Are You an Optimist,Pessimist or a realist?
Optimistic approach = I can do it again .
Pessimist = Well, I knew that wasn't going to work. Nothing I ever do works out. Why do I even bother?
Realist = Ooooohhh DARNIT! That's annoying, but that's life. I think I'll just do it again, and hope it turns out next time.
Well I hate to say it but the biggest part of the time, I myself am a Pessimist. I do not want to be, but it seems all my life things just have gone wrong, so I just assume the worst.I really do wish I did not think this way, I do not even know how to get out of this cycle I have been in so long.

i think im all three.. im optimist in trying to ignore or have hope for the bad things im dealing with. im a pessimist in the fact that i think of worst case senerio for everything and people label me realist a lot since i dont get my hopes up unrealistically and yet still see the situation with out total failure..
guess it depends on the mood and who im being observed by lol.. and the topic

I would have to say that for the most part I'm a realist, but I'm also an optimist. I used to be really pessimistic, but I got out of that by figuring out that not everything is going to go well, but then again it just might. Hope for the best, expect the worst and land somewhere in between, that's one of the things my mom taught me and she is an optimist, my dad on the other hand was always a pessimist lol. I found that being a pessimist all the time will keep you from attempting new things, and you never know what you might have missed out on.

I'm definitely an optimist - much to the chagrin of my family. They've called me Ms. Merry Sunshine for years (when they're okay with the optimist in me) and Pollyanna (when they're not). :-)
I can help it. I learned long ago that any bad experience can be a great life lesson. The bad thing is that I tend to forget the bad stuff. I'm trying to work on that. You can dwell on the bad, but if you forget it you're bound to make the same mistakes.

Hi!
I'm Realist, I'm sure that! The biggest problem to be a realist one is: the reality is cruel, too cruel! So, if you're a Pessimist, Ok, everything already lost, there's no escape and you already know that! If you're a Optimist one, Ok, you're a happy guy!
But if you're a Realist one, oh S**t!! Sometimes you think everything is gonna be all right (or not), but in the end anything stays right and you suffer two times!!!
Oh, if I were Optimist........

i am learning to be an optimist as i think it is more profitable for me... but of course realistically... i can't be over-optimist... that will lead to over-confident and pride which is not good... i used to be a pessimist... but i learn step by step slowly to change... it is really hard... takes lots of will and determinations to be able to change the way you think... good luck and have a nice day...

I'm a bit of a mix between a pessimist and a realist. I realize that life does not always work out right and that sometimes it takes a bit of hard work to get what you want or need. However, I'm also a pessimist because no matter how hard I try something always messes things up for me and I never seem to get anything good out of the work that I do. So I don't see why I bother doing things sometimes because it obviously gets me nowhere.

I don't really know which one I am. One thing I do know is that I'm stubborn and I will keep at a thing until it works. I never let any roadblocks stop me so you might call me dogged. I never jump ahead and say, 'it cannot be done' until I have tried doing it a couple of hundred times; then I decide it can't be done those couple of hundred ways. Call me stupid. When a thing is beyond me I rarely attempt it. I study it as best I can without touching it and then I call a professional or someone who knows what he's doing. Then I watch how he does it and ask questions and learn more about it so I can do it myself the next time the problem repeats. Call me scaredy cat.

I think I am an optimist/realist. Though my oldest daughter would probably say I am all optimist! We have this conversation all the time. She is one of the world's worst pessimists! But, I am glad to say, she is trying very hard to overcome negative thinking. She is doing really well, too! My Mom is more of a pessimist, too. My Dad was the optimist.
Being a pessimist can not only bring you down, but everyone around you. I'm not one of those optimists who is blind to everything bad going on, though. I can't stand those types myself! I think that is where the realist kicks in. I just choose to find something positive in most things. The power of positive thinking is really a wonderful thing to have and I feel blessed for having it.

