I'm so excited that I just had to share my good news
After what seems like weeks of paperwork hassles, we finally signed the papers yesterday and tha farm I've been using as the basis of all my plans is now mine. Unbelievably, the seller actually forgot to take the keys to the appointment though! We ended up goivn back to his place after signing before we could go down there and finally get inside again.
I've spent all day down there today (hence it's now after 2am here!), sweeping up prehistoric spiders from the corners and batting fossilized bats down off the ceiling. Tomorrow's job is to start ripping the floor out!
So I'm not going to be around so much for a wee while. There's just too much to do.
So, anyone else had any good news they'd like to share?

Congradutions on your new farm. I can imagine how excited you are even though I've never have a farm or something else.
i'm a Chinese, the farmers in China have no right to have their own farm, they can just rent the land from the government. i'm sure they also want to have a private land just as you.
so you are lucky, by the way, is the boy in the phote your son?
so lovely!

Thanks for your congratulations Andy. It's interesting to hear how things work in other countries. I'm hoping to rent some land next door from the local council, but I'm very glad that I'm able to own my land outright.
Yes, the photo is of my youngest son showing off his table manners

Yes I was aware of the one child rule in China. It's certainly a way of dealing with population growth. A very different set of rules to those governing us in Europe.
My farm is actually in Portugal. A bit misleading I'm afraid! Come and visit if you ever make it out this way

i feel excited to hear so many interesting staff in England too, Because i haven't been to there before and always looking forward to.
There are always so many difference between the nations, and I'd like to hear some more stories of you.
to be honest, i have to admire you.you have at least one child since you mean" the youngest son", but in China ,it's not allowed to have a second child in a city.

Well I hope that you've got it all looking good. We (My fiance and I as well as his parents) live across from a farm and I know i'd like to go help, but I know they have enough farm hands. I've always loved farms, ever since I Was a little girl. Well I hope you get all the disorder restored. Have a Great and Hopefully Restful day!

Congratulations on the new farm. Now make sure of one thing that you grow a nice garden when the weather is right for one. That is one thing that all farms should have is a good garden. Will you have live stock on your farm too? Well what ever you decide to do I wish you all the luck with your new farm. Happy Farming!!!

This year I'll be sticking withe the veg garden I have growing where I am just now as I've just too much else to do at the new place, but certainly growing a garden for ourselves will be up there on my list of things to do.
The long term aim is to keep free range Iberian pigs, but first step is to make the house habitable.

That's wonderful, congratulations!! Sounds like you plan to work on it a lot. When you get back or have a break and stop in here, please tell us what you're going to do with it--are you remodeling the house? Are you going to grow things or have livestock or both?
I'm very happy for you!

That sounds great. I like the fact that the pigs will be free range, it's awful to shut animals up in pens. So it's a meat/vegetable farm! You have a lot of hard but rewarding work ahead of you.

Thanks for the congratulations. Yes, it does need allot of work to make it habitable, but we'll be moving our caravans down there shortly so we are not needing to drive back and forth every day.
Our aim is to run free range Iberian pigs. It's partially forested, so it's ideal for that. Of course, we'll be needing to grow additional food for them and a veg garden for ourselves too.

Well this is intended as a working farm, so no reduction in workload there!!
It's about an hour from the nearest large town / city, which suits me fine!
And no internet, telephone or electricity just yet. I'll be installing solar, but I'm not sure whether broadband will be available there yet.

That is great news! I also have a farm of sorts. It belongs to my brother and he has graciously asked me to help him with it. He spends for everything and we split the proceeds from the harvest. He decides what to plant. I do the research, sourcing of planting materials and the legwork and everything else except do the planting, there are workers for that. Aside from what we decided to plant which is bananas, I also wanted to raise tilapia because there is a good water source but he doesn't care for that so we are planting bananas without any distraction from the tilapia. Congratulations!

Thankyou so much Harmony, I'm thrilled to bits.
It's intended that we will run free range Iberian pigs in the long term, but of course to keep costs down we'll also be growing their feed where possible. I have a veg garden and chickens and rabbits where we are just now, but I'll be transferring all that over there too as soon as we can start staying there overnight.
I also want a donkey, but my OH doesn't agree so I'm still working on that one! We have made enquiries about our first cow already though

Grats on your new farm! I'd love to have a farm but I don't think that will ever be in the stars for me. I'm green with envy and I wish you the best. :-D

Congratulations! That sounds awesome. Sounds like you have a lot of work cut out for you too! We just signed a purchase agreement on an old plantation home, circ. 1860! We should be closing the deal in July. I can't wait to start moving in! We will only be there for the weekends for awhile though. We need to get our current home remodeled and on the market. I don't want to be paying two house notes long!

Congratulations! It is so nice to have the space to become more self-sufficient. It's a comforting feeling when you know you have room to have a garden, or raise chickens, or other meat sources. It's definitely a great help with the grocery budget!

That is so wonderful Greenmoo. Such an exciting venture. I hope that everything gets up and running soon and that your first day at market as farm owners is a spectacular success. I do believe that I am envious. LOL. Now, Ruby's started a discussion looking for you. I'd better tell her to tune into the Archers!

good day... Congratulation for the farm, it's a good investment. I also dream of owning one where I can till the land, raise some livestocks and enjoy the fresh air, the sun rise and the sunset. It's a lot of hard work but it's a work worth taking. Good luck and God Bless.
