Reported in dailymail.co.uk. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1045815/Worlds-oldest-mother-70-pleased-male-heir-declares-daughter-burden.html
Omkari Panwar, and her husband Charan Singh Panwar, 77,from the state uttar pradesh in India.. underwent IVF to have a male child...reason.. they want to look after their small family holdings..
This couple has already two daughters in their thirties and five grand daughters. The reason they went treatment, IVF, is that they are so particular in getting a male child..
I cannot understand why people are still like this.. Will not their daughters look out there land and family holdings after this man?
What worries me, is the statement of the Mom.. "The girl child is a burden for her..
Share you opinions on this pal.
Cheers and happy mylotting to all.
Saivenkat.

That is nuts and crazy. I am sorry but the doctor that did that procedure should not be allowed to practice medicine anymore. Who egg was used? I don't think 70 year old women produce any more eggs? Who is going to raise these two children? I feel bad for these two children because they will not be able to know their parents.

This story makes me angry and ashamed (I am a British Indian). I don't understand how they were allowed to have IVF for such a stupid reason. It is about time that people understood that a daughter can do just as much as a son if not more. Grrrr I am so angry...

I think this is irresponsible on the part of a whole lot of people. The mother, the father, the community, and mostly the doctor who did the IVF. I'm so glad that my parents think my sister and I are "good enough" for them. I feel sorry for the girls in that family, being treated like something you scrape off your shoes. Unbelievable.

I remember this story from when she first had them, it was shocking to read then and is no less shocking reading it again. It is ridiculous that they were allowed to have these babies in their time of life. Dont get me wrong I love reading stories of some older women getting a baby after years of trying, when they are unable to have a child. But to read this, of two people in their 70s wanting a son to look after a piece of land? They have all those children to do that, they have no money, are elderly and now have two tiny mouths to feed. She hints of the daughter being a burden, what will become of her is my worry.

I cannot fix someone's culture by complaining about it, but I value my girl-child as much as any boy-child. I would like to see the world move forward and leave misogyny in the past.

There are so many people out there that are like that. Carry on the family name and such. Really puts a lot of women under pressure. It's all so anal.

Royalty!! my heart will never agree for that.. and what is the necessity for it at the age of 70..and the man is aged 77.. I can't even think of having a child, that too by IVF at this age... So crazy.. and people are still like that..

Hi saivenkaat, It is sad that many people still feel that way, but it is still a fact even in the twenty-first century. It is changing of course, especially in the west, but many cultures still feel that men are superior to women. For the mom to say that the child is a burden to her is so unfair, how can a mother ever say such a thing about her own child? Blessings.

I'm sure there are plenty of American couples who would be more than happy to adopt the girl child that she feels is a burden. Maybe she should have thought of that before she undertook IVF to have more children - since it is well known that it often results in multiples.
I also think that all of their daughters would be quite insulted that their parents don't feel that they are good enough and that they needed to undertake such extreme measures at their age to have more children. At their age, the chances of them living long enough to raise these children is slim and undoubtedly, the task will fall to their older sisters.

I feel so badly for the baby girl. She will be looked at as a burden. And because of all the money they spent on the IVF, there will surely be no money for her to get married later in life. She'll be destined to sad life. Poor, poor thing. It's so sad that females are still not good enough to inherit.... I'm also amazed that the Dr. who performed the IVF would do so! It definatley doesn't seem safe for a 70 year old to be carrying children, not to mention the financial state it put their family in. So sad all around.

Really, still giving birth at 70 years old? Fantastic.
But why did she say that girl child is a burden? That is
a cruel thing to say,to think that she is a girl too.
What is it about their fortune that it requires a man to
managed. I just can't understand them at all. This news
is absolutely crazy.

that is really bad to consider a girl as bad thing for the family. but i really don't understand this IVG. is this kind of artificial insemination or something. i don't know how she was able to give birth in that old age.

I wonder how this parents so obsessed to have a baby boy when they already have a child which is a girl and what matters in all of this is it will depend on them on how they trained the child to take over because at this time what a Man can do the woman also can do many things and sometimes it is better........

well this is a very weird thing which i have come to know from you. i think in the northern india especially there is a wrong notion out there that only male children brong name n fame to the family. they think gal child as a burden and some times even kill them when they are born.

WOW, unbelievable. By the time that kid is old enough to take over there place what will he be left with? A broken down shack where he has to pay out his butt for him to exist. And that poor little girl will probably not get proper love and attention. It's awful how any docter would perform such a procedure on someone so old that will probably not be around much longer. Those babies will never get the right care and attention. I feel so bad for them.

I know I am a bit off subject with this, but I once knew a girl who had 6 abortions and 2 forced miscarriages throughout her child-bearing years. She was trying to only have sons, she wanted 2 but she kept getting pregnant with girls. She went through dozens of potential "daddy's", and more than 10 clinics and pregnancy centers.
Abusing the privilege of parenting is wrong, and people like this will answer for their behavior. Believe that.
The people in this story have just put bigger burdens on their daughters, then turned around and said that the daughters would be 'honored' to raise the babies!! Right! I would feel totally put-out. How self-righteous could they be?? What is the boy going to inherit anyway? A piece of heavily mortgaged property? Yay!! Give those parents a Klondike bar!!

If that is the pic of the 70 year lady she looks good for her age.Am I to understand she had a boy and a girl?I will not judge this lady as she was raised this way by her parents and her parents were raised like that and so on.
I believe that this again new mom would do everything she can to raise her baby girl as she did with the other two.
And regarding if their two daughters could or not have taken care of the land is based on their law.
I understand once upon a time a woman in the USA could not own land.

That's wild, 70 years old and twins! Too bad the girl is seen as a burden though, I guess that's what a lot of families feel in India, but I know that some are okay with having girls. That would be so hard on a 70 year old's body, as it is already hard enough on woman who are in their prime years! It's a shame that they had twins just to assure that there would be a boy in the line, though they spent everything they had basically to get a boy, so they will barely give anything to him when he is a man, plus they probably won't know their parents when they are grown because they are so old now and will probably die before they want to start families.

well, i think that its not a good idea to have kids in your 70 because you may not live long enough to raise the child and someone else may have to take on the responsibility and the child will have to grow up without his or her biological parents i dont think thats right, and on top of that these parents are saying the girl is a burden omg as a female i cant help but feel a little insulted by that, but people have the right to do what they want, im just stating my opinion and i just think having kids at that age isnt fair to the children.

This truly is disappointing, we still live in a world where things like this and honor killings are still common place in some parts of the world. I desperately await the peace-maker Christ.
