Do you enjoy biting ice cubes?

I have got a friend who enjoys biting ice cubes. Each time we eat out, she will request for more ice in her drinks. In fact, when she is not feeling embarrassed, she will ask for her drink without ice, and then a separate cup of only-ice. I once read that ice is harder than concrete so when you bite ice, you are like biting concrete (or worse). I stopped biting after that. I just suckle the cube till it melts. So, do you enjoy biting ice cubes? Do share! :D

Sounds so familiar. Do I happen to know this friend of yours? I happen to be one who eats ice-cubes. I bite them when the ice-chunks are too big to fit the mouth comfortably. It is good exercise for the teeth too. By the way, ice-cubes are much softer than sugar cane and some types of chocolates. Also, it is a better way to vent anger by grinding ice-cubes. There is no bad karma generated.

Lol, how am I supposed to know if you know this friend of mine? Do you know someone like her? If you give a name, maybe I can do a check. Exercise for the teeth? More for the jaws, I think. Might you be iron-deficient? At least 4 or 5 people in this discussion have mentioned this point... maybe you like to see a doctor or something...

Iron deficient? I don't think so. I am still a regular blood donor. I keep that in mind. Maybe I should start to bite iron :p

Maybe it's time to start taking iron tablet supplements. Or do a checkup.

No, I sure don't. You're right, it is terrible for your teeth. Eating ice like that is a sign/symptom of anemia. That might be worth mentioning to your friend.

sorry! I responded via email and, while I sometimes check for other responses first, I didn't this time. I see the anemia has been mentioned, and that you called your friend about it. (btw...I know someone personally who ate ice and she was, in fact, anemic).

I love ice cubes! Usually, I suck on them until they are smaller and easier to chew. I rely on them in summer and when I am pregnant. There always has to be some in the freezer so that when the mood strikes, I can attack them!lol. It is actually a very good way of keeping your fluids up, especially if you get bored just drinking water. A few years ago, I went through a phase of filling a cup with ice and then pouring pure cordial over the top. It was so yummy! lol. By the time I'd eaten most of the ice, the cordial was perfect for drinking, and still super chilled!

Not really, no. I'd be the person that would bite and break a tooth. That isn't my idea of fun.

Well if it is too hot weather, i like keeping them in my mouth, but i dont like much to bite them.Unless they are small enough to not slip from my teeth when i attempt it, of course. However, when others do it its kinda annoying me, because of the sound.

I enjoy biting into a big cylinder-shaped ice until my gums went all numb. My teeth are quite strong for that so I didn't worry about losing my teeth. Ice crumble (crushed ice) too are easier on the teeth. :-D And yummier with evaporated milk and some fruits, and corn kernels, and wait a minute, I'm drooling. Excuse me excuse me.

I do like chewing on ice cubes. I've never asked for them in a seperate glass though, I don't like them that much! If I finish a drink, and there is ice left in the glass, I chew it. Ice is actually great for people on diets. Maybe this is why your friend eats it? Ice is filling, as it fools the body into thinking it's eaten something solid. The extreme cold means that the body has to expend, on average, 40 calories worth of energy to absorb the ice cube. In effect, ice cubes can make you lose weight if you eat enough of them.

I can't bite ice cubes. If they are chipped I can a little, but I have too sensitive teeth to be able to that. I see people doing it all the time, and I wonder how they can do it. Part of me envies the ability to be able to that. I do what you do, just suck on it like candy, and then swallow when nothing left.

Ha, ha, your friend is something. Never encountered anyone who loves biting ice cubes. I'm not a huge fan of ice cubes. I prefer my beverages to be cold without the ice. I don't know. I felt the ice cubes as a nuisance blocking what should be an enjoyable drink for me.

As a kid I thought it was neat. I did it all the time. But I outgrew it. And you are right. It can really damage your teeth. I like my drinks cold. But I leave the ice in the glass.

Good morning Lordwarwizard, I hope you had a good and safe holiday. This discussion I can relate to. Years ago I use to what I call eat ice. I tell you it's just something about it if you get started eating ice you can't stop. It becomes a habit. I was told once that I might have a iron deficiency by one of the nurses I use to work with.
