On a little traveled road in TURLOCK, Calif. passers by saw a man beating and trampling a toddler but they were unable to stop his. Several passerbys kept trying to stop him. Finally a police officer shot him to make him stop. It is not known how the toddler was. How far would you go to stop someone from beating trampling and throwing a child to the ground? Would you get the tire iron out of your car to hit the person? This story is so sad.

I think it is hard to say what someone would do as you do not want to make the situation worse but then at the same time I dont think I would be able to sit and watch it either. Like I said in less I was in that situation I dont know what I would do but if it meant me taking the beating instead I would trade myself for the child as as a grown up surely I would be able to with hold it a little longer than the child.

Yes it is hard to say what you would do in this situation. But sometimes we need to just act. I would like to think I would and could do something to stop some one beating a chilc like this man was. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080616/ap_on_re_us/baby_killed

This is just terriable. What in the world is going on with the people of this world today? How could anyone do this to any child, that is beyond me. I can just imigine what was going on in this little innocent childs mind, when these awful things were being done to him. Yes, I would have got out of my car and done whatever I could to help this child.I would have taken a tire iron or anything I could find at the time to get this crazy man off this child, he was in no possition to defend hisself.

The only thing that stopped the crazy man was being sho by the police officer. The people that stopped did try to get him off the baby but to no avail.

That is awful. If I saw something like this, I may try to hit the man with my car to get him away fromt he child if I could. I don't know of anything that I could do myself other than get out of the car and go and take a chance on getting him off of the child myself. I may be too scared and small to do that.

I have RA so I might not be able to do much except maybe hit him with the car. This man had to pretty strong since several people tried to stop him and he just threw them off. It took the police 6 min to arrive and shoot him.

Reading that story has my body tingling with fear/anger. I can not imagine how that poor baby felt as this man viciously attacked him. You ask if I would get the tire iron hell I would get anything that was available and take the chances of getting hurt/ or arrested. I believe at that point my mind would not be thinkin of what trouble I would get in but it would be thinkin this SOB. I do not know if I would have the control over myself not to kill him.

Some of those that stopped must have been men and theycould have taken a tire iron to him too. This all took place in the matter of 6 min.

i really don't know how to react!but beating a kid in public or even in private that much is not good...you can beat a child for discipline once on the butt and talking to him for the reason is enough..but to beat the kid so many times is bad...

There is beating and there is spanking. I do believe in spanking but beating goes over the line. No one should be beaten.

well,,i guess i used the wrong term then,,,hehehe! spanking! but just once..and always make sure the child understand the reason...also don't ever under estimate the childs intelligence...for sure they will understand!

I hadn't heard this on the news yet. How absolutely horrible! Thank heavens that some passersby tried to help, certainly they knew that he might try and beat them too for interfering. Yes, I definitely would try and stop somebody who was doing this to a poor defenseless child. I'd dial 911 and do anything I could to get that child away even if I got hurt in the process. It is heartening to know that there are still people who are willing to help in instances like that. That poor child is in my prayers and thoughts today. I'll have to see if I can find something on the internet about how the poor little tyke's doing.

Just found the link you added above and read it all. Oh mercy, that poor little child. I am just in shock after reading all of that. This is one instance where the electric chair would be too good a sentence for somebody.

Those that stopped did call 911 but it took 6 min for the police to get to them by helicopter. 6 min doesn't seem like very long but in some cases it is just too long. They don't even know who the baby belonged to or who he was.

That is a touching situation. I would definitely try to stop the abuse. Most likely with physical force. Obviously, with all the violence today, people are hesitant to get involved. A child is defenseless and therefore, we should step in.

A toddler is so innocent and no matter what wrong they have done, it could never have been bad enough to deserve a beating such as this toddler received. I hope the child is okay.

Hi deebomb, I think my first reaction would be to call the police. It is usually impossible to stop a madman, and to attack him with something might only make things worse. The only hope would probably be for several people to overpower him. Of couse it would be very difficult to watch someone harm a child like that, but when we act out of anger, we often do the wrong thing. Blessings.

