Do you want to live to be 100? My local paper had an article written by a doctor, who mentioned 8 items to help reach this age. I wanted to know how many of the 8 do you do or have already done? 1) Eat healthy food plenty of fruits, vegetables, olive oil, fish and whole grains 2) read the newspaper 3) have children 4) drink tea (black, green, or oolong. 5) watch your weight 6) get married 7) have faith 8) live on a farm
I use to live on a farm, but would like to again. No tea for me; however, do need to work on eating better. Which would you work on?

I have talked to several people in my community over 100 and they all say eating healthy foods and enjoying life were keys to their long life. Many people that I know are over 80 and able to get around without help from others. In fact, 10 of them just came back from a cruise, as they had always wanted to see more of the country.

To live for 100 year I would swear by "pranayam"
Pranayam basically consists of breathing techniques. In our busy day-to-day life we forget breathing properly.Pranayam teaches us to breath properly. There are over 1 million nerves in human body which require oxygen to keep functioning well and if we ignore breathing propely we are depriving these nerves from their food, i.e. oxygen. So it is very important tyo breath properly, breath in deeply and breath out fully. Its a sure way of living long.
Out of the 8 mentioned I think I eat fruits and vegetables and fish though not plenty of them :P

Thank you for the information. I didn't know about the breathing. It sounds like a good way to lower stress.

I think living to 100 is quite possible with those recommended tips you have mentioned. My great grandmother lived up to 97 years of age. Her diet was mostly fish, vegetables, rice and she used coconut oil in all her cooking. When she was sick, she didn't see a doctor, instead she used homemade herbal remedies to treat herself. I think I would settle to eating less meat and eat as suggested in this discussion. But most of all, I think the key is to live long and healthy is stay out from stress. Emotional stress is one factor that causes illness and weaken our immune system.

I sure agree about the stress and am certainly trying to lower it. I'm eating less red meat and more fruit and vegetables. I have noticed a big difference in my life, as started my weight loss plan the beginning of January and haven't had a cold or flu like past years. I'm slowly losing weight and really starting to see a difference in my appearance. Thanks for the reply.

He mentioned newspaper to keep your brain working, I think reading is the point he is trying to make. I do a lot of reading books, magazines and newspapers. I would say he is in his late 50's or early 60's based on when he graduated with his medical degree. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Fismomma,
Honestly, I don't want to live to 100 years. I would like to live happily and peacefully. Quality of live is important than quantity. You can't do your own things after 60S and 70s. you have to depend on somebody to help you to live. So we have to find out how can we live happily. It will really do some magic in your life.
Thank you!!!

I can understand living happily is important. My parents do their own things and my mother is in her 70's and my father in his 80's. They travel and live a great life. Thanks for the reply.

In this world today? Even if you ate healthily there is not a secure way to ensure you live to 100. Look at all the natural disasters there are in this world. The only sure way to secure your future is to accept Jesus into your life and make sure you have an eternity in Heaven with those you love.

Hi Fishmomma, I do most of these things or have done them at one time. I would like to work on eating better, and lose a little weight. As for living to be 100, I think it would be fine if I didn't outlive my children. Of course the quality of life would be very important as well. Blessings.

Well I have gotten married, had a child, drink the tea, eat pretty well. That of course along with watching weight need a little more work. I do have faith, but only occassionly read the paper. I am not the farm type, can't see myself ever doing that.

the secret to reach a hundred years old is never eat foods that has chemicals, because chemicals can harm our body without us knowing it.just eat fruits and vegetables that are organic and fresh.and never smoke and drink.get a lot of exercise or work moderately to tone your muscles because whats the use of reaching a 100 if you have a lot of ailments and diseases.its better to reach a hundred without any health problems.but i think i cant do all that so i just keep my body busy to work, eat foods that i think is safe to eat and without chemicals and preservatives, take the right rest, and avoid stress....

I agree reaching 100 without a lot of ailments and diseases is good. You did mention one key word stress and feel many people have a hard time with this one. I have many friends that eat right, get plenty of sleep, don't need to lose any weight, but they spend the day dealing with bumper to bumper traffic in Southern California, which is quite stressful.
One of them told me he is now taking the train and feels a lot better. He feels that he can get so much work done on the train, which means more family time. I was glad to hear him sounding so happy.
Thanks for the reply.

That's interesting. Let's see. I try to eat healty, read the newspaper, have one child, definitely have faith. I have never lived on a farm, but I think my best memories (besides being a child and living next to a bunch of farms) was when my ex and my son and I had an acre of land with lots of dogs, cats and ducks. On the other side of our backyard fence was an orange grove, so it appeared that our land went on forever. I can see how living that life - the peaceful life - could help anyone live longer.

Let's see.
1. I don't do enough of this. I should but I don't.
2. The newspaper is depressing most of the time so nope I don't do this either.
3. Well I have 3 so maybe that would make up for the first two. lol
4. I hate tea so no way.
5. I don't have to. I am too thin and have trouble gaining weight.
6. Done that and very happy with the results. :)
7. I have that in great abundance.
8. I used to live on a farm. Now we travel and are living our dream which I think is as important.

Too bad the average doctor only lives to be 60. But yahoo recently published an article on a 115 year old woman. She and my great grandmother who lived to 98 have one major thing in common: DON'T LET STRESS OVERTAKE YOU, but just take the day in stride. All that stress will catch up to you.
