How old when you got glasses?

If you have spectacles, how old were you when you got them? Do many people have glasses in your family?I don't have glasses but i find as time goes on it takes a little while to focus once I look from close up to a distance away. I think I will be needing glasses in a couple of years. It doesn't bother me though, I've actually always wanted to wear glasses! So how old when you got yours? Were you excited or upset that you had to wear them?

I was 14 years old when I was forced to wear eyeglasses because my eyes can no longer see clearly. I was excited but after a week or a couple of it, I was so upset. I realized it more when I have to join my friends bathing on the beach. I had to wear off my eyeglasses. And everything was so blur then. That day, I realized that having eyeglasses is a disadvantage. Now, I am wearing contact lenses but I really wish to have an eye-laser surgery to correct my eyes. I want them back to normal.

I was in elementary school but I don't remember how old I was.My mom wore glasses.I was upset to wear them if I am remembering correctly. These days I only wear my glasses when i go out of the house because I need to see far away.At home everything is close enough.

I was born with defective eyesight and by the time I was three years old I had had two operations and was wearing glasses. I have worn glasses ever since, and although I would love to be able to wear contact lenses, I can't get on with them. I suppose that having grown up wearing glasses, it never exactly upset me that much although I have had times when I wished I could wear contacts.

I first started to wear glasses at the age of 10. There are a lot of people in my family who wear glasses. When I found out I had to wear glasses I wasn't really that upset because without them I was getting very bad headaches. The only time when glasses became a problem for me was when I started at secondary school and was called all sorts of names because of them. But after a while I just ignored the comments and the other kids soon became bored of me not responding. Now I wear contact lenses most of the day, but will put on my glasses after I get back from work to give my eyes a rest.

I was about 26 when I started wearing glasses which means I have been wearing them for 20 years now. And then when I turned 40 I had to get bifocals because I couldn't read small print at all. I remember the first incident when I noticed this, my mom had called me to look up a number in the phone book and I practically had to put the phone book on the floor to read it. I have always wore glasses and never had the desire to wear contacts.

I have had wonderful eyesight for almost my whole life. I never like the idea of wearing glasses or contacts. My eyesight was so good that at age 18, I was drafted into the Navy to be a communicator, and for that vocation, one needs perfect eyesight. After all these years of not wearing glasses, I finally had to get a pair for myself about six months ago on the urging of my wife. As I am getting older and my eyesight is not so great anymore for reading purposes, I have gotten myself a pair of reading glasses, which I use to read the newspaper and sometimes for staring at the small words on the computer screen. Otherwise, I still go around town not having to wear any glasses. I hope my eyesight will stay this way for a long time more to come.

I had my eyeglasses only a few years ago. I am not 43 years old and being a teacher by profession, spending a lot of time reading and working in the computer, there is no way I could avoid having an eyeglasses. The first pair I had was for my astigmatism and after 6 months I got cured from it. I went for a year without eyeglasses, then last year, I had to upgrade it to a reading glasses because I can't read letters anymore.

Hi coffeeshot. I was twelve when i got my first pair of specks. And i hated them, i used to get teased alot so i very rarely wore them.At twenty i tried the contacts but never felt comfortable with them.So i started wearing glasses again, it's amazing all the styles of frames you can now choose from.At forty i'm now comfortable with myself and the fact that i'm blind without them, and i think i look just fine with them.

I am 22 years old, and i have been wearing glasses since i was in the 3rd grade. I am near sighted. And unlike so many people i still wear my glasses. My sister has upgraded as she says to contact lenses. I dont think that they are for me to tell you the truth. My glasses are doing just fine for now.

I was six when I first got my glasses, I was born blind in my left eye which put a huge strain on my right so the sight quickly got bad. I have to wear them all the time and cant see further than a few inches without them before it all becomes blurry.

I was 9! (third grade) At first I was excited coz I always liked people wearing glasses, making me think that i'd look smarter with it. But it doesnt work that way and I'm still required to wear it now (although I prefer contact lens better)

I think I was about 11 years old when I first got mine. My father just started wearing glasses and my mother is planning on getting them. I was excited to get them at first, but then I stopped liking the way I looked with them.

It was a long time ago (lol), but I remember it well! I was 15 years old, and I was having problems at school trying to reading the blackboard from my desk, so I would ask the girl next to me what it said. My teacher caught me asking one day and I got into trouble until I explained I couldn't read the blackboard from a distance. I had my eyes tested and lo and behold, I was very short-sighted. I hated wearing spectacles - they weren't exactly the "in thing" to be wearing at 15 - but I had no choice, at least I could see! I had to wear them all the time - and I still do!

I got mine when I was either 4 or 5. One of my worst memories was when I was just started school and they made me wear a patch over my good eye to try and strengthen my bad eye , good idea if unlike me you cannot even see the single large letter on an eyechart with your bad eye! I still wear glasses - I don't need to wear them walking around but if I want to read anything then I have to have my glasses on! I don;t think I have ever been too upset about wearing them - I have always been used to it ! My 14 year old son had regular eye tests til a few years ago and his vision was always perfect, last year he started getting very severe migraines every other day - we got him an eye test and sure enough he needed glasses. I thought it would be a fight to make him wear them but he actually likes wearing them! xxx

I had to get reading glasses when I was in grad school, when I was 21. There was just so much reading that my right eye, which is slightly weaker than my left, was straining to keep up, and it gave me a lot of headaches. So I wear my glasses when I'm reading or on the computer, but that's all. My vision is actually 20/20 in my weak eye, but since it's better in my strong eye, I still have to wear glasses. :)

Hi coffeshot! To be honest with you, I still haven't gotten my own reading glasses. I still borrow my hubby's if I have to read something that is printed in very small fine prints which is only rare that I do. I still can read small prints easily that is why I really am not yet pressured to get one for myself and I am 42. However, hubby does not like it because he always tell me I may do damage on my vision if I keep on using his reading glass. I know and I agree with him but the stubborn side of me, just don't want to. haha..

i have had to wear glasses since elementary school! i think like 5th grade maybe before! but i got contacts in 6th grade and i have been wearing them ever since! alot of people in my family wear glasses or have contacts. I honestly wish that i could have 20/20 vision without glasses or contacts because after awhile you just get tired of messing with it all. It gets so expensive. Like 2 weeks ago i went to the dr and i had to pay 95.00 for a 6 months supply of contacts i havnt gotten my glasses updated yet becasue i cant afford it!
