I saw on the news that 1/3 of people are staying home this weekend

Memorial Day used to be a long weekend that people used to honor our fallen soldiers as well as take the family on camping trips or other fun things. Now people say they can't afford the gas so they're staying home. What are you doing this weekend? I, as usual, am staying home. I don't have a grill, either, so I'm very non-traditional!

I'm staying home with friends and family and having a bbq in the yard, along with a fire in the pit later in the evening.

We MIGHT go to the theme parks close to us. It's a 1/2 tank gas round trip.. but at almost 4 bucks a gallon... WOW.. I am not sure. Something has got to give and SOON

Don't hold your breath! I was shocked at how much it costs for a day's pass to a theme park! Disneyland is out of the question for a lot of people, it's so expensive. A park in my state charges $42 for a day's pass and the water park is separate at $29!! Who can afford that?!

That's true. I forgot to mention I have season passes. The typical day (aside from cost of gas) for the four of us to spend a day at one of the parks (I am in Central Florida) is about $50. So its not too bad. We will usually go around 2 in the afternoon, hit the rides we are in the mood for.. then go home ;)

I haven't been anywhere and I'm not going anywhere. What a miserable gal I am!

Well, they say heaven is in your own backyard so you're where you should be! I rarely go anywhere, either. The farthest I ever travel is 30 miles to see my dad and stepmom. After driving 1866 miles to get back home last year, I'm happy to be done with traveling for awhile!

It's definately heaven here. That's why I live here! However, if it stopped raining for just two minutes I'd be allot happier.

Pretty much the same as you, just stay home and relax. Well, for part of it anyways, I have to work Memorial Day night.

I will be staying home except to go 15 miles to the county seat and attend a memorial service. My husband was in Viet Nam, my Daddy in World War II, my youngest was also in the service. I honor, admire and respect our service men and women.

Count me among the staying home crowd. Like you said, gas is just too expensive to even contemplate flying or driving anywhere. I'll get my kids fot at least a day, hang out by the pool and maybe have a nice dinner on Sunday. More than anything though, I'll just take the time to enjoy a couple of days with no work.

That sounds like a wonderful holiday weekend! Better than driving for hours, right? And the kids just make it perfect!

I haven't gone anywhere for Memorial Day since I was born. We stopped doing stuff for Memorial Day when I was in elementary school. We don't grill or fix anything special. It's too expensive to do anything anymore. I'd rather save money and do something more fascinating when the time comes.

We always went camping and had a great time. But since I've been an adult I haven't done anything special except put out my flags and thank our neighborhood vets in person.

My husband just went to town to pick up mail, and he stopped by the cemetery while there to 'talk' with Mom & Dad (a veteran). We're sticking close to home, but tomorrow may go into town for a local festival of sorts, The Feast of the Flowering Moon. I guess there's all manner of things going on there, loads of Native American cultural activities and such. Should be a fun day, and thankfully, only about a 10 mile drive from the house.

That sounds like a wonderful weekend! My dad, stepmom and I will be decorating my Grandpa's grave, he was in WWI. I think we'll all grow to appreciate how much our local attractions have to offer. That's one of the bright spots in this horrid gas situation.

I'm in the group staying at home this weekend. We'll be having a BBQ with my daughter and her husband at our place and enjoying tossing horseshoes during the day and a card game or two in the evening.

I have to work on Memorial Day. I'm off today and tomorrow but not doing anything special. Will just be hanging around the house ditzing around with the computer, reading and resting with my legs up as much as possible. The ole arthritis is making itself known more lately.

I had no idea dragons got arthritis at your age, you look so young in your avatar! I know what you mean about that, though, mine has been kicking up and especially today when I got out the weedwhacker-ouch! Hope you have a nice rest and a wonderful weekend. Maybe work will be fun? Hope so!
