I have a friend who can’t take capsules or tablets. She just can’t drink it down. She said she’s scared. So what she takes is the syrup form. Do you know people like that? Whatever I tell her, she just refuses to take those capsules. She’s so afraid to swallow them.

At one time I just could not swallow any kind of tablets /capsules. It just wont go down.
So I crush them and mix them with liquids; beit juices, milk, water , soups, cereals etc. That makes it easy for me, I still do it now.

My grandmother is also afraid to take capsules or tablets. What we have used to convince her is to have some banana, put the capsules or tablets inside the banana and then eat the banana, sounds funny but she can do it.The reason why she afraid to take it directly according to her is,she afraid that it will be blocked on her throat. also sometimes if the banana is not available she put small water in a glass and dissolve the capsules or tablets then drink.Thanks.

I was like that for a long time I dont think I swallowed a tablet until I was around 15 years old. My mom used to get so angry with me growing up because she would always have to crush everything and than it tasted so nasty. I just guess I was scared to try to swallow it now I am just fine.

My husband was like that as a child. His mother would crush the tablets and sprinkle them on applesauce or something like that.
Today, it's a regular comedy show watching him try to swallow a pill! He will take them, but it takes around 3 minutes for him to actually swallow the thing!
He puts the pill in his mouth. It has to be positioned EXACTLY right. Then, he takes a big mouthful of water and tilts his head back.
THIS is the funny part... he spends a few minutes (and I'm not exaggerating!) shaking his head, first this way, then that way, up then down, back up again, tilting it left and right until he thinks that the pill is as far back as it will go and still positioned exactly right, then he'll swallow the thing. That is, if it hasn't already dissolved in his mouth!
It's a wonder he hasn't burst out laughing during these episodes because I burst out laughing.
It all stems from his fear of choking, which has never once happened to him. It's just one of his phobias, I guess. He very rarely takes pills in any form, but, man, is it ever something to watch when he does!

My mom is the same way. My younger sister was also scared to swallow pills but we eventually cured her of that. She practiced by swallowing Skittles and M&Ms. It helped because those tasted good in her mouth so if it took her a while to get it down it did not taste bad. Once she got better, she started taking pills that way and now she doesn't even hesitate when she has to swallow a pill. My mom tried the same approach but it never worked for her. She just has to chew her pills and bare the nasty taste.

I have no problem whatsoever swalling pills whether they are capsules or tablets. I just put them at the back of my mouth and just drink down a few sips of water. They just wash right down. My husband is a big baby about pills. I mean even the small ones he sticks it in his mouth and then takes a BIG mouthful of water and then does this jerky motion with his neck and head; I guess he is basically catapulting the pill down his throat. I know there are times that the pill disintegrates in his mouth. Man, I would hate to see him have to take a daily pill like a prenatal vitamin or something. When I was little I remember I used to have problems swallowing them, it was like my throat clenched up when it would go back to the throat area. I think it is a natural survival defense mechanism. But I think I got over it probably when I was pregnant with my first child as those prenatal vitamins are horse pills. Also, I have a friend that is 37 years old and she cannot swallow pills, period. She always asks the doctor for liquid amoxicillin or augmentin if she has a sinus or ear infection. Her doctor always gives her a hard time but she usually gets her way. I think she ends up drinking like a quarter cup of medicine for every dose. That is just nasty - I would rather just swallow the pill and get it over with, I don't like the after taste of liquid antibiotics. Yuck!

My fiance can't swallow pills. Even putting them applesauce it was hard for him to keep down, when he was a child. It's still hard for him to keep them down, sometimes. He's afraid to try to swallow them, I honestly don't think that he would be able to swallow them though.
Everything is usually chewable, and if not it's crushed up. He had an ear infection not long ago, and he had to go to another doctor, this doctor gave him the pill form of a medicine, and he had a hard time taking it. I ended up grinding the pill up and feeding it to him in pudding.
I used to be the same way as a kid, except I could take it in my applesauce. Usually I would swish it around in my mouth (the apple sauce and medicine) before swallowing. I eventually got used to swallowing the pill, and now it doesn't bother me at all if I have to take a ibuprofen or something like that.
The only thing i'm worried about, is our kids. I know as a kid I couldn't swallow pills, and i'm pretty sure that it's a regular for any kid, but I don't want them never to be able to. That, and I don't want them to think they don't have to because their daddy doesn't.
