Do you save money by limiting on what you eat daily? I saw one of the staffs at my workplace, she always eat instant noodle in cup during lunch time. I ever asked her the reason. She told me that she wanted to save money on food. She just eat a noodle in cup everyday. Would you do so? Would you control yourself from eating good food for the sake of saving money? For me, I tried for a few times but never succeeded. I cannot resist myself from eating my favorite food. It's really hard to save money on what we eat. How about you? Can you do so? Please share your opinions here, thanks.

Honestly, I won't sacrifice my health for the sake of money. Let me briefly explain. The cheapest foods out there (hot dogs, fast food, ramen noodles) are all quite unhealthy and fattening. I'd rather pay more to get something healthy and nutritious to eat; to me, health is more important than money. Luckily, though, I don't spend much on groceries. All I need in my fridge/freezer is fruits, veggies, whole wheat pita bread, and fish. It doesn't come out to much in the end, money-wise. Also, I get free meals at work (I work at a restaurant)! Quite convenient.

I agree with you. saving money by way of eating unhealthy and cheap food is not good. In this case, the more we spend money when we get sick. There are some ways of saving money for food. We can buy Fresh vegetables and fruits in flea markets that are cheap and in affordable prices. Make a menu for the week and take food with you to work. That is what I am doing. I brought my lunch I am not buying in fast food or in restaurant. In this way I would be able to save money for food.

As with everyone in this discussion, the rising price of gas has also affected the grocery stores and now their prices are rising too. My husband used to get lunch in the cafeteria where he works, but has now started packing a lunch everyday, we figure by doing that, he is saving at least $20/week. That really adds up. I used to work full time managing a restaurant, so ate my lunch there. Now I am working full time from home, but then again, I am saving tons of $$ on gas I am not using to drive to a job. I make sure I eat a good breakfast, usually oatmeal because it is cheap. Maybe a sandwich for lunch or sometimes I just have more of a snack to get me by til dinner. We have changed the way we grocery shop too. I used to stop at the store on the way home from work almost every day. Now we make a list, a menu and use more coupons. I actually only shop in the produce section, the meat dept, the dairy and the freezer. I skip most of the aisles in the middle(unless I need flour, sugar, spices) and have not missed anything. We have a membership to Sam's Club and there we get laundry soap, dishwasher soap, fabric softener, and toilet paper. Usually we get enough for 6 months at a time. We had really been working hard at this for the last 6 months, it soon becomes habit and you don't really think about it any more. I do not feel deprived in the least and we have BOTH lost weight. To spend time together (instead of eating out) we go on walks and bike rides, I think our marriage has never been better!

When it comes to food I don't save. I eat what i wanted to eat. I can't work properly if my foods is limited or I am not full. I am very productive if my meals are complete.

Yes, I agree too! Good food equals to good mood which equals to higher productive. The boss at our workplace should consider giving incentives to his or her workers who perform well, by treating them to buffet after work! Haha!

Yes, I am trying to save money buy eating less. I eat sandwiches during breakfast and lunch and just have a complete meal in the evening. I am doing this since I have immigrated to a new country and I would like to save my money until I get a permanent job.

My husband and I have been on quite a tight budget these days especially with the economy slump. I am sure that a lot of families are just getting by and have to save as much money as they can by eating less then the favorite meals they would like to. We have forgone many a great sit down meal and going out to dine in favorite restaurants because we need the money to live in the house and pay other bills. It is not always easy. It would be nice to have a treat from time to time but we need to get back on our feet and save some money so we can enjoy better meals. I personally don't think that there is anything wrong with skimping a little and scraping. As long as you and your family are eating then that is a good thing. You will appreciate the day when you can make an extra special meal that cost a little more money. It can be a nice feeling. I understand that you find it hard to resist from eating the foods you desire. I don't blame you. It is really tempting to spend money on something you really want.

Lately I've been doing the same thing. I really like the frozen pizzas from the 99 cents store. They come in a couple of varieties so I buy a few and have them for lunch or dinner and haven't gotten bored of them yet. They also have the frozen pot pies for 99 cents too, so eat those as well. I don't like the noodles, and they don't fill me up anyway. I'm also stocking up on their canned vegetables and trying to come up with creative recipes using them to save on food spending. These days, every little bit helps.

I certainly try to. I haven't gotten down to cups of noodles which are sold in Trinidad very cheaply but I'm always looking around town for places that sell cheaper meals. I recently found such a place where you can get a lunch of sorts for less than 20 dollars which is quite cheap for Trinidad right now.

Well, that is also her way of saving money. But eating that kind of food everyday is not good for the health. We need fruits and vegetables to nourish our body. I usually bring my lunch to work. I buy groceries weekly and make a menu for the week so that I may able to keep up with my budget and would usually go to the open market because vegetables are cheaper in that area and fruits too. My way of saving money is to buy reasonable prices of goods in a flea or open market. Buy food that are healthful.

Well I am living off of $40 a week for groceries than theres the fact that my grandmother likes to take me out to eat like 4 days a week for lunch so that kinda helps alittle bit.

no, i everytime like to have good food n thats why we put efforts n workhard to earn money. after so much hardwork n dont eat good food whats the use of money. yes i can understand if u do this when u r in trouble , when u r in a great need of money, or u want to do dieting in order to reduce weight or so, but not simply just for the reason of saving money. money can be saved by using otherways like reducing ur expenditure n just spend where ever required, not having trips, saving by making some insurance, having fixed deposit, n so on. a person hardly eats something n making a limitation for that dont make sense. for me if i do this all money will just go in paying my bills. everytime i try to save n the expenditure increases, n now more ever the inflation rate is high n cant at all save any money.

I try to limit the amount I spend on food, but I've never been able to hold back for long. I will go cheap for lunch and eat noodles, or Hot Pockets, then I'll go out to dinner and order a steak. I just can't help it. Although we do keep our food costs down compared to others that I know, I still think I eat pretty well. And if you buy in bulk when possible you can eat like A king for pennies a day, okay not really pennies, but maybe dollars instead of tens of dollars a day.

In regards to your colleague's lunches, I definitely also try and save on lunch breaks by avoiding buying the stuff at our staff canteen and restaurants which are relatively over-priced.. we're a considerable distance from other shops so they do take people for a ride plus people earn quite well anyway, so maybe that's partially why. I try and carry a packed lunch from home as buying lunch everyday can be quite pricey, ok if you're single I guess, but if you've got to pay childcare for every hour you're away.. gotta save the pennies! I also save money on my food shopping as much as I can and with a range of products in supermarkets with prices to suit every pocket, this is relatively easy to do, also that is before the current rises in food prices too..

I never save on food. As much as possible I buy the healthiest and most nutritious food I can afford. Noodles? I think it is not the right way to save. Excuse me for the word but I think t's more of being lazy rather, because noodles need not much preparation. Veggies are also cheap especially the ones in season so if only your co-employee has the diligence to cook she can always cook veggies and still save. But it's another thing if she does not eat veggies like most people who fail to realize the wonderful health benefits of vegetables. In my home I always see to it that I am feeding my family with nutritious food. I don't need to spend so much, I just have to be practical and wise in choosing the food that will keep my family healthy.

Eating noodle everyday is not a good habit anyway. You can control your budget but not to the extent that you have stop or cut like that. We work to earn a living. We have to live with at least a balance diet. Not noodles everyday. Eat your favourite food with your hard earn money baby!!
