Do you always believe what it says on beauty products?

For example I just put Nivea moisturiser on my face, on the bottle it says noticably firmer and tangibly taut skin. I am not sure whether I believe it or not. I think this cream makes my face feel softer and not dry, but I don't know about firmer. Also with the coco butter creams that say reduces stretch marks, I have seen no evidence of this on me, I used it everday and it did not reduce or eliminate any of my strethmarks, lol. So my question to you is do you believe what it says on these products? If you do believe in one of these products please tell us all, I would love to know which products are really what they say they are? Waiting eagerly for your replies......

I am usually skeptical but willing to give it a try. I have been impressed with some of Avon's products- that is the line I have the most experience with. My mom started using the ANEW line and within a couple of months looked a good 10 years younger. So much so, that her sister took one look at her and said "give me whatever it is she's using." She has also continued to use it. Not everything will work- bust creams...sorry, you got what you got. Can you firm up the skin a little and make them "look" better...maybe. Stretch marks? They diminish over time usually anyway, and the best cure for those is prevention. Creams may help lighten those but it mostly has to do with your skin composition. And tightening your butt? Are we talking that you are in shape but the skin is a little saggy or are we talking you are 100 pounds overweight...common sense has to play in here as well. So, yes, I do think some can work as state. But, on the other side of that- are the chemicals they are filled with doing more harm in the long run...? Food for thought.

Wow, I want that product your mum uses, 10 years younger, I am 29 years old that means I can look 19 years old, that would be awesome. Can you tell me what the product was called that your mum used, as I would really like to try it? You seem to have alot of common sense and knowledge on skincare products, I appreciate your valuable response. I agree with what you said about stretch marks, they do reduce over time, but sadly they are still there. Maybe the creams have lightened them, not sure if it was the creams or time, lol. That is good food for thought you mentioned about all the chemicals.

Hello friend...she uses the Anew skin line from AVON. They have a few different ones depending on your age and what stage of aging your skin is in. For ages 25-35 the "Retroactive+" line would be initially recommended, but if you have fine lines and wrinkles already, you could go up to the next level and that would be the "Force Extra" line. My mom and her sister use the third level (Ultimate), because of their age group/skin condition. And all they use is the day cream, night cream and eye cream...though there is targeted creams and serums you can also get. (My mom actually skips using one of the creams during the summer because it made her breakout but during winter she uses both). You can take a "quiz" at this link to find out what regimen would be recommended for you. http://tinyurl.com/4nwso9 Then, you can go to the Avon Australia site at http://www.avon.com.au/ . It doesn't look like you can shop online there, though. But you could find exactly what you want and find a rep through the site...if you decide you would like to try it. I am not sure about Australia, but here Avon has a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Wow thanks above31rubies for going out of you way and giving me this information, much appreciated. I will check out these links that you gave me. I am 29 years old, so I don't have too many wrinkles yet, lol, but prevention would be great and increase elasticity in the skin. Sounds good, have a great day, you give great advice.

i absolutely do not believe what it says on the label. let's face it, cream is cream and it is not going to make your skin tighter or get rid of cellulite or anything else but moisturize. i also have learned that they are not required to divulge all the ingredients in the product so you really have no clue what the heck you are putting on your body. your skin is the largest organ on your body and what goes on it goes in your body. i try to use organic or all natural but they are very expensive and not available everywhere you usually shop.

That is cheeky of them not putting all the ingredients on the packet, we have a right to know as buyers what we are putting on our body. Like you said, whatever we put onto our skin absorbs into our body.

I have tried before a lotion that says, reduce the stretch marks and after consuming the entire bottle, nothing happens..LOL, I even tolerate the price hoping It will really minimize it. Anyway, I don't believe what it all say, for me, some were just exaggerated to attract more buyers.I have tried before anti bacterial facial wash ponds for my pimples and it works effectively!

LOl, I would use 10 bottles if it would do what it says and price would not matter as much if it really worked. If someone could invent a product that could eliminate or drastically reduce stretch marks they would be a billionaire. I do think some face washes work like you said to help get rid of pimples. I appreciate your valuable response have a great day.

I don't believe what they say. I just use things if I notice them working or like them. Of course on the bottle they are going to make the product sound super awesome so people will pick it up and buy it. It's just how marketing and package design works. Maybe since taking all my marketing course work, I'm just a skeptic haha. My mom swears by cocoa butter lotion. She used it all during her pregnancies to reduce the amount of stretch marks she'd have and she thought it worked back then.

Your mum was lucky, I used coco butter and biooil all through my pregnancy too and it did not work for me. I am also a bit of sceptic as I have done a marketing degree too. I do think some of them do what they say to a degree, but the truth is stretched, lol.

A big NO! Actually you can tell so by your own experience. How many products have you tried because you were enticed by the good promotional lines but to no avail. Why because each of them would always say the best for their products for the sake of getting big sales and that is natural because that is their business. No products would ever firm up you skin, once it is sagging,it will sag forever uless you undegro some enhancement procedures that would cause you so much. And same is through with stretch mark removers. So don't be fooled by those greedy manufacturers. The best thing is for you to protect your skin the natural way. Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated and avoid early sagging of skin. Always smile as it takes more muscles when you frown. Use moisturizer to replace the natural oil lost from washing. As to your sretch marks, just do your daily bending body exercises and it will somehow help but not totally, mind you! Anyway none of us will see them unless you do wear skimpy bikinis. Just jokin, he! he ! he!

