Is Chili in the summer weird?

United States

Ok I have been craving homemade chili for the past week. I bought the stuff to make it and have it cooking now. I know chili is more of a cold weather type food but really it is good all year round especially if it is homemade. Ours has ground beef, onions, kidney beans, navy beans, pinto beans, crushed tomatoes, and tomato juice and chili spices. It is going to be yummy! So is it weird to you to crave chili in the summer?

Especially here in Florida, the seasons don't really matter; it's pretty much hot or hotter, except for a couple of cool days a year. I think chili's fabulous for rainy days, or any other days. It's just plain one of the best things there is!

I agree I am in Florida too so traditional "seasons" just don't matter much. I love chili and we can eat on it for two days so it is a meal stretcher.

I remember living in Florida. A "white Christmas" was throwing sand around in the living room Every New Year's day I'd have a picture taken of me swimming in the Gulf that I'd send to my kids who were shoveling snow up North

Is it weird to want ice cream in the winter? No food belongs to any specific season. If it is what you want, go for it! I like chili, beef stew,& hot coffee in the summer as well as winter. I also like ice cream and cold drinks in winter. It's a matter of taste.

It's definitely not weird! I can eat chili 365 day a year. True Mexican chili is more like a stew...they don't use beans. I like it either Mexican style, or the better known Tex-Mex. I hate the Cincinnati style that has noodles in it. I have a secret ingredient that I learned from one of my Mexican friends that really rounds out the flavor. Add one chunk of unsweetened baking chocolate to a gallon pot of chili. You can't taste it, but it really mellows everything out and enhances everything. Now you've got my mouth going! I think tonight I'll make one of my favorites, arroz con pollo y mole chocolat (rice with chicken and chocolate mole sauce). It sounds weird, but it tastes great. The mole is made with poblano peppers and the chocolate tempers that way down.

We usually fix it here in the summer too. Chili is universal in the south! We love hot and spicy foods here. It also sounds like you have a great recipe! So, no I don't think you are strange at all :) Enjoy your chili!

I don't think so. I have chili more often in colder weather, but I sometimes want chili in the summer time too. It is especially good on a hot dog with lots of shredded cheese and onions.

I am a huge homemade chili fan. I like most things to be made from scratch though. Not much into convenience foods.

I like chili all year round as well. It's so delicious with fries or a burger. SO I can't blame you for wanting it during the summer. I'm not a great cook at all so I just go to the restaurant to get my chili fix. Most of the time, they don't serve it during the summer but I think taco bell does. Yummy! Happy cooking! Your recipe sounds delicious.:)

I do not think that it is really that strange at all. As a matter of fact it sounds like a great idea any time. I have been wanting to make some chili for a while but haven't gotten around to it. I know that it is hot in the summer but chili is a great dish all year round. I like mine spicy, how about you? Enjoy your meal! And by the way, chili usually tastes pretty good with a slice of bread with some butter.

I don't think so. I love chili and I have it all year round! I hope your chili turns/turned out okay! I've never had mine with onions. I'll have to make a mental note of that for next time.

I like it with cooked onions and I also like putting raw onions or even green onions (scallions) on top too.

I don't think it's weird, we had chili last week. I am a soup person, so I am the only person that walks into a restaurant when it's 120 outside and ask for soup! It isn't because I am cold, I just really like soup!
26 Jul 08
No its not weird. We had chilli yesterday lol. Aren't the hot spices supposed to help keep you cool?

Hey sweet, Not at all! Chili, taco salad. They are summer favorties. I love taco salad in the summer. It's so refreshing. Put some salsa, sour cream, chives. Oh, now I'm getting hungry and I have to make chicken cutlets for dinner! See what you did!I haven't had that in sooooo long. It isn't a winter food. I actually think quite the contrary. You really did leave me in the mood for some. I'll have to see about that next week. Meanwhile, you enjoy!
