Today is Memorial Day, and many people have are off from work. When I was driving to work this morning, there was virtually no traffic on the road, and I feel a little bit bad that I have to go to work.
I work on the salesfloor of a car dealership, and we rarely get holidays off. It got me curious, how many mylotters got today as a day off or who gets to work during holidays and who gets to play.
Go ahead and share. Either make me jealous or commiserate with our misfortune..LOL..

How about I make you really jealous and tell you that I nevergo to work?
Mind you, the stuff I do without leaving home to work is pretty grim. Today I've cleaned out the chickens (yuk!), cleaned out the rabbits, shifted a pile of wood and done stacks of weeding, all of it in the rain. I think I'd have rather been working in a car dealership!

I do get today off, but will most likely have to work overtime as well as a full day this coming Saturday to make up for the lost time. Given the state of a lot of businesses at the moment, I'm not going to complain that we are too busy, plus the extra money is always nice.

Well I do work some holidays, but I might get some days off. It depends on a couple of factors...what DAY the holiday is on, and if any of the night women I work with want to have that holiday off, and all of the other 3 women I work with have kids so...they usually would want holidays off, especially the big ones (christmas, thanksgiving, etc.)
I worked last night during Memorial Day, so I'll get Holiday Pay for that, which is good for me. Honestly my family doesn't do much for Memorial Day.

Yeah that's how I feel! lol. I know it's important, but it isn't a holiday I mind working on, especially since I get holiday pay.
I think i did work last christmas, not sure about Thanksgiving though, those ones sucked.

i get the today off. well, we are enjoying a three-day weekend. a much needed rest after a few weeks of intense and hard work in the office.
you probably don't get today off because your manager is thinking that there would be people going to the dealership to look for cars since a lot of us our off. they would take the time to go there and see.
i would say that you could just make the best out of it. on the plus side, THE ROAD IS ALL YOURS!

I work shift work, and we're a 7/24 shop, so, if my shift falls on a holiday, so be it, I work. Could be Christmas, New Years, whatever, so, I can relate, it's sometimes a real bummmer working when everybody else is playing.

Many people have to work on holidays. Here in Tennessee one county or a school had to attend on Monday.
It is a National Holiday. I think that all schools should be out and if a place of employment can let people off they should.
But then, that's just me. I didn't get off on jobs I had in earlier years of working. The last job2 jobs I had I was off on holiday unless I chose to work. This is the way it should be. Ask for volunteers if the company has to stay open.

We don't get a lot of holidays off (6 days out of the year, and that's it), but we did have Memorial Day off. It was nice to have that three day weekend, especially since last week at work was very packed for me.
My fiance, on the other hand, didn't have the day off. He works in fast food, though, so that's not surprising.

Since I work from home, I can take it off. But many of my friends and family had to work. My sister works in a hospital. She had to work. My husband got it off and we had a nice day together.

I work in a group home caring for MR/DDP and do NOT get holidays off unless requested well in advance and even then it would be iffy. We are so short staffed that it almost takes all of us working 3 shifts to cover on regular days.
So I went to work today and I'll have to go tomorrow or I won't get the holiday pay.

I get the bank holiday off and get paid for it and it i worked over time i would get double pay and paid for the holiday, so basically triple pay. I decided not to take it though and just relax with a few drinks at home

I also think that I need vacation and holidays at times. However, when I think of the rising prices of all the good these days, I tend to think again. Anyway, I am still looking forward for a vacation on August, October or December. It depends on my schedule. I just want to spend more time with my family.

I own my own internet based business, so I can choose weather or not to take the day off. Of course when you own your own business you are never truly off all day. I still have to be available to customers, and if too many orders come in it might be wise to work for at least a couple of hours. Lucky for me there were no customer issues today. I did work for about an hour and a half this morning but then took the rest of the day off.

I don't get holidays off I have to work them. I hate this cause who wants to be at work when they can be home w/ family and friends. I have grown used to working holiday's in my
5 yrs at work now that it really dosn't faze me any more it's not like I can get out of it. Plus I will lose my holiday pay if I call out I think that the only main reason why I go in.