It's hard to say but I would definitely not ignore it. I'd probably yell at them, screaming, freaking out and then try to get others to stop him and call the cops on my cell phone. This is horrible. I hope he goes to prison forever, no child deserves that. Some people just make me sick.

If I saw a man beating and stomping his toddler, I would first call the police. But if need be, I would definitely take a tire iron to thins man and beat him until he was off the child and on the ground..where police could pick him up off of later to take him to jail! Kids are innocent. NO toddler should be treated in this manner. I would protect the toddler. Nothing makes me madder than seeing a person/parent hitting a kid in a store or public place. I call the police!

No child should suffer what that toddler did. Stomping and being thrown to the ground is just about as bad as it can get.

I heard about this on the news. As a mother to 2 small children, this really boils my blood. I would have done ANYTHING to stop this bastage, even plowing him down with my truck if I have to. And I will if I ever see anybody hurt a defensless child.. While I feel horrible about this, I cannot even fathom the emotions the child's mother is going through right now that her little child has been ripped from her. I pray for this poor mother. My heart goes out to her and her family.. Lighting candles for the child.

I would do whatever I could to possibly help. I just hate it when some people just stand by and watch. Recently I saw on the news where an elderly gentleman was run down by a hit and run driver. People walked by him, even drove around him, but no one helped him. It was caught on tape. Whats happened to our world? What happened to compassion?

I saw that too. I think our compassion went out the window when we took prayer out of the schools. And TV has gotten so violent the we are becoming immune to it.

Hubby and I saw this in the newspaper and I just did a search on CNN online and found out about it. I did a search to see if someone had started a discussion and couldn't find yours until I started a discussion about this. Sorry about the duplicate. This is truly horrendous!

people like that disgust me. That toddler was defenceless. No matter if they had done something wrong, they certainly didn't deserve to be treated like that. If i had of seen it, I would have gone into super mum mode and gotten the toddler away from him. Never under estimate the strength of a woman who has kids of her own that she would protect with her own life if need be. I hope the man gets the punishment he deserves and that the toddler is ok.

Yeah, I saw that. Truly sad, but at least that little one doesn't have to suffer any more. It has to make you wonder why some parents have kids.

That is a horrible story. I could not imagine being a witness to such brutality. I would like to think I would have done what ever I could have to try to get him to stop including a tire iron. My heart goes out to that poor child.

I read this story in the newspaper this morning when I woke up and was brought to tears! I'm currently pregnant (due any day now) with our first child and had to read the story to my fiance while he got ready for work. I simply cannot comprehend the motives for a grown adult man to do such a thing to a small defenseless child. From what I read in the story, the child was only about 1 or 2 years old and was beaten so severely, it will need DNA testing to get an ID. This was a horrible story. I also do not understand how the witnesses were not able to stop this man from this act. I am not a big strong person but I would have used whatever I could to get this man to stop even if it meant using the tire iron you mentioned in your post. What is going on in this world?

Here is an up date. Sometime when someone has gone off the deep end they have an adrenaline rush and become extra strong.http://www.lcsun-news.com/apcontent/ci_9608130

I believe all persons in their right mind with any kind of values would and should sacrifice themselves for the life of an inocent child being abused. I most certainly would breakout the tire iron or whatever was handy to render this evil man incapable of doing further harm. The only thing I didn't understand was why "several" passerbys couldn't stop this maniac....

Dee here is what I don't understand "Ramar has been placed on paid administrative leave, a routine response for officer-involved shootings." The officer was only doing his job.. If I was an officer and the man wouldn't stop I probably would of done the same thing.. I guess even the police aren't allowed to do there own jobs to protect people.. I mean what if that guy finished what he was doing and took after someone else.. Than what they wouldn't have a choice I don't believe.. Sometimes though things just don't make sense someone does there job and than called a bad guy for doing so..
