my teacher in computer science told us that C is better than JAVA. JAVA is way too far from C and it's not a good programming language to be teach in school.
what do you think?is C really better?

C/C++ is the king of programming language. Java is also good, but I would suggest to learn C/C++ programming. If you have a good knowledge if C/C++ programming, then you can switch to any other language easily. You can do anything with C/C++ which is not always possible with Java.

You have to define better. Which will change based on the task, the target environment and workforce.
C might well be the bees knees, but if you dev team are Java developers, working towards a GUI application that will need to work on Windows, Solaris and MacOS X then it will not help your project.
Java might well be the dogs beep, but if you are working on a Nintendo DS game it is a problem.
Honestly a teacher that said X is better than Y has been cooped up in academia too long and no longer has the grounding in the real world to really tell you about such things.

I agree with you because none can tell which language is better in general. Programming languages must be compared at doing specific tasks.

i would go for JAVA becouse i see it the most times in action and its working really well, but i hear a lot about C and C+, and also a C++, but never see anything intresting about how it is performing ... i know that most 3d games, like those from EA, are created in C but i just doesnt know how or why becouse to me and simple basic is great and not to talk about the simpliest php who i really easy to understand but can do a lot of things

i think C is better since you don't have to memorize all those functions and its the only language that can reach assembly language.. but i like to learn JAVA too...

Well since your just in school your teacher has told you C is better than JAVA as java is much more advanced than C. But frankly speaking C is nothing compared to JAVA.
JAVA has millions of more features than JAVA and it can be used to design just anything. Name it and you can do it using JAVA. At the moment I'm currently studying JAVA as now days almost most IT companies have projects in JAVA.
