Why are people attracted to making pennies an hour on the internet?

The phenomena of people spending hours on the internet to make an average of pennies an hour is fascinating to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ridiculing these people. After all, I'm on here, and I've even wasted some time here and there on PTC sites. I'm just really curious what makes us do it.
If you work really hard at it, PTC, pay-to-post, pay-to-blog, etc...can make you a few dollars a day. If you work hard mind you. It would be good to average 25 to 50 cents an hour, depending on the site. Often, it is far less than this.
I'm of course refering to people who live in countries where wages are good. I understand people from other countries coming on here for the pay that is offered, because, where they are, it can be good pay. But washing dishes for a restaurant, telemarketing,or even delivering newspapers and other such jobs in places like North America or Euorpe, will pay more in an hour than you can make here in a few days.
There is something about it that is appealing, I must admit. But what is it?

Hi.
I don't know about the other sites, but I don't feel that everyone here is here just for money. While being on Mylot has helped me in three ways. I have a faster typing speed, I am more confident with my English and I has helped in knowing what others think and believe.

well it does certainly sound like you are ridiculing...for what ever reason these people cannot find a job (or dont want to or in my case, cannot work due to injury) and this is a viable means to make a few dollars per month. do you have something better to offer???

I really like the idea of earning pennies! But that is just not the reason I do it. For places like Mylot, it is really great to meet others and hear about their culture and problems, the idea of making some pocket change is rather a cool twist. I have a plan and a system to not only earn a pocket full of change but how I am also going to invest it. YOu have to admit it really doesn't take much to make online cash. But the idea still stands: it's not what you earn, it's what you do with it!
Do you have a plan for your online income?

I agree. Who cares if its pennies a day its still money. And remember dollars are made up of pennies... And if you save your pennies you'll get dollars.. and once you got enough you can use it in investing in something else.... And once you do that then your in the money lol

I would love to take the time to figure this out: with the average interest on a savings account of 1%, how much would I have to have in the bank to allow me to earn 1 penny a day? I am making more money on the internet than my bank is giving me on my savings!!

I can earn $10 online. Take that to a Garage sale buy some junk. Sell it on Ebay and turn my $10 into $100 or more.
Somebody else can earn $1.00 online go spend it on some tomato seeds and sell them at the farmers market.
Never think Oh it's just $1 it's not worth my time. Fortunes have to start somewhere.

The other answers in this discussion have been good, but I have one extra idea that I'd like to throw out. Do you know of any job that lets you work whenever you want and which doesn't require an interview or application? Since we're on myLot, let's use it as an example. Someone could post a message here at 8 AM, 3 PM, or 2 AM and still get paid. I've never had a job that let me come in and do just as much work as I wanted (even 2 cents worth) when I wanted. myLot also lets anyone join -- it doesn't discriminate based on age, gender, disability, culture, race, etc. You don't have to please or impress anyone to be allowed to post on myLot: if you're human and have an Internet connection and can follow a few rules, you're good enough for this "job."
Another thing: I think a lot of people who make money online are like me and are trying to earn EXTRA money. That is, we aren't doing this instead of having a job but in addition to having a job. Taking a second job would require much more time and give us much less flexibility in our daily lives.

On my own opinion, I will talk about spending hours here and earning pennies. Actually, i enjoy here because i am able to share my opinions and ideas, gain insights from other people's ideas and opinions, and earning pennies at the same time. Actually, learning is something that we should always seek. And being paid for it even just a penny is a bonus. Here, i learn and earn. That is the reason i have why I stay here for hours (if my free time permits) even i am just being paid a little.

I can only speak for myself. I am burned out on traditional work at the moment and this gives me something like work to do. I think there is a way of making some money online and you have to ind the programs that will work for you. I find that my earnings go up the more that I learn from others what does and does not work online.
This is a reason for being on social forums like mylot. You can learn alot of good information as well as make "pennies."

Ive thought about this as well as the ones that say cash out at 1 cent or 50 cents. What can you really do with 50 cents? I still do it though the ones that are fun. I actually found one I make decent money at. If anyone is interested just let me know yr email address.

I can only speak from my point of view I have a job that pays the bills and what else. I only started doing this a few months ago to try it out during my spare time at home and at work.
I didn't think I would find or earn much when I started searching for ways to make money online but then found it is indeed achievable and I started a blog detailing what I had discovered to help others along in their search and also to do it as a hobby.
The extra income that I was looking for has more less become a hobby, right now I am at home and my little one's gone to bed and that leaves me with spare time to spend online and chill out. I put in a few hours here and there, it is not a job for me.
I must admit it can get quite addictive (even it being a few pennies) but I have not done too badly and my figures are on my blog but most importantly I am enjoying it

i see where you're coming from, but the trick is knowing what the right sites are, and how to do it. furthermore, if you find yourself wasting too much time, you've got to know when to walk away. i make about $500 a month with about 2-3 hours a week invested. that's roughly about $40 an hour. it wasn't always this way obviously, and when i started i was certainly doing it for pennies an hour. but i found the right sites, worked them correctly, and my activity compounded. i have a blog in my profile that explains what i use and how i use it, if anybody wants to check it out.

And you have to admit, this is a real fantastic way to attract people all over the world. It's like many people playing poker cards:no pennies, no interest.

Frankly to say,for many people from non-English countries,I believe their main idea is practising their English.
There are lots of ways to making money, obviously its not a good way to make a living, even in very poor developing country.

look all are not here just for making money. if that was the case, do you believe that so many people would have been here? here we really do not make much money for sure. but more than that we enjoy the forum, the discussions, the friends and all. all things in life can't be measured with money.

I would suppose it is because they have a hard time finding a job outside or they are unable to work, like being disabled. I will address the first one. My husband when we were in Saskatoon, was looking at the bulletin board where he worked, and there was a job at the railroad and he went and got it instantly. Before when he lived in Vancouver and in his home town, which was Saskatoon by the way, he could just go into a mechanics place or a welding place and get hired on the spot. Me, on the other hand, who was trained in a business school as a secretary and steno, had to go for weeks, knocking on doors, sending in applications, and using an Employment Agency with no results.
I would have had the same problem if I applied to washing dishes. So I figured I was unemployable and more like an independent and since I am a writer, I find that I love writing more.
It is the independence and the fact that I am not working for someone else.

because of easy money i guess, its your mind working and not your body, no physical tiredness, and it seems easy because the world of internet is just getting popular even more around the world. and you dont have to go anywhere, you can stay anywhere and it does not require anything.
