When my first time used paypal, I felt paypal is very convenient and secure way to send and to receive money online, and it's free. But, I started to disappoint about paypal after I updated to premium account. Paypal charges me every time I receive money. Then I started to investigate, I found out that paypal has three different types of accounts which are personal, premium, and business. With personal, it's free to send and to receive money, but there is limitation for receiving money from others and other countries. With premium/business, it's free to send money but not free to receive money. The basic fee of receiving money online is 2.9%+$0.30, that's just the certain amount of money you receive from others. In other certain amount of money, it may charges you more. Therefore, paypal is not really free although they said it's free. In fact, it's not 100% free. Even though it's not 100% free, I still use paypal because paypal is convenient and secure way to send and to receive money online.

I have been using PAYPAL for my eBay business for not less than 5 years. It is convenient but not free especially when you are not domiciled in USA. Whenever I make transfer to the local currency I am alway feel very painful for the exchange rate losses as compared to the rate offered by the local bank. In fact according to my calculation PayPAL make at least UD1,500 per month from me for exchange rate conversion apart from the fee I have to pay them.
Right, so far I cannot find any comparable service provider so no choice have to stick to PAYPAL

I guess that would be outside of the UK for me then, as I am a UK resident. I think sticking to a basic account prevents you from using Paypal on your own site too.

Not upgrading your account, that's fine. But remember if you don't upgrade your account, you can only receive 5 payments from outside the United States per year. Also, other disadvantages but I forget. But you can view their rules from your account.

They may say free, but nothing is really free anymore. Many of these companies have hidden fees.If you look at the credit companies it's the same thing or worse.

Well I am working with Paypal and having no problems yet. Maybe because I have a personal account which is free with my limited transactions. But since you have a premium account, you will have to pay something for it. All banks charge for their services if the account is more than minimum transactions.

Yeah, I have a premium account, and it charges me for every time I receiving money online. I remember a time my item has sold on ebay for $0.30, but when I check my account for it, I got nothing. The fee charges $0.30, that's why I got nothing out of it. It seems like I sell for free. If every other item charges like that, I wouldn't get any income out of it. Then, how do I keep my business running?

I think PayPal is a great service. So many companies are using it online now. That makes it easier. The security and ease of transaction are a definite plus. They ARE a business, not a charity, so of course they charge a fee.

I have only been charged a fee when I was paid from a PayPal business account, usually I receive the full amount. I have to change dollars into British pounds and I think the rate of exchange gives an advantage to PayPal. I also have to pay an extra charge if I withdraw less than £50 ($100) to my bank account. Apart from that it is free!
I still prefer PayPal to all other forms of internet payment. It is so easy and reliable and I can pay or get paid in any currency. Yes on the whole I really do like PayPal.

If you are just using Paypal occasionally, you should be fine with the free personal account. I upgraded to one of the other accounts at one point, in order to accept credit cards for ebay sales, but found it was not worth the fees, for the small amounts I was dealing with. I found it easier to just refuse credit cards (ebay does not allow U.S. users to charge a fee for credit card payments). I honestly do not remember what the limitations are on the personal account, other than not being able to accept credit card payments, but I think for most people, a personal account is just fine.
I also do believe it is safe, as long as you are careful. I do know someone who supposedly lost money from her bank account through Paypal; she was not too smart and I think it is likely she fell for one of those phishing emails.

I don't like paypal. One day I sent $0.02 to another paypal accout. But the latter received nothing because the $0.02 was taken as change fee and became the paypal's money. Paypal use our accounts money to do their benefit, such as loan to others. Is it the united states, why they take tax from our transactions? Good luck to you!

Well, of course they are going to charge fees? How do you think they stay in business? It's not free, you know? Banks charge fees, that's how they pay employees and stockholders.
Why do people expect businesses to be free yet still be profitable? That's just common sense.

Well, it's like they say, before you sign a contract, read the fine print. They say it's free, 'cause a basic account IS free. The moment you want more privileges, you have to pay. And I think that's nothing but normal. If you're not a businessman you can do fine with a personal account. I sure have for 3 years already.

We have a paypal account because we sell on ebay all the time and I hate the fees. I would like more people to start using RME because they do not charge at all. The customer service is excellent. Plus anyone you refer to set up an account RME will give you $10.00.

RME is also known as Revolution Money Exchange. They do not charge to transfer money from person to person like paypal does. You deposit money into the account like paypal and you can withdraw the money as well. You can use it to shop online as long as the site except RME which you would see the RME on their page as an accepted for of payment. They have customer service available and you can even contact them by phone. So far the only different is they do not have a dispute center like paypal. It's basically like a bank but you can't walk in to make a deposite lol. They seem good so far and like I said everyone that signs up for RME under your referral, RME gives you $10 up to $500.

I would be worried if they did not charge a fee! How would they stay in business if they did it for free?