Great response, you have some great advice. I don't have to worry about sagging sking as yet, only 29 years old. As for my stretch marks well luckily they are below my belly button so I can still wear bikini, he he. I do need to srink more water, that is great advice, I often forget to drink enough of it. I guess smiling will give me smile frinkles instead of frown ones, he he, maybe I should keep my smile like Mona Lisa then I won't get any wrinkles in that area on my face. Never heard of bending exercises to help with stretch marks, what type of bending exercises are you referring to? Have a great day, you have given me something to think about now.

Thanks a lot for giving me a best response rating! At 29 you are still very young my dear but it's good that you start taking care of your skin.Yes, you start consuming lots of water, it is good for your skin and for your health as well. The body bending exercise is simply reaching your toes without bending your knees. It will smoothen your belly and your stretch marks may be minimized. God bless!

Yes it is very frustrating when products say they are going to do something and it doesn't. One product though that I have heard good reviews on about anti acne is proactive I think that is one of the real products out there that actually does work.

Not really no. They say all of these things because women are too concerned about their appearance and don't want wrinkles or flabby skin or whatever else they are worried about. So when they find a 'cheap' alternative to surgery and other harsh treatments they follow it blindly without really thinking about it. The truth is, those things really do not work. They just tell you they do to sell you them.

I think some of them work a little but not like they say it. They do have a great target market, women would love to believe all these things as true. If there is ever a product that does do these things the makers will be millionaires.

Yes I think some people do get reactions to certain products with all the chemicals they put in them. I agree if these products did work then you would not see people with skin care problems such as acne or noone would have wrinkles, lol!

I think that some products work adn others I can't say. I watch comercials all of the time and notice how nice the women look before and after they use the products(exspecially makeup) but it doesn't really make me wonder so much that i go out and buy it. Skin product are a little tricky; you have to try them and see what your skin will and will not work with. So to say some thing work and somethings might not work. You just have to try and see what works for you.

Yes I agree some products work better on others than it does on yourself, trial and error is the way. However I still think alot of the products totally exaggerate their claims. Also with the commercials you have to wonder how much make up and lighting they use in the after shots, lol.

I am not the type of person who would apply products on my body regularly so I am not sure if moisturizers or any other skin products really work. I only use facial cleansers and toners once in a while. One time, I had lots of pimples so my friend who was a dermatologist advised me to use astringent no. 1 (extraderm) and an antibiotic that she developed. It worked on me and now, I stopped using them. Some say that once you have started using facial products, you must continue using it or else, your problem would resurface. I also tried Jergens mark reducer lotion (forgot the exact name of the lotion but it is jergens) and Avon SSS mark reducer but it did not have any effect on me so I stopped. I am into skimpy clothes anyway.

I really dont put confidence in those moiserizers and stuffs, they dont do anything for my skin; personally I prefer to make my own natural herbal things and use on my skin. And if you follow up and read you can make those things like facial creams and stuff your selves. I think it is all about making money.

Hi kiran, I'm a cosmetics freak which means that I spend lots of time browsing the aisles to compare beauty products. I think the more expensive brands really do work; while many of the cheaper ones don't. I like Nivea because of the clean and fresh feel after, but it's one of those products that don't do the job. I think you should invest in other products if you really want the product to work. :)

hi kiran!! for me, i only use one brand since then. i always use pond's and it is good for my skin. i don't realy believe to all the products in the commercials in tv because i know that the commercial models were just hired because they have beautiful faces already, and not that they used the product that they endorse. sometimes when i read magazines i am amazed of the models who's endorsing a beauty product. their faces are like face of an angel. but come to think of it this way, they only endorse that product but in other way they are using another product that is their personal choices. so, that's it. i will only believe to the product who's proven and effective to my skin.. happy posting!! :)

There are lots of skin products in the market that tells a lot promises to your skin, but actually I think it kinda true but it takes really long time to see the results. Just like the whitening creams and the sort.. I have used quite a lot of skin products and the above average to expensive products are seem to work better compare to the cheap and average products. Anyways, you can't go wrong with the tanning lotions! Lol

I agree, I think some of the expensive products do work a little but I don't think they work to the extent that they promise. I have also tried the whitening creams to try and reduce pigmentation from pregnancy. Don't know whether it is disappearing now because now had baby or if it is from the cream. That is true with the tanning lotions they are good.

Actually its hard to believe any of the claims of these beauty products. There are a few I have actually noticed a little difference with...maybe one or two but never anything drastic.

I was actually thinking about this just the other day and I will tell you what I think. I think that when a beauty product makes a promised like "50% reduction in fine lines within 3 weeks" or whatever, that that claim is based on the results being compared to not useing any moisturizer at all.

I never had any success with cocoa butter no matter what they say. I do like noxema as I have used it for years and years. it makes my face soft and smooth and keeps it moisturized too. its not as expensive as newer products but it is still in the stores and it works' I think. it comes in a blue container. also I love jergens age defying lotion as my skin is so dry and it does moisturize it so well.
