I am trying to lose weight but the other day, after about two weeks or so, I decided to bake some cookies. And instead of eating one a day or one every two days, we finished them up in two days. Now even though they were oatmeal cookies, the fact that they had sugar in them and flour even though most of it was whole wheat, I felt I should have had to resist temptation and not eat three or four of them one after the other. With chips and tacos, there is "can I afford to buy them,' but with something in the house, there is not that warning. So what do you do?

I would do so if fruit were not that expensive. I have a berry patch but I have to freeze them to get enough for the winter and I also have to buy some more blueberries. The last batch I bought in August and September of 2007 is running out, so most of the time it is either bananas, apples, oranges, or peaches when they do not cost that much.

I find it best that I don't bake if I am on a diet and try to keep fattening food out of the house too. There is no way I could bake cookies and only eat one a day or every 2 days. I love homemade baked goods. Those are a big weakness for me.

I think that is what I should do, but after about a month, it does get very tempting.

well suspenseful I don't have much trouble with cookies or most baked goods. My weak nes is Potatoes and the potato chip and some time i eat them and have gotten so i do n't buy them much any more, The other day I bought a small bag to use to coat chicken and ended up eating it all instead,. the next bag I bought I hurried up and mad into crumbs and put them in the freezer so I would leave them alone. Yes if we had the will power we wouldn't be in the fix we are in. Have you tried to cut the sugar back or used some thing like unsweetened coconut flakes or date sugar to keep the calories down Date sugar only has 20 calories as well as other nutritions. There are 774 calories in the Granulated White Sugar, 1 Cup.

I use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar, and I do cut down on it. But I have a very sweet tooth. And my problem is not just cookies it is tacos. You give me a bag of tortilla chips and watch me finish them off in one afternoon. So I hardly ever buy them, but the ingredients for cookies are in the house.

dont cost that much to make it at home and we had most of the ingredients here.
I like Hersheys Dark chocolate bars but will not buy any more since they sent every thing to MExico and ruined it all here taking it away from Hershey PA. grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I love dark chocolate, and I find it easy to make fudge, don't use a recipe, but I do not like the condensed milk fudge. I just use brown sugar, milk, butter, and nuts for mine. Have not made any in a while and I usually do that when I am more down than ever. the only Hersey;s I buy is the peanut butter cups and I bought so many trying out each different styles, that I decided to stop.

I am okay, except if I have been away from the sweet stuff for a time.
And I have to feel full. Oh and that fudge sounds delicious. I used to make a small batch and it was gone in no time, so I now I decided not to make any and if I wanted some, I would look at the price in the stores and decided not to.

I know it's hard. I am not trying to lose the weight, my doctor just told me to stay away or minimize my intake of carbohydrates. I am having the same problem. I munch and munch every now and then. What I done was told my hubby to hid the snacks somewhere and when I crave for snacks, I just drink me juice or sweet tea.

My family has a tendency to high blood pressure and diabetes, and I heard that bad carbs do not help any. I would like to find some low carb recipes. I mean you eat potatoes or rice or pasta with everything, and even if it is brown rice and the pasta is whole grain, it is still carbs. So what do you do for substitution?

I can not tell you the last time I had any of those. I use cooked caulifloweb and mash them with cream cheese and garlic and butter, tastes SOSOOOO much better than mashed potoates. I also use cauliflower as a sub in stews, potato salad and so on. WE eat lasagana and instead of pasta for layers, we try different veggies. May fav os baby spinach.

I have been making my own low carb snacks for years. But luckily my husband eats the same way so we do not keep any of that junk in the house. You would be surpised how easy it is to make things that taste even better than junk food. And besides after awhile your tatstebuds change and anything too sweet makes you gag. I accidentally drank a regular soda and thought I was going to throw up.maybe I should have.

It's all about choices. I choice to not eat those cookies, not even one because the flour is definitly a bad carb. I am watching my carb intake and it has been very successful for me. I have now lost 30 pounds in 4 months and I feel great. Another 10 pounds to go. So all I am saying is that it is for you to choice what you want to eat or not eat, as in it is all in choices and depends how badly you want to lose weight. Good luck, my friend.

I have tried to find a way to make the cookies with whole wheat flour. I can substitute, but unless I am making brownies, or something dark, then my husband notices. So I usually do not bake them. and besides unless it is around Christmas or Easter or unless it is for a shower or some special occasion, there is no need for me to make cookies anyway.

I have to agree with you about the whole wheat flour. It just isn't the as good as white flour, especially in baking.

Try Netrition.com. They have a low carb flour that bakes very nicely. I buy it in 5 pound bags. The shipping cost is ony $4.95 no matter what amount you order. I buy most of my low carb item there. And every so often things go on sale.

Well, a lot of the time, it is a matter of control. It is up to you to either not make these so then you know you will not eat these, or be able to pace yourself to not eat them so fast. Yes, on one hand they did have Oatmeal, but they also had sugar which is not good for many reasons. But I do agree that is is hard to keep from homemade cookies. So for us, we try not to make them that often.

We bake cookies, cakes, and bars, and we do bake potatoes, but I do not bake potatoes that often. I do make a lot of casseroles and eat salads and veggies, but once in a while I want to make some cookies or cakes. And that is when the trouble starts. I have to find a way to not have that many when I do cook them. I think I need to get out of the house more often.

The problem is with sugar once you put it in your mouth, your body wants more. It is a real addiction. I know I went thru withdrawal when I first went low carb. So again try finding things to eat that will satisfy your hunger, sugar does not.

