In the house that we used to live at the microwave was built in and I fixed microwave popcorn in it all the time. Then we moved and there is not a microwave here.I went out and bought one. But,the popcorn does not cook.I have put it on high temp instead of popcorn setting.I have tried double and triple time.Has anyone else ever had this problem? What did you do?

Some of the smaller microwaves don't have enough wattage to pop popcorn - but you would think that if it has a popcorn setting that it would do it! I have also run across boxes that most of the packages inside do not pop well - I don't know if the could be old or not stored propertly before thy got to the store of what, but they just don't pop. Have you tried another brand?

I knew someone who could make popcorn by placing the kernels in the frying pan and cooking them in hot oil! His poopcorn was the best and I was very impressed. You can try different brands and read the instructions carefully. They're very particular in the way they should be prepared. I used Orville Reddenbackers, but I don't remember how to spell it! Paul Newmans' brand never worked for me. The popcorn setting on my microwave never worked, maybe you can ignore it and find your way by trial and error. You can also buy a hot air popcorn machine, but the popcorn is a bit plain.

We used to pop popcorn in the skillet like that all the time - I'm telling my age here, but that was before popcorn poppers and microwave popcorn! My grandma used to pop it in the skillet in REAL BUTTER - which is hard to do without burning it - but hers was very good!

popcorn popper - a machine that pop's corn
I bought a small microwave because that is all that I can afford and had no one to help me bring it up the steps for me.It has a popcorn setting.I eat Orville Reddenbachers Buttery Garlic Popcorn,it is great. We used to fix popcorn with oil in the pan, that was the origional way to make it till they came out with popcorn popper's.My mom got for Christmas one year a machine that had a black base, that's what got hot and a see thru glass dome that fit on top. When it got done popping, she turned it off, unplugged it and turned it upside down. Then she turned off the base and the dome doubled as a serving bowl.In later year's I got n air popper that had a butter melting tray on it.

Sorry to say but this is the most bizarre discussion - popping popcorn in a microwave! :¬) Sorry dfollin, don't mean to be down on you :¬) it is just that where I grew up we never had microwave popcorn and in fact it was only when I was in my early 20's when I went to the US that I discovered microwave popcorn. Yes it is a wonderful invention and my favourite thing in the world - sometimes... I even wait till the kids are at school or asleep before cooking it so I don't have to share with them - selfish hey? Guess I am getting old!

If it is only the popcorn and you don't pop corn much, then I would keep playing with it. Did it come with an instruction book? The popcorn setting in every microwave I ever had worked. Does it cook everything else OK? Is it your popcorn? Every once in awhile there is a bad bag out there. You could try another microwave and make sure it's not the corn itself. If it cooks everything badly, then I would return it. Take care

Everything else I have to cook a bit longer.I have done about 5 bags of popcorn and they all cook the same way only about one fourth of it cook's.I have ran it longer and emptied it a bowl and tried to cook it all it does is burn the already popped pieces.

Sounds like it's heating just the outside enough and just drying out the rest of it. Then you cook it longer and it burns. Your choice, keep it and find another way to cook popcorn or return it and get a better model.

hi-queen of the dysfunctional appliances here. lol I once got rid of a microwave cause it set the popcorn bag on fire!! I have a hot air popper now-its really cool. I tell everyone to run when its popping because it will occasionally shoot out a hot kernal! :)

Yes,we've had all of those over the years. A couple of years ago I bought another one something like the dome kind - its a Cuisinart (sp?) but it doesn't have the little think on top to put butter in to melt it down over the popcorn like the old Stir Crazy poppers had.

Cuisinart Popcorn Popper - Dome style popcorn popper.
You miss understood, the dish for melting the butter was on my air popper, not the dome popper.

We had both an air popper and a dome type that had butter things on top - the dome one had small holes in the butter compartment where the butter could drip down on the popcorn as it popped.

I just have a small microwave and it pops the popcorn just fine. I have never had any troubles. I don't have a popcorn setting, I just pop it on high.

Maybe there is something wrong with the microwave you bought. Did you try to have it checked? I have seen my friends cook popcorn on the microwave but they cook on our microwave..or better yet maybe check if the popcorn is expired. I wonder now why they don't cook on your microwave.hmmm...

We have a built in microwave in our home also and it has a button on it just for popping popcorn. I love it because it never gets burned. I just have to push one button and wait for the timer to stop and it is ready. I used to have the same problem on the other kind of microwaves that do not have the popcorn setting. It gets burned or does not pop all of the kernels.

i have..i usually put it on for 2 minutes and just stand by and listen.it seems like some of the popcorn brands have thicker shells or something, takes longer.i've never found that popcorn setting to be exactly right.

Hi there. I cant say I have had that problem with cooking microwave popcorn before I refused its presence in our house. The one thing I cant stand is the smell microwaved popcorn gives off. It kind of smells like chuck, thats why I refuse to have it in our house. We just go and buy a large already made pack. Have a great day, and all the best with that pop corn...

I use to have a problem with this not popping correctly in the microwave. And I noticed that it popped okay in microwaves with glass turn tables. So if you don't have a glass turn table, put a glass pie plate or something similar and turn it upside down and put the popcorn on it and then try popping it. Hope you get some good popcorn this way! I know it works for me.

No but it could be something wrong with the machine. That is the first time that i have know a mircowave that does not pop popcorn. Just from the title of the discussions got me popping a bag right now. I know that was frustrating for you. Do they still sale the jiffy pop that you can do on the stove? That would be a good alternative for not being able to use the microwave; just until you find out what is the problem.

I too have recently bought a new microwave because ours just gave up on itself lol well stopped working.. I have the same problem too when it comes to popping microwave pop corn I just set it on pop corn time and leave it go.. there really is no other way around it you can set it for more time but it just burns... I just do with what pops and what don't.. It sometimes is a waste but other times it's not so bad..

It sounds like your new microwave has a lower wattage than your old one. You may have to cook it longer. It will be a trial and error thing until you get it right. Arrrf....I know!

If the popcorn does not pop,you either have a bad batch of popcorn or that micro-wave is no good...I would buy a new bag and if it does not pop back to the store with that mirco wave, something is very wrong....

I used to have the opposite problem with a microwave that we had. It would burn the popcorn before it even popped half of it. I stared cooking it on the stove top after that.

Never had that trouble. It sounds like your microwave needs to be taken back to the store where you bought it from. May have a malfunctioning part or something. If you have your receipt the store will usually exchange it for another one or give you your money back. Good luck!

some popcorns require a certain wattage, and all microwaves are different, check your microwave and then buy the popcorn that fits your microwave, but lol why do you eat so much popcorn, i just go to te movies for mine, cause i love how they put butter in it.
