. when it splats than it gets all over the place.. So a good wipe down is a good thing... I would prefer to do it once a week though that's ok as long as you are reheating coffee or defrosting something..

I don't know when it was the last time I cleaned my microwave because I didn't clean it, my husband did, when he spilled something all inside of it. Now if I could get him to do that on a continual basis, I'll never have to clean my microwave. Though, I'd rather clean the microwave than the toaster oven (or the toilet for that matter).

I cleaned mine a week ago, but it needs to be cleaned again. I always cover things that I heat up, but somehow things still get out from under the covering, and get on the door and ceiling and all around. The worst thing to clean is oatmeal.

The oatmeal thing happened to me last night. I was eating that for dinner and when I went to get it out, I discovered some had seeped out, even with the precautions of covering and everything.

It's been a very long time since I cleaned my microwave, so long I can't remember when I last did it. Though it doesn't appear to me too nasty. A tip to keep from cleaning it so often is to make sure you at least put a paper towel over the food that you are cooking to keep it from splattering all over the inside of the microwave.

Oh yeah, I do that all the time. My mom taught us to do that since we were little kids. But I got my microwave used, and the person before me apparently did not put anything over their dishes.

I don't think ours has been done in a while. Must put it on the to do list I think, before it starts growing it's own creatures! lol.

Well, i dont clean mine very often, but its not really dirty either. I dont like to clean it, but when it needs it, i just do it really fast and get it over with!! The part that irritates me the most is that its stainless steel on the outside and it always has finger prints!

I honestly do not know. It does not get very bad usually, so it is not something that I have to constantly be on top of. I try to remember to cover things when they go in and it really cuts down on the need to clean it as often.

I wipe down after every use a give a proper clean about once a month so it never is a major chore to have to do. I yell at the girls after they have used it though as they tend to leave the splatters on rather than wipe straight away and this really annoys me. It the actual oven I tend to put of doing. Ellie :D

Hubby cleaned ours about 2 days ago, I was on Mylot and he cleaned the kitchen and also had to let me know that he cleaned the microwave for me, of course he had to be wanting something.. Most of the time, I just put a bowl of water in there and let the steam do the work, then I wipe it clean..