I am like you, mainly a pessimist, I too am this way because no matter what I do I fail at it and it has happened so many times that I no longer look for the positive things in life I automatically assume the worst. Why? simply because by doing this I cannot be hurt or disappointed.
A hard way to be, but when you have suffered hurt and disappointment and failure time after time it becomes a way of protection, then nothing that happens bothers me. If by any chance it does go right for me then it is a nice surprise!

gemini,That is how my life has been so far too.I do not run around with a frown on my face or anything like that. I am a happy person. But I do fail at everything, and nothing ever goes right. I must fight for everything I get.I too have suffered so much and been hurt so many times.I am trying to protect mysefl as well.If anything good does happen, i then am excited.

sunkissed_ You're very perceptive, realising our lives do run in cycles, or circles if we don't facilitate change.
When you're in the down cycle, it's a tremendous effort to change your mind, which in turn changes your life.
It's much easier to hold onto what we believe to be true, rather than have the courage to see positivity in our lives. It's exhausting staying on the down side. The weight of past experiences threatens to bury us. Every moment we spend in downtime decreases our chances to see life in a new way.
I hate looking up because it signifies one more chance to get hurt. But, I'm so tired of looking down, I think I'm ready to look up and start believing in who I really am once again.
Something will come your way. You might not recognise it as an opportunity to change. If your head is up and you reach out for a positive energy, it will come to you.
One more point_ from another discussion, the topic of expectations was discussed. It's best not to have any. Just let life happen. This is a fine line for me because no expectations borders on the pessimism that life has nothing to offer me. I know that's faulty thinking.
I try everyday to look up, even though I don't like what I see. I'm trying to look with new eyes and refresh my mind, shedding past experiences that haunt me.
I'm challenged to reach out to the world and I'm afraid of what I will find. I'll be vulnerable once again. I like to think I've learned enough to not think of myself as a victim.
There I go, writing a book again! It's a good thing I don't have goals for how many posts I make. I never get anywhere. I end up hanging around and talking forever with people I care about or mylotters I can relate to.
Okay, bye.

anawar, You are right, as usual..it does take a lot of effort to change our minds, and inturn change our lifes. It is very exhusting staying on the doewn side of life.I really am tired of looking back, and remembering all the hurt and pain. But we know that we are good people, there has to be something good ot there for us.As long as our heads are down, we will never know the oppertunitys that we may miss out on.I too have found out not to expect anything any longer that way I will not be disapointed. All we can do is reach out, there is not much to lose.life is so short, we have to try to find happiness.By the way I do enjoy your books.do not stop writing them, you inspire me!!

I dont know if I can come between these two: but am parly a pessimist/Realist. Idont give up on things that easily, even though I may have to try several times. But I do find myself saying sometimes when things dont go right:" THAT IS LIFE." lol

I've always been an optimist, well, almost always. I was a realist for awhile, but the optimist in me once again raised it's bright, shiny head.
However, I've often thought that if you are an optimist, you are often disappointed. But, if you are a pessimist, you are never disappointed and often quite pleasantly surprised!
I would love to help you from being a pessimist, but I honestly can't say that I can. I do know, however, that a pessimistic attitude can sometimes bring about the thing you are pessimistic about. Like going for a job... if you think you won't get it, chances are that you won't.
On the opposite end, an optimistic attitude can actually make good things happen. Take that same job you're going for... when you have an optimistic attitude, it shows. The interviewer might just think, "I like her attitude! She's just what we need around here."
Sometimes we all have to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and put on a happy face, even if we don't feel it. It's amazing how that can bring about a happier outlook on life. If we look good, we feel better. We can't look good with a sad face, now can we?
I hope that, in some small way, I've been able to help you. Try a smile on for size and see how it feels. Do something small that you can accomplish. Accomplishment is what brings about a better attitude.
I wish you the best. Take care.

That is great that you are an optimist. This is the very best way to be in life. It is always better to think possitave about things.I do have a smile on my face though, I really am not a down person all the time.Thank you so much for the great advise.
