I am sure this is also a result of high gas prices. She said she was at the store and this is what the milk costs. It was only a bit cheaper at another store. She lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This is insane!

That is insane! I bought milk here in Missouri the other day for $3.32 for a gallon of whole milk. The store I normally get milk at is $3.85 for a gallon. I would not be buying milk at all if it got up to $7.29 for a gallon.

Wow!!It would cost less to go buy a milk cow. Our milk is about $3.00 a gallon. Makes me wonder how much baby formula costs in Florida. I guess Mothers to be and Moms with babies might consider nursing as an option.

Oh my god! I am so glad we don't live there because my husband drinks a gallon of milk a day or more even. He drinks it and uses it in his coffee and he drinks alot of coffee. I don't think I ould be willing to pay that much for a gallon of milk. It is $5.39 a gallon at the little store in front of me which is were we get it often because we don't own a car or get to town enough to get it even if it is cheaper there at $3.69 a gallon. Whew! Seems things are getting so bad it will start to be a natural occurance to see a milk cow tied to a lamppost in the city..lol I am trying to get hubby to purpase a milk cow but he says nope. Possibly because he be the one out there milking it not me I had enough of that growing up having to milk cows at 5 in the morning and evening

I am going to quit buying milk if it reaches that much a gallon here in northwest Ohio. That is rediculous. What do they expect poor people to do? Get on food stamps? We make $100.00 a month too much to qualify per month. Maybe buying dry milk would work. Even though I do not like the taste of dry milk. I think they are taking the raising of prices of things just a little too far.

The price of everything is going up, and it is sad, to bad we cant't get a raise in pay. HOW WILL We afford all of this? I live in NY and things are getting really bad here. Cigg's here are like almost 7 bucks a pack, I myself have been rolling my own for about 5 years, but it is not enough. I need to quit. As far as food goes, well it is anyone's guess, and gas well I DON'T EVEN WANT TO TALK ABOUT THAT. What is our world coming to? All I can see at this point in time.. A depression and Ression, just like back in the day. I don't remember the depression, I was not born then, but I do kinda remember the hard times my Mom and Dad had back in the day.

I think I would start cooking with water before I paid that much for a gallon of milk. I pay $3.85 for a gallon of milk right now I suppose taht will be going up though but I don't see it going to over $7 here.

7.29!!! I would be lactose pricing intolerant after a price like that!!! I thought things were bad here in Ohio where milk is like 3.29 a gal. Something has to shake with these prices I'm getting sick!!! Soon there will be food rations!

I know she freaked out about that. Just looking at the number that is on the discussion had me like they have to be kidding but they are not. Things are going up and will continue as long as the price of gas is going up. Have a nice one.

what store charges thatmuch. I just paid five dollars for a gallon of milk, and thought that high. seven dollars, thats outrageous. Albertsons only charged me four dollars and ninety five cents for a gallon of milk one per cent.

Everything has seen a huge jump since this oil crisis. What your mother can do is see if she can buy the soy milk. It is enjoyable and much cheaper.

Wow, I'm afraid to go to the store tomorrow. I have to stock up on milk again. My kids are milk guzzlers and we go through about four gallons a week. Maintaining my car is cheaper, lol. Anyhow, milk has always been more expensive than gas. It's expensive to produce. The machinery to get the milk from the cows runs on electricity which is getting more expensive. The milk has to get to the end consumer somehow, too. The farmers themselves don't even get much. That's the pitty of it all. It's the middlemen who cash in on it somehow. In my hometown the farmers are on strike. You can only get milk if you go directly to the farmer, nothing in the store. What they don't sell they spray on the fields as fertilizers. They want their fair share of the profits. Nothing gets to the stores. We are producing for the growing demand in the Asian markets. Much of the milk is being exported. That drives up our prices as well. It buffles me that when I was little they had what they called 'milk lakes' and 'butter mountains', which were tossed in the sea because of the overproduction. Now they can't keep up with demand and Joe Average can't afford to buy milk anymore.....

I have heard that the gas prices are over four dollars, but that is no excuse to sell each gallon of milk for an extra three. Something needs to be done. The companies know that they can get away with it because milk is almost a necessity. Very few homes are without it, so like gas, people will continue to buy. But, you are right. $7.29 for a gallon is ridiculous!

$7.29 got a gallon of milk is ridiculous! I live in Alabama and our milk is right at $4 or perhaps a few pennies more. It has been that price for a long time. Milk is bought in bulk by the grocery stores, so why would it jump that high? It doesn't take that much gas to take the milk to the store.

WOW! First, I never thought I would see the day when gas prices would reach over $4.00/gal. But I NEVER thought I would see the day when a gallon of milk would cost more than a gallon of gas!! Thank goodness our vehicles tanks are not powered by milk (light humor..like 1% light)...

It is about $4.00 per gallon here in Indiana or a little more now at convenience stores around here. Every now and then you can go to Walmart and get it cheaper than that. Food and everything else is on the rise. I do not know how they expect people to live like this with these high prices. It is very rediculous. People are just going to have to stop buying some of these products. It is awful. People can barely afford to eat these days.

You are right, that is insane. OMG...I sure am glad my kids are grown now. How are family's suppose to survive if milk is 7.29 a gallon. I am sorry but it seems we are just sinking deeper and deeper. How are people going to feed their family's, if groceries get beyond their reach, it really is insane.

WOW! It was still right around $4 here but that was a few days ago. Yikes! I hope it hasn't gone up that much here. The milk we buy is local, that might make a difference. And, we really don't drink it much...mostly with cereal. One of our sons really drinks a lot, but no one else does.

What the heck? You've got to tell me what store she is going to? I live not so far from Ft. Lauderdale, and milk prices are not THAT high (though they're getting close!). Yikes!
