Do you finish off your food completely? Or do you waste fooD?
In our community it is believed that people should not waste food as there are many people who are starving without food.
If we waste food we are committing a gross injustice to those unlucky people. We are supposed to clean our plate thoroughly.
So I dont waste food AND i take only what i want and i make sure i finish it thoroughly. I know of many people who would waste half their food.
What is your idea about this?

Hie Naseeha, I will always make sure I don;t as it has been a habit already since my parents esp. my mum was very strict about this when I was a child.
Yes, it is wasteful and disrespectful to the food and more so to the unfortunate people.
I find it is a compliment and appreciation to the person who has cooked or prepared the food when I enjoy eating up all that was served to me. And it is good to eat with friends and family members as I would share my meal with them if I know I won't be able to finish up by the end of it.
Servings of food nowadays is scary too, it is getting into huge sizes and encourages food wastage. So it is certainly would help if people is initiative enough to tell beforehand. I usually will take half portion of the usual servings of food if the places I go to allows it.
And I believe if the children are taught and trained properly about, they will grow up to be a responsible and caring adult.
Cheers and happy posting!

We try to not waste food here in our home, when company comes to eat with us I always try to send what we won't eat later with them. I have every year made a small donation to feed the children as I feel it is a worthy cause for those that don't have enough. I wish I could help out more but funds are tight as it is.

oh yes... i definitely do... i always clean up my plate until it is really clean when i eat... i don't like to waste food as i think it is a sin... food is a blessing from God and we can't just waste it like that where there are many people out there who are in poverty and can't even afford to buy food... i really feel very annoyed when i eat in a restaurant and i see people leave their plate still half-full... it is such a waste... take care and have a nice day...

I eat everyting on my plate. Of course I am the one who fills my plate so I can't complain about what is on there. I only take what I know that I'll eat, and I eat all that I take.

Yes I do eat everything that I have on my plate. I was brought up to not waste anything, whether it be food or anything. So for me, I cautiously take foods of what I can only eat. And if ever I am full and there is still food left on my plate. I take some time off and after awhile I will finish everything on my plate. I do not leave the table if there is still food on my plate.

Yes I do. Mostly, because I'm greedy and on a diet , and I want and need every crumb. When i have had to waste or throw away food, I will feel real bad about it. We were raised that wasting food was a sin. Especially, as it were then, and it is now so many people who wish that they had 1/4 of what we regularly throw out. It's easy not to, just get in the habit of not overloading your plate.

I try very hard not to waste any food. I never cook myself more than I can eat, so that it won't be wasted. Or, if I do, I make sure it is food that I can eat as leftovers later.

yes dear naseeha . one should not waste a single rice on the plate. some may consider it otherwise if you wipe out your plate clean while eating but it should be criminal waste to leave food in the plate which could have otherwise be used to fill some bodys belly.well it is most common in western cultures . statistics prove that they are throwing more food than anyone else. it can be utilised to feed the underprivileged.

We were taught when we were young that you only took the amount of food that you felt you could eat, and if you took food out onto your plate you were expected to eat it.
The food that was left in the serving bowl at the end of the meal was often saved and warmed up to use again (leftovers), and if food was taken from the bowl and not eaten, it couldn't be put back in the bowl and was therefore, wasted.
We continued this way of thinking into adult life and continue to believe this way is best. Whenever it can be avoided, we do not waste food.
We also believe that if we have extra of something that we can't use up before it spoils, we will offer it to a friend or neighbor who can use it.

well i am aware and do feel there are so many poor people out there who do not have food to eat, i am not really a waster of food. However i do have a dirty habbit of always leaving a little food lke the crums on my plate all the time. I must try to stop doing that though.

Hi naseeha
I also agree with you that we should not waste food. I always finish what I take in my plate. I take only that much i could finish. There are a lot of people who do not have a mouthful of food. In my society also wasting of food is considered as a sin.

i definetly DON'T eat every morself on my plate lol. I usually end up leaving half of my food. But what I dont understand is why people say CLEAN UR PLATE THINK ABOUT THE POOR PEOPLE! It's not like they will get the food if we don't finish it. We should eat enough to fill ourselves up but don't overeat. It won't help anyone.

Why should we put the food that can satisfy someones hunger into the drain?
You can always eat how much ever you want and you can give the remaining food which you do not need to some poor person in your neighbourhood.
Atleast their hunger will be appeased and they would be thankful to you.