I tried Weight Watchers and I got very hungry. All I could think of is food. What I need is something that fulls me up so I feel I cannot eat another bite. I find if I drink lots of water and take walks and get away from the pantry or the fridge, I tend to put more weight off.

I got some protein bars, and I had one at breakfast, and was I ever full. I mean I did not feel hungry in the morning as I usually do, but they are expensive for everyday and I just got a week's supply. So I guess I have to wait until the next sale. I have to wait until the 19th or so. And I have to get more blueberries, running out of them as well. And there is not enough on my blueberry bushes.

Its true weight watchers or any other diet you try does not work for everyone..I have tried a lot of them and it just happens that weight watchers did work for me,where others did not..I really think a diet has to be the kind that works for you as an indiviual...If what you are doing like walking & drinking lots of water works good for you just keep doing that..We all mess up from time to time, but when i do ,i just jump right back into my diet the next day..

I forgive myself for binging every now and then, as long as it doesn't become a habit; usually, when I overeat, it's because of a friendly cannabis encounter. Otherwise, I eat two healthy meals a day, drink lots of water and green tea, lift weights every other day, and play tennis once a week. As long as you're countering the occasional binge with exercise and healthy diet otherwise, I don't see much harm in indulging every now and then.

I eat three meals a day, weight lift three times a week, walk every day, drink water, green tea, and coffee, but once in a while I do get the desire to eat something dangerous like cookies. And when I do, I cannot eat just one. Also when I am depressed, I eat more of the bad stuff.

I had the same problem my friend.... Its always when they are home-made then you think that they dont cost you as much because you already have the ingredients in your cupboard. It happens in my house too. Up until 2 weeks ago I was a diet controlled diabetic... now I am a diabetic, and on diabetic pills but they dont seem to make a difference even though I am being very carefull. My only option to stop temptation is that I dont bake cookies or cakes anymore!!! So I am back to your saying of 'can I afford to buy them'......And these days my answer is NO, lol.

I cannot afford to buy them and I will bake once a month, but I think the best thing for me is to think of the money we can save by not baking them. After all, we would not have to buy that much white flour or sugar. Well I do not cook with that, I use whole wheat flour and brown sugar. And I can eat the rolled oats anyway as porridge, or mix it with yogurt and I do not need the salt.

I never got pregnant for more than a month after I got married and I figured that all the extra weight did not disappear and when I moved to Saskatoon and then to Winnipeg, there were no hills to climb unless I went to a park. And the food was not as healthy, not as many fruits, salads and veggies so I gained weight. Now I do a lot of walking, but in the winter, I cannot do as much, so that is my danger season because I have to leave the house if there are cookies around. Now that we go to the Mall about four times a week and walk around it is not a problem, but my husband had a stroke and he cannot walk that fast anymore.

You will have to exercise to shed off the extra calories. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy, so when you exercise, these are converted to calories and will not be stored as excess glycogen. Eat more of vegetables and fruits. These contain anti=toxins which are good for the body.

I just walk fast and I can run for one and a half minutes at a time, but I have to walk three or more minutes to get my breath back. so I really cannot do any heavy exercise. The trouble is the heavy exercise is what makes you lose weight. So I am stuck.

Don't feel bad. We sometimes succumb to temptations. I'd say you should set aside a time for a few 'naughty' snacks every week so you'll be less inclined to binge out and feel so guilty afterwards.

If you know you have a weakness for something it's best to not have it around (and not make it). If they're not in the house, you won't be tempted. We're the same way... I make "healthier" cookies but we devour them immediately so I don't make them often. It sounds like you're doing pretty well though...it's actually good for your metabolism to have one "off" day a week where you have a treat but then of course you should balance it with lighter, healthier eating the rest of the day.

I usually make oatmeal cookies, but I love shortbread cookies better, but I think of them as Christmas cookies, so I do not make them that much, but I grew up on oatcakes so when I see them, I tend to over indulge. I think if I made them and put them in the freezer, and just have one on that treat day, it would work.

What do I do. I either show some self control or accept the facts that if I do not I will certainly not lose weight. Best thing is not to have them easily available. If you know you are weak then do not bake anymore.

I guess that is what I will have to do. I also find if I am not in the house, I am not near temptation on that day when I want them (usually every two weeks) but then I cannot do myLotting either.

I find it hard to resist at all. Last night I ate a whole tub of Dibs icecream and felt guitly that I did but they tasted nice LOL It's hard to resist especially if others in the family crave for it too. We love our chocolate chip and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies in our home and I bake them at least once a week or fortnight.
The only way to avoid them is not bake them at all and go for something like fruit or another healthy snack.

I think what I should do is mark the calender and say that that is the baking day and put most of it downstairs in the freezer. It only happens every two or three weeks. And I really should use butter instead as it is more expensive, and if it costs a bit more, I will not bake that often. Oh and cheaper fruit and a larger fruit garden would help as well.

I do not get on the scales that much. Too depressing. I find if I am away from the food it helps and I find that I eat more when I get depressed, so the thing for me is to avoid getting the blues and to be busy.

Try baking with nut flours, use stevia or splenda instead of sugar then if you binge, it will not be so bad. You see eating sugar and carbs sends your body into an insulin frenzy and it makes you want even more.
I just finished baking 3 cheesecakes. They were do good I am going to get a second piece, and I CAN!
The reason I made so many is I had tons of ricotta left over and wanted to use it before it went bad.

I should try nut flours, but I am saving for a new DVd and so I have not gone to the bulk store that often this month. My husband thinks if he does not eat it, do not buy it. I do love ricotta cheese, but have only had it when in a restaurant or company and I would not mind getting some myself. How long does it last, once you buy it?
