He wasn't the very first one, but later became Bozo the clown and bought the rights and sold the licensing rights to other tv stations to use. He was 83. I remember Bozo the clown show from childhood. I'm really telling my age now! LOL,

My heart is breaking. I watched a different Bozo, Bob Bell on WGN Chicago, as a child, but the real Bozo is gone and that is heartbreaking.
This, however, is very interesting:
"Bozo — portrayed in Chicago for many years by Bob Bell — was so popular that the waiting list for tickets to a TV show eventually stretched to a decade, prompting the station to stop taking reservations for 10 years. On the day in 1990 when WGN started taking reservations again, it took just five hours to book the show for five more years. The phone company reported more than 27 million phone call attempts had been made."
Had Larry Harmon not seen the potential and good in what he was doing, Bell would not have been able to be "Bozo the Clown," loved by millions.

I have been reading about this on a board for fans of a local oldies/pop music sation. My usband posted a similar ticle to the board his morning. It seems ot a day goes by when we don't lose a celebriy of some sorts.

I have a really funny story about Bozo the clown.
My cousin loved Bozo and my Granny had red hair. She use to keep it combed up on the top of her head and get it styled only once a week. She was combing her hair out one time to get ready to go to the beauty parlor. My cousin was 6 or 7 and she said "Gee Granny you are so Beautiful you look just like Bozo the clown." We laugh ever time we talk about the story. Granny took it in stride and thought it was so funny also.
