Blame the president! Blame congress! Blame the oil producing nations. Blame the oil companies! Exxon may have had a $40 billion profit last year, but they paid $105 billion in taxes. Environmentalists prevent us from drilling. We haven't built any new refineries since the Carter Administration. Taxes add as much as 75 cents to each gallon of gas. Okay. Here is a great article talking about all of this and it has some eye-openers! Check it out.

Prices in Chicago are $4.29 and up....
I need a gallon per 16 miles....I will probably create bike/car to drive without gasoline....or should I have a horse in my garage?

This article makes some very good points, yet people and most especially those in Congress who want to look like they are actually doing something for a change insist on blaming the "Evil Big Oil" for the prices we are seeing.
Some have even went to far as to impose a "Windfall Profits Tax" on the oil companies to punish them for making a profit.
President Carter tried that when he was in office and the results were not pretty. High prices, gas shortages, decreased production, and long lines at the pumps.
Democrat Maxine Waters had a novel solution.... she thought that by threatening to Nationalize the oil companies she could bring them into line with the demands of these silly self appointed watchdogs.
Here is the link to that little exchange...

All she managed to do was make herself look rabid and rather stupid.
I love it when liberals throw a hissy fit and then get all discombobulated and confused when they try to talk.

Darn, right. I don't think we should blame anyone though. It's not like there's a shortage or anything.I once read an article that said that the inflated gas prices were due to speculation more than a real shortage in the market. I guess it's just human nature to try to cash in on a crisis. I guess we just have to weather the storm. We'll get through. Eventually.

The government supposedly investigated that high profits that the oil companies made - the oil companies said they used the extra money for "research" - and nothing was done despite the fact that they DID make record profits. I sure they'll make even more this year since gas prices had more than doubled.

Yes we pay a lot for gas here too. And yes a lot of it is taxes. Even so it's not the taxes that are making the prices rise the way they are at the moment. I hadn't thought of blaming anybody except myself for not earning enough to be able to keep up with the price hikes. I think that if I was going to blame anybody my finger would be pointing to the US economy because the Dollar is so weak.
C'mon folks start spending that nice juicy tax money you all just got so your currency will start being worth something again!

oh yes... gas prices is so ridiculous nowadays... i just can't believe it... we have to make a sacrifice in our expenses to be able to cover for the gas price... i hope the government can do something to reduce the price... i don't know who to blame and i don't want to blame any party for this... it is no use... i just hope something can be done to fix this problem as soon as possible so that the people who are living on their limited paychecks won't suffer... take care and have a nice day...

We as the voters need to start putting pressure on our representatives in government to start letting those oil companies drill in ANWR and more off shore. We also need to get more refineries built. We had one in my hometown but it is gone now and not replaced.
There is a possibility of a new one being built in South Dakota but it looks like it will be a long time in coming.

It doesn't matter who we blame the reality is that gas prices are too high and most people can't afford to purchase gasoline at those prices. In Southern California it is at $4.00 a gallon. Other countries are even paying more for a gallon of gas than we are.

It's true even in the Philippines the price of gas has skyrocketed in such an accelerated pace I can't keep up anymore! It's really crazy I think chemists should start focusing on creating a new source of fuel for cars because transportation costs are so high now. :( At this rate, we'll be up to our necks trying to make money. :(It's so sad thanks for sharing the article estherlou

Petrol prices are getting high here too, specially with the 'apparent' shortage in Scotland which i think did get hyped up, this has a knock on effect for my business if it continues, I will have to increase my prices to cover the money im loosing, which in turn effects my customers.

lol i ride a bike to work, why waste money on gas, when you could buy a new tv from not buying gas for a week, but of course on vacation, money flies away. you cant blame anyone, only one you can blame is the earth, for having nothing to give to us, cause pretty soon it'll be a empty piece of rock, then god comes and kills us all
