I was always told that gambling is a sin.I buy a lottery ticket a couple times a week at a dollar each and maybe a couple of scratch off tickets at a dollar each.I don't go spend my rent or grocery money playing at an online or offline casino. And think about the book of Job in the bible,God bet with the devil. What do you think?

Hi my friend,
I don't think that gambling in itself is a sin. I was brought up Catholic and if gambling was a sin, the church wouldn't have had all those bingo games. lol
I believe that gambling can be a very dangerous addiction. Especially if people get into gambling so much that they gamble away their income for their families. I feel that you buying an occasional lottery ticket or two does not make you a gambler at all. Good luck and I hope you win big one day!
Have a great day!

If a person can afford to gamble (Im not sure never met a person that could) I think they should think twice about it....So many children are homeless these days and atending school....I wouild prefer to take the gambling money and give it to someone to have a hot meal or maybe a winter coat, or donate to the food banks, salvation army, rescue mission...There are so many people in this country going through hardship through no fault of thier own and could use a friendly place, and an extra meal...And if you dont have none how about donating your time.....One never knows when it can be you in need....Doesnt it make more sense to be loving and show God's word, through kindness, selflessness and compassion! I pray for all the people that are hurting terribly in this world....May God bless us all and may we all give back through God..Amen

I think people should be able to spend their hard earned money any way they please. I've always found it a little odd that, here in Georgia, sports gambling is illegal, yet there is a lottery every single day of the week. I really fail to see the difference.

I see people that buy $100 worth the lottery ticket each week!Even if I had it,I think I could find something better to spend it on. I have bought lottery ticket, scratch offs, entered sweepstakes and played bingo.I have not played bingo for a long time.My husband knew that I liked to play bingo and so did my sister. He gave me money and told me that he'd watch the baby(this was about 10 years ago).Call my sister and have fun.I have not had the money or time to play since.

I don't believe that gambling is a sin and I also buy scratch off tickets once in awhile, but I never win more than a couple of bucks. We go to the casino on the Seminole Indian reservation once or twice a year and I usually end up breaking even or leaving a big loser!

I think if gambling is a sin, then Catholics better stop hosting all those Bingo games
I cannot see where it would be a sin, it may become an addiction for some and that's not a good thing. And, you're right, God and the Devil were gambling!

Honestly, I don't think it is a sin, I think it is stupid. It is the easiest way to lose your money. But there are many who enjoy it.And as long as you Can lose the money you gamble with, then it is okay.

I have always been taught the same way, that it is a sin....I don't really see the harm in buying a lotto ticket, and they say Bingo is gambling but i still like to play anyway....I use to be real strick about this however at my church they were buying tickets to win a guilt, and the proceeds were going to buy things for the kids but its still gambling to me..If they can do it at church well i suppooss it is ok to buy a lotto ticket...And the church also has cake walks, thats also gambling...Its like swalloing a camel and choking on a nat to me...If they teach it is a sin to gamble then the church should not be betting on a guilt...Same thing!

i see no harm in a lotto ticket every now and then..

I'm not religious ao I don't see how it would be a sin. Maybe if you were spending all your money and not providing for your family, but otherwise, no big deal. I think it's just silly.

I love your Job quote... I was thinking that maybe gambing could a sin, i.e. a sin against God, but what God himself does is beyond reproach. Besides God betting with the Devil is like two old friends playing with matchsticks, who have not got any money... The Story of Job is the same as Goethe's Faust. In the end God comes and saves Faust and Job. The Devil is simply a part of God's greater plan.

I don't believe in sin because I don't believe that God would punish us, if he is all-loving and all-forgiving. I believe all things we do, good and bad, are part of our soul-learning.
Therefore, I don't think there is anything wrong with gambling, as long as you are not stealing money to do it.
